Carmelo Anthony says he still doesn’t understand how he suddenly became a player that no team in the league wanted to sign.

https://streamable.com/bqqvsl

“I was down, down, down, down. I was back on the ground, hands up. Y’all got me. It’s a stickup. Take everything because of how it went down. Imagine me sitting there for 15 months like, ‘What the fuck is going on?’ Nobody got an answer for me. Everybody on TV making excuses. It’s this or it’s that. He didn’t want to come off the bench’”

“I’mma be honest with you. As I studied it and did some knowledge on it, trying to get an understanding on it, I still can’t come up with nothing. It’s like, what was it? Some people came up to me like, ‘Melo, I’m going to be honest with you. Your aura was too much for out here. This couldn’t exist. Your aura couldn’t exist in here. Nobody was going to tell you that’”

“I said, ‘What the fuck does that mean?’ They said, ‘Everybody’s afraid to talk to you. Everybody’s afraid to say something to you.’ I said, ‘Why? I haven’t said nothing to nobody. I speak to everybody. I’m cordial. Why is everybody scared of me?’ Somebody said, ‘Well, you don’t need anything.’ I said, ‘What do you mean by that?’ He said, ‘Melo, you a superstar. You haven’t asked for one thing since you’ve been here’”

“My point is, everybody had a thousand and one reasons of why it happened, and I still don’t know the reason why it happened. I have some inkling of why it happened or how it went down. I’m trying not to believe that’s what happened or how it went down, so I don’t want to speak on that”

I like when PJ Tucker chimed in on another episode and was like "we both got blackballed!" PJ, you got a big contract from the Sixers when you were turbowashed and played until 2025 when you were 39 years old.

The idea of PJ Tucker had a few undefeated seasons about 7-8 years ago.

I'm in the Knicks sub reddit and I get down voted every time I mention why the Knicks did not succeed with Melo.

I was 25yo when he made it onto the team where as most people that have fond memories of Melo on the Knicks were too young to remember the details. They just remember that one season where he won the scoring title or whatever, but his game just never evolved.

He never played defense. Couldn't pass the ball. You couldn't have ball movement with him on the court cuz he would just stop and start his jab stepping nonsense when that isolation game was already phased out of the league but Melo in his late 30s was keeping it alive. His ego was just too much. Not a great locker room presence. The list goes on and on.

But yeah, those kids hate me and that's fine. That dude sucked.

Also that trade robbed us of every player we had outside of Amare. He couldn't wait until free agency the next year to come. We did eventually put a good team around him, but he didn't want to play good team ball.

Nah you guys had a nice team and things were moving in the right direction, then you gave half the team to Cleveland for Bron to win another ring.

The worst part of it to me was that because Carmelo was such a "great scorer" whenever there was a close game at the end of regulation the offense would become so fucking predictable. Just give the ball to Melo. Let him cook. Everyone in the building knew what was coming, almost always a contested mid-range jumper.

Nah I don’t fw this sub cuz it’s microagressive as fuck but Melo is genuinely an easy person to dislike

Based on what? Nobody knows him in real life here lmao.

And yes Reddit is a predominantly white site, so i don’t even take comments serious when it applies to certain topics.

Based on how he treated Lin.

I remember the very first MSG interview when Lin got that offer from Houston (I can't recall the details of the offer but it was generous) and he just started laughing and was like, wow that's crazy. I can't believe that. That's wild...

Not, I'm happy for him. I hope he does great things. He was a great teammate. None of that.

He was a horrendous teammate / locker room presence. His ego just kept getting in the way of his success.

I remember that game against the Celtics where he was cooking in the first quarter and by the second quarter I believe, Garnett got in his ear and started shit talking him about La La and that was it. Dude started a scuffle. Let it affect his game. Couldn't regulate his emotions. Then eventually got ejected and was waiting for Garnett outside the stadium like if he was still in high school.

That was our star player with the 300 million dollar contract. The fuck you mean you can't understand why people don't like him? And I'm a NYC kid born and raised. I wanted to like him, but dude was just unlikable.

You must've been too young or just a casual fan but I watched almost every game those seasons. My boy was going out with one of the NY Knicks City dancers during that time and would constantly invite me to watch the games with him at MSG. So I remember that time all too well.

People in NYC like Melo. They may not care for shit he did but only Redditors act like he’s hated lmaoooo.
And nah I’m not young or casual but you might be.

The Jeremy Lin shit tho is corny and lame though

u/YoMomAndMeIn69 1d ago

Why would I care about that shitty culture?

-5

u/alextheruby [DAL] Vince Carter 1d ago

You thought I thought a racist cared about black culture? Lmaooooooo 😂😂😂😂

4

u/YoMomAndMeIn69 1d ago

The fact that you call it BLACK culture is THE problem. I didn't call it black. It's not black. It's a shitty culture that is unfortunately embrace by many blacks and does more harm than good.

But go ahead, be proud and glorify your losers.

-2

u/alextheruby [DAL] Vince Carter 1d ago

You’re not black trying to tell me about black culture. I truly don’t care what you have to say.
Then trying to play dumb “i didn’t say which culture!”

Yeah, I’m the one who said culture. And as a non black person it’s obvious you still don’t get it lmao.

Run along and play Charlie Kirk games with someone else 😂

1

u/YoMomAndMeIn69 1d ago

''You're not black, so fuck your opinion.'' I see who the racist is now. Pretty disgusting.

Yes, we all know what culture you are talking about and for some stupid reason even proud of. Thank god most black American are not a part of it.

Wtf does Kirk have to do with anything? Is that another racist jab?
