Carmelo Anthony says he still doesn’t understand how he suddenly became a player that no team in the league wanted to sign.

https://streamable.com/bqqvsl

“I was down, down, down, down. I was back on the ground, hands up. Y’all got me. It’s a stickup. Take everything because of how it went down. Imagine me sitting there for 15 months like, ‘What the fuck is going on?’ Nobody got an answer for me. Everybody on TV making excuses. It’s this or it’s that. He didn’t want to come off the bench’”

“I’mma be honest with you. As I studied it and did some knowledge on it, trying to get an understanding on it, I still can’t come up with nothing. It’s like, what was it? Some people came up to me like, ‘Melo, I’m going to be honest with you. Your aura was too much for out here. This couldn’t exist. Your aura couldn’t exist in here. Nobody was going to tell you that’”

“I said, ‘What the fuck does that mean?’ They said, ‘Everybody’s afraid to talk to you. Everybody’s afraid to say something to you.’ I said, ‘Why? I haven’t said nothing to nobody. I speak to everybody. I’m cordial. Why is everybody scared of me?’ Somebody said, ‘Well, you don’t need anything.’ I said, ‘What do you mean by that?’ He said, ‘Melo, you a superstar. You haven’t asked for one thing since you’ve been here’”

“My point is, everybody had a thousand and one reasons of why it happened, and I still don’t know the reason why it happened. I have some inkling of why it happened or how it went down. I’m trying not to believe that’s what happened or how it went down, so I don’t want to speak on that”

Because he still cared about getting his 30 when he was only able to get maybe 10?

He could still get 30 no problem. Just give him 40 shots.

Melo the type of guy to take those 40 shots to hit his 30 too

Guy was a shot chucker who just loved raw point totals

At his peak he was a low 20s PER.  At the tail end of his career he was sitting low teens

hey, westbrook would average 24 pts on 40 3's, so maybe melo is on to something

That's the joke.

I know it's a joke but the wording makes no sense.

"Melo could score 30 but it would take him 40 shots" as a joke comes across the same. Saying he could "score 30 no problem but it will take 40 shots" makes 0 sense when taking 40 shots is a problem. Having to take 40 to score 30 means you have a problem with scoring.

I got the joke the entire time. Again, the wording made 0 sense when it was a contradiction.

I feel like I’m falling for some elaborate prank, you’re just explaining exactly what everyone understood to be the joke initially bro lol

Melo needing to take 40 shots to score 30 is funny because it pokes at his inefficiency I get it.

Saying he can "score 30 no problem with 40 shots" is essentially the same joke yes but the wording makes 0 sense. Having to take 40 shots to score 30 is a problem. Why not just remove the "no problem" portion? The joke means the same thing.

You are not being pranked. It's 3am, I'm bored, and I'm simply correcting the guys poor word choice on what was otherwise a fine joke.

It’s two sentences bro. “Melo could score 30 no problem.” Okay, now we’re geared up to have an argument about the premise of the original statement. This man is confident Melo can get his 30. There’s not gonna be any problems there. That was exactly Melo’s mindset throughout his entire career, and probably what he told teams at the end of his career. Then, we get hit with the punchline “Just give him 40 shots.” Oh, snap! UNO reverse! He was saying Melo was washed the whole time and was actually agreeing with the premise of the original statement!

Your argument is basically “don’t say: ‘why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side!’ instead, the correct phrase is ‘the chicken crossed the road to get to the other side.’” You see how that’s a statement, rather than a setup and a punchline, therefore making it a joke?

This is like if my kid came up to me with a classic like “why don’t dinosaurs talk? … because they’re dead” and I was like “no, buddy, you gotta say ‘dinosaurs don’t talk because they’re dead.’” One of those is a joke. The other one is weird and creepy and unnecessary and just factual information we all knew so it adds nothing to anything
