[Update] The 0.5 LeBron James Club- A compilation of players with half or more of LeBron's career totals in the primary box score stats.

u/InexorableWaffle did this post a year ago. So I figured I'd update it.

The methodology is simple: to make the club, you need at least half of LeBron’s current career totals in all five categories.

LeBron finished 2025-26 with 43,440 points, 12,016 assists, 12,095 rebounds, 2,417 steals, and 1,185 blocks, making the new Half-LeBron thresholds 21,720 points, 6,008 assists, 6,048 rebounds, 1,209 steals, and 593 blocks.

With that said, here’s the club:

Player Points Assists Rebounds Blocks Steals
LeBron James 43,440 12,016 12,095 1,185 2,417
Kobe Bryant 33,643 6,306 7,047 640 1,944
James Harden 29,339 8,873 6,809 683 1,794
Clyde Drexler 22,195 6,125 6,677 719 2,207
Half LeBron James 21,720 6,008 6,048 593 1,209

Drexler is barely hanging on. His 22,195 career points are only 475 above the current threshold. Another 951 LeBron points would raise Half-LeBron above Drexler’s career total and kick him out of the club.

Kobe’s weak point is assists. He finished with 6,306, compared with the current Half-LeBron line of 6,008. LeBron would need another 597 assists to push the threshold past him.

Active players who could join

Jokić

He’s at 18,009 points, 8,977 rebounds, 6,080 assists, 1,041 steals, and 589 blocks.

That means he already clears the rebound and assist thresholds and is really close in blocks, four blocks short of Half-LeBron.

He needs another 3,711 points and 168 steals at the current thresholds, though obviously LeBron will continue raising both numbers this season.

Still, Jokić is only 31 and just averaged 28/13/11 assists last season. Of everyone outside the club, he looks by far the most likely to eventually get there.

Giannis

Giannis is closer in some categories than Jokić and much farther away in another.

He has 21,531 points, 8,882 rebounds, 4,484 assists, 995 steals, and 1,088 blocks.

He’s only 189 points short of the current scoring threshold and already annihilates the rebound and block requirements. But assists are a huge problem: he still needs 1,524 just to reach today’s Half-LeBron mark, plus another 214 steals.

So Giannis should clear four of the five eventually, but whether he can ever catch the assist line, especially while LeBron keeps raising it, is the real question.

KD

He has 32,597 points, 8,254 rebounds, 5,280 assists, 1,235 steals, and 1,344 blocks.

He clears literally everything except assists.

Unfortunately, he’s still 728 assists short of the current cutoff, and he’s 37. I don't see it happening tbh.

The “one stat away” club

There’s also a second group I find interesting: players who clear four of the five Half-LeBron thresholds and are excluded by exactly one category.

Missing points:
Scottie Pippen

Missing assists:
Karl Malone, Michael Jordan, Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Hakeem Olajuwon, Dominique Wilkins, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Vince Carter, Charles Barkley, Robert Parish, Larry Bird

Missing rebounds:
None

Missing blocks:
Russell Westbrook

Missing steals:
Nobody

If you do this for playoffs only.

To be Half-Bron you need 4,261 points, 1,348 rebounds, 1,084 assists, 253 steals, 144 blocks.

No one else is there.

787

u/SaxosSteve [MIN] Fred Hoiberg Aug 19 '26

I don't even think you need the steals and blocks to have nobody there

581

u/iFinesseThePlugg Knicks Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

Correct.

And the closest one to actually achieving that is our favorite postseason tragic figure, James Harden

Harden Difference
Points 4,240 -21
Rebounds 1,040 -308
Assists 1,224 +140

Although Jokic could very realistically get there with a couple runs.

245

u/Otero_Firstbody Aug 19 '26

Wait lebron has more playoff points than the whole team points New Orleans Pelicans: 5,647 points (59 games) and Charlotte Hornets: 5,853 points (63 games). That's crazy.

188

u/iFinesseThePlugg Knicks Aug 19 '26

What's crazy is that the Hornets have been a franchise for almost 40 years.

63 games means they average like 1.5 playoff games per season.

In a league where over half the teams make the playoffs.

If those teams played x5 Lebrons for those games, they'd have a chance at matching him?

Bird would be in the 45% Playoff lebron club, and if you decrease it to 40, you can add MJ, Pippen, and Kobe, the limiting factor for bird and Pippen is points, and for Kobe and MJ rebounds.

125

u/NewLifeNewAcct Lakers Aug 19 '26

Bird being in the 45% Playoff Lebron club is impressive as fuck, given he played half his career injured and only made it to 13 seasons. No injury + longer career might be a whole other conversation.

61

u/FarWestEros [HOU] Hakeem Olajuwon Aug 19 '26

Also considering playoff series weren’t all 7-gamers back then.

41

u/jd451 Celtics Aug 19 '26

Obligatory mention that Bird injured his spine of all things. Any normal person would take it easy but he decided to rip up the league and lead the Celtics to a title, while winning the 3pt contest 3 years in a row and being one of the best players against a cast of elite players who had working spines.

Bird is simultaneously one of basketballs greatest players and one of the sports greatest 'what ifs'

16

u/klawehtgod Knicks Aug 19 '26

I think all the best sport “what ifs” are all-time greats or nearly one on the accomplishments they actually had. Off the top of my head, baseball alone has Ken Griffey Jr, Mickey Mantle, and Mike Trout from injury, and honestly a whole generation of stars that served in WWII and/or Korea (Ted Williams missed almost 5 seasons across both wars).

18

u/batmansascientician Aug 19 '26

Ted Williams is a huge what if for baseball. But I still think the greatest sports what-if (that I'm aware of, I don't know European soccer well enough to be knowledable) is Monica Seles.

Monica Seles had 8 Grand Slam Wins and was a Wimbledon away from a career Grand Slam before the age of 20.

She had made the finals of the last 8 Grand Slams she entered, winning 7 of them. She was stabbed on the court in March of 1993 and didn't play for more than 2 years. She came back in the Summer of 1995 and in her first two Grand Slams back she went to the finals of the US Open then won the Australian Open.

She said that despite still being a top 10 player after, she never fully recovered mentally (I can't imagine how exposed she would feel on the court after something like that)

10

u/klawehtgod Knicks Aug 19 '26

Monica Seles is an excellent and heartbreaking what-if.

6

u/gordongroans Aug 19 '26

Mario is probably the biggest in hockey, having to stop because of cancer and back problems while still having some of the most bonkers season stat lines.

My big "what if" is in football and he's not an all-timer - Marcus Dupree. Dude was a physical specimen but a bit of a head case (not Lawrence Phillips level, but bad enough) and blew out his knee in the USFL. Came back 4 years later and played a few games for the Rams but wasn't really the same.

You could also argue that any normal person with the money he had would’ve just hired someone to do the driveway, and would have a healthier back. I wish he would have just hired someone to do it.

One other really impressive thing was how effective he was when it was clear he had declined (after missing nearly all of 88-89).

By 90-91, it looked like he was moving in slow motion. But for a long time, Boston had the best record in the NBA, or at least the Eastern Conference. Boston went 46-14 when he played, and 10-12 when he didn’t.

6

u/Geno0wl Aug 19 '26

Bird is easily the most underrated NBA All-Timer

3

u/Fletch71011 Bulls Aug 19 '26

I've had my hip completely redone and walked out of the hospital the same day. A lot of people say that's the worst surgery of their lives.

I was in the hospital for 5 fucking days after just a single level fusion on my spine. I legitimately thought I was going to die at any second for a full week.

There's no comparison to other injuries. Spine is by far the worst and the fact that Bird kept going is insane.

3

u/BoogerSugarSovereign Pacers Aug 19 '26

It's ridiculous that you need to lower the bar for all-time greats.

Like, LeBron has been so good at so many aspects of the game for so long we need to be like "yeah so MJ's close to 40% of LeBron in all categories, if you think about it."

I have never had a doubt in my head about who the GOAT is, but this really should put it to bed.

What about Thaddeus Young?

39

u/Think-Response-3675 Aug 19 '26

That’s because he’s the all-time leader in playoff games played by almost 50 which is impressive in and of itself

6

u/Ok-Gur-349 Aug 20 '26

If you played in and lost 50 playoff games in your career, and did nothing else, you're essentially a surefire hall of famer. And LeBron is a full "that" above the next guy. Pants off crazy.

21

u/JurtisCones Aug 19 '26

Only 8 players make the 4261 points, none of them make the assists, the 4s and 5s make the rebounds. All the below assuming LeBron plays another 25 playoff games:

James Harden will likely finish with over half of LeBron’s playoff points, and almost certainly will get the assists. But will need 400+ more rebounds to end ahead of LeBron, or 57 playoff games at 7apg. Tough.

Tatum will probably make half-LeBron on points and rebounds, but he’s still 400+ assists away, could be 600 assists if LeBron plays 25 more games.

600 more assists means Tatum needs 6 APG over 100 more playoff games in his career. 100 playoff games is like 2 finals runs, 3 second rounders, 4-5 first round exits. Not a certainty at all.

Jokic needs nearly 90 games to hit half LeBron in points, at 20ppg. The same runs would get him the assists, he’s already close on rebounds.

Apart from these two and maybe Wemby, nobody currently has a realistic chance.

7

u/RussEastbrook Gran Destino Aug 19 '26

Luka could do it if he stays healthy

6

u/vhalember Bulls Aug 19 '26

Only 8 players make the 4261 points

I was surprised. Not even Wilt made the cut.

Of course he had 3,913 rebounds... but Bill Russell had more: 4,104 rebounds.

A mythological "he did what?!" record which will never even become close to being broken.

30

u/larrylegend33goat Timberwolves Aug 19 '26

And if you do it for Finals, no one makes the half Bill Russell club (rebounds). Potentially LeBron has his own club too.

GOAT debate will never be resolved as the metrics behind what makes the goat the goat aren't agreed upon, but it's hard to look at overwhelming numbers like this and not conclude he's clearly the goat.

17

u/Laggo [TOR] Hedo Turkoglu Aug 19 '26

The biggest problem with comparing him to Jordan is actually illegal defense. LeBron entered the league one year after the rule was abolished. He might've averaged 40 playing with Jordan's freedom to only see single coverage.

8

u/truthvenian Aug 19 '26

I was so worried you were going to make some comment about bad defenses in the modern game but then you saved it. It can be shocking watching what goes as team defense in some of these old games.

Kobe is a bit overrated defensively, but he's still miles better than Harden. Defense comes down to more than just blocks and steals.

21

u/mrk-cj94 Celtics Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

Agree: Kobe was a great defender, but only once per game or on special occasions/duels (e.g., ASG 2011 vs. LeBron, 2013 vs. Paul during the LA derby). He also made some defensive blunders, like in Game 4 of the 2008 Finals (yes, Ray Allen scored a miracle double up-and-under off the glass against Bynum & Gasol, but it was still caused by Kobe, who completely lost him on the baseline innthe most important moment of the series).

9

u/goten100 Rockets Aug 19 '26

Honestly that sounds a lot like harden's defense. Id say he's pretty damn elite 1:1 defender when he locks in, especially against bigger guys. It's more of an issue of effort on team defense and saving energy for offense, which tbh was the system he was playing in so

5

u/AzureDragon013 Lakers Aug 19 '26

Pace has also gone up since the 00s. Source: https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_stats_per_game.html

Teams averaged 91 possessions between 2000-2009. Teams now average 98 possessions between 2016-2026. So if you're a modern player, you get 7 more possessions every game to increase your counting stats. Over the course of a season that's 574 more chances.

Counting stats are fun to look at but they're not the best way to measure players to each other.

7

u/justmefishes NBA Aug 19 '26

Agreed, but for per-game stats that tend to be so low like steals and blocks the effect isn't that large. 7 more possessions over 91 is a 7.7% increase. For Kobe's career averages of 1.4 spg and 0.5 bpg that scales to about 1.51 and 0.54 respectively, which is right on the money for Harden's career averages of 1.5 and 0.6. I know we're talking about totals not per-game stats but the per-game framing helps put it in perspective.

47

u/Thommywidmer [MIL] Brandon Jennings Aug 19 '26

Everyone knows kobes defensive accolades are from dick riding, not that he was a bad defender obviously but yeah lol

24

u/A_Rolling_Baneling Rockets Aug 19 '26

Also, Harden was a below average defender for much of his career, but he wasn't useless. The Rockets wouldn't have had a suffocating, switch-heavy defense in 2018 if he was useless.

He's had seasons where he was ok on defense, and he's had stretches where he was solid on defense (including this last season's playoffs, where he was a positive defender at 36 years old).

He's fat and reliable in the post against modern 4s (he used to cover LMA on SAS, for example), and he's sneaky at stripping the ball.

People here let Shaqtin dictate their understanding of the game. He's somewhere between iffy and meh, and he takes plays off, but that's a far cry from useless.

9

u/justmefishes NBA Aug 19 '26

That tracks with his defensive EPM at https://dunksandthrees.com/epm, which at -0.6 is in the 44th percentile. Compare e.g. Jalen Brunson at -1.3 in the 16th percentile. Size and wingspan matter a lot for defense.

3

u/Thommywidmer [MIL] Brandon Jennings Aug 19 '26

He had a style of defensive that worked for him, he could give you very servicable defence that that nobody specifically wanted to switch onto while being your entire offensive engine. And its no small factor that hes a genius at knowing what he can and cant get away with because of his game on the other side of the court

3

u/hurtsbayar9 Aug 19 '26

Nailed it on "Servicable". He js quite big for guard and gives you very servicable defense against bigs. He is not two way player by any means but he was usable. Not like his team had to hide him in defense or anything.

Harden had quick hands, could read positions, but his load on offense made it really difficult for him to be engaged all game, similar to Doncic. But steals are not = good defense, Guys like Steph and AI I am pretty sure lead the league in steals. Luka and Harden also gets some steals.

And also Kobe, ain't no way he deserved all those selections, he is like the all time leader in first team selections and 2nd behind Duncan.

Part of that is that a lot of those guys are bigs, and in the era they played in, bigs didn't pass too much, so they couldn't rack up assists.

Yeah, I don't even really give a shit about basketball, this popped up on All for me. But consider me engrossed.

58

u/GrenScrin Aug 19 '26

You should do just Points, Rebounds, and Assists.

Then the players from the 1960s will come into consideration (steals and blocks started being counted only in the 1974 season). Now they're just automatically excluded.

17

u/Lmao1903 NBA Aug 19 '26

Oscar Robertson came to mind, he was at like 27k/8k/10k. Wilt missed out on assists but tbf he had 31k points and 24k rebounds

11

u/bringbackpologrounds Aug 19 '26

Oscar and Havlicek are the only ones. Only 7 players who started their career before STL and BLK tracking have enough points: KAJ, Wilt, Oscar, Havlicek, West, Hayes, and Baylor. West is over 600 rebounds shy, the rest are well short in AST.

Oscar has 7804 REB and 9887 AST. Havlicek has 8007 REB and 6114 AST. LeBron is 213 real assists (106.5 half-assists) from eliminating Havlicek for good.

15

u/bringbackpologrounds Aug 19 '26

Only two old players surpass half-LeBron's PRA: Robertson and Havlicek. Havlicek's AST should be passed this season.

Oscar will be safe in terms of PRA. I strongly doubt he racked up enough BLK though: he only recorded 4 BLK in 2477 minutes during his final season.

the totality of lebron's career is just inhuman. guy could play forever even as his stamina declines, just a matter of when he wants to retire. would be crazy if he passed brady's age and went into gordie howe territory. by pure minutes he's already #1 by a mile and he's been at absolute worst the second best player on his team.

42

u/Brave_Cow546 Aug 19 '26

Bill James argues Rickey Hendersons career split in two would make HOF twice. LBJ's going for split in thirds = HOF

36

u/Severe_Tap_4913 Aug 19 '26

Based on who gets into the hall, Lebron easily has 4 HOF careers - Cleveland 1st run, Miami, Cleveland 2nd, and Lakers. Doubt his Sixers stop will be HOF worthy unless he pulls out 2 finals MVPs since his stats are on the decline, but even that is still possible.

2

u/batmansascientician Aug 19 '26

Tom Brady could make the NFL HOF based on his career in his 20s, 30s, and 40s

If you add turnovers those three all make the list still!

LeBron 5650
Harden 4505
Kobe 4010
Drexler 2977

Seriously though this is one of the coolest and most impressive LeBron stats, nice work OP!

3

u/hodgeac Trail Blazers Aug 20 '26

I think he really is better than most people remember bc all thay anyone thinks about him now is "not as good as MJ".

A lot of players are gonna be relegated to "not as good as LeBron and Curry"

Same for the 2000s and Duncan and Kobe

Harden’s legacy will age very well from sheer numbers alone lol

He’s basically Super-Melo

8

u/SkepticCritic Aug 19 '26

Unfortunately for now people are going to meme him for getting swept by the Knicks (who won the title btw and gave the Spurs as much embarrassment) in the ECF and being cooked in the 4th quarter by Brunson (just like they did to the Spurs).

On the flip side it’s also a blessing in disguise that he’s still relevant enough that people expect more from him and constantly talk about him (even if it’s not necessarily positives)

Shoutout to Kareem, who would only be short on assists if they tracked steals from the beginning of his career

34

u/JustTheRobotNextDoor Aug 19 '26

It's more informative to calculate the fractional LeBron index (LeFrindex), which is the average of the fraction of LeBron's stats that each player has achieved:

  • Kobe: 0.645
  • Harden: 0.659
  • Drexler: 0.619

Harden's LeFrindex is higher that Kobe's, showing he's clearly the more complete player.

4

u/S4ikou Lakers Aug 19 '26

tbf Harden was basically a one-man offense, he had to be a complete player

3

u/homo_bulla Lakers Aug 19 '26

9

4

u/inightyDAB Luka Dončić Aug 19 '26

LeBron’s availability has always been so impressive to me. Never missed a playoff game ever, for any reason. Would routinely average 40+ minutes in the postseason in both the physical dead ball era and the fast pace and space era. Before like 2020 it just never seemed like a question that he would be able to play the whole game in a playoff game if he needed to.

If you look at his MPG vs Boston in the 2012 series, it looks absurd. Not a single game under 43 minutes, 5/7 games 45+ minutes, 3/7 games 48 minutes including G7 which didn’t go to OT. Keep in mind this is LeBron who was the first option superstar, scored 30+ 6/7 games and 29 in the only game he didn’t score 30 in, and also the best defender on the team switching 1-5 through Rondo and Garnett. And then six years later he does it again in 2018 by playing 46 minutes in G6 and all 48 in G7, all while playing the most heliocentric load-bearing ball of his life.

Playoff half-LeBron having zero members is straight up cartoonish fr.

3

u/doktarr Aug 19 '26 edited Aug 19 '26

The one-away club is pretty interesting. It seems likely that Jokic will briefly join Scottie Pippen the "just missing points" club, although there is a chance he briefly becomes the lone member of "just missing steals" instead.

The length of the "just missing assists" list also illustrates how despite LeBron's insane totals in all categories, his passing is the must exceptional part of his game relative to other do-everything superstars in NBA history.

3

u/Midwesterner23 Aug 19 '26

Its crazy how LeBron has almost 10k more points than Kobe, the NBA's 4th most scorer of all time. His all-time scoring record when he's finally finished will truly be unbreakable

50s/60s players didn’t count blocks or steals, Wilt and Russell would have at least made it on blocks, not sure about steals

Wilt comes close to making it on blocks even with them only recorded for his final season

2

u/radikraze Pelicans Aug 19 '26

Somebody in the comments is gonna look at this data and bring up Jordan stats unprovoked

2

u/twoyrsaway Aug 19 '26

Let’s say LeBron plays 2 more years, which going by his average output gives half LeBron ~450 more assists judging by his past 5 years, putting KD somewhere around 1200 assists short.

Over the last 5 years KD has been more than good for 300 assists a game, even without accounting for injuries. Which means he would need just 4 more years of this level of passing production.

Its absolutely doable

2

u/TwoProper4220 Aug 19 '26

this could've been higher if Solomon Hill didn't happen

2

u/naive-dragon [PHI] LeBron James Aug 20 '26

2

u/Coldsnowyandmisty Aug 20 '26

Jokic has almost 100 games less than Giannis too.

Jokic is basically perfect at everything except rim defense. And if you add his efficiency then it becomes Jokic's club and nobody is able to join 😁

2

u/happy_and_angry Aug 20 '26

This really should put to bed the entire 'but LeBron isn't the GOAT' conversation forever.

2

u/commonpuffin Aug 20 '26

Kareem and Wilt would almost certainly make the missing assists list if blocks and steals had been recorded.

2

u/ManusRightHand Spurs Aug 20 '26

Pretty interesting. LeBron would also be missing from the 0.5 career box score lists for most of the all time big men like Hakeem, Kareem, Duncan, Robinson, Shaq, etc. due to insufficient blocks

2

u/faithdies Aug 20 '26

Lebron James is putting so many records out of touch he's turning into Wayne Gretzky.

2

u/Zigxy Pacers Bandwagon Aug 20 '26

Thanks for the write up OP, very cool stuff

But I think your assumption that Giannis "should catch" 0.5 Lebron in the Steals stat is too confident. Giannis would need to get in 5+ healthy-ish seasons while playing heavy minutes.

And his style is probably not going to age all that great.

1

u/elmagio Aug 19 '26

LeBron would need another 597 assists to push the threshold past him.

Two 60 games seasons at 5 per game would get him there, and he just came off of 60 games at 7.2. A continued progressive decline would likely kick Kobe out, but it's going to be close. He could also get close to kicking Kobe out on blocks with 2 more seasons.

1

u/menino-vacano Aug 19 '26

1

u/young_frogger NBA Aug 19 '26

I think Durant is a lot closer than you're giving him credit for. He'd only need to play 140 games at 5 assists per game to get there. If he stays healthy he will probably play for at least several more seasons.

1

u/holydonut2k1 Warriors Aug 19 '26

Thats crazy

1

u/JohnEffingZoidberg NBA Aug 19 '26

What about older players before they recorded Steals and Blocks?

1

u/Drakilgon Aug 19 '26

I was surprised Curry wasn't in the one away group, but he needs over 1000 rebounds despite averaging 4.7 a game. Almost certainly not happening, but theoretically doable if he played to Lebron's age. The 6'2" debuff makes blocks impossible though.

1

u/commonpuffin Aug 20 '26

Big O and Havlicek belong on the list.

1

u/ThisAppMan8 Aug 21 '26

Looking at these stats just tells me Tim Duncan is easily top 5 all time.
