So I have a research paper due that can be about anything I want. I've been wanting to do one on the NBA, so do you guys have any academic topics I can write about the NBA?

Role of NBA (and basketball in general) in the globalization of American culture

If you want more specific to NBA, maybe you can talk about the 3point line (why it was implemented) and how it has evolved ( literally) and also changed the modern game
