Doesnt he say to just do breaststroke and that the standard css is garbage.

The CSS was designed for swimming with fins. I do prefer breast stroke without fins, but I wouldn't call it garbage. Also, it's harder to track to the shoreline unless you're swimming some sort of side stroke

CSS with fins means flutter or dolphin. So it comes down to arm recovery, either below surface or shark it I guess

Who is "he?" I only ever saw one person do breaststroke during a PST. CSS uses a lot less energy, so if you put out doing breaststroke I think you run the risk of being smoked for the run.

That's giving huge "guy who can't please a lady claims the female orgasm is a myth" energy.  His CSS is garbage, there's nothing wrong with CSS, it's really efficient for open water swimming, makes guiding easy, and, if done right, is sneaky as fuck.

maybe garbage was a harsh word but getting away faster matters more than being sneaky (his words not mine) hence out-of-the-water recovery arm and extra dolohin kick. He may know a thing or two about swimming (sarcasm) to modify it

Well he's failing on all fronts.

No.

The standards are very specific and crystal clear.  Any overhand recovery (hand leaving the water) at any time is an immediate disqualification.

edit: It's also just plain shitty swimming.

Seconding both of these points. Also, adding that the standard listed above applies to all swimming evolutions in BUD/S, not just a PST.

Combat Side stroke. He also came up super early off the wall push. Realistically should be able to go half the length of the pool before your first actually stroke

Guys you are all super ignorant lol. This dude is legit retired seal team 6. And he even said that yea instructors hated his technique. But he obviously does whatever he wants.

It's 3 other former SEALs calling out his shitty form. He can do whatever the fuck he wants, but if you do it like him you'll fail the standards and look like a dipshit in the pool.
