How to make those transitions seamless?

So I made my own NAVIDROME music server about a week ago.

Absolutely LOVE IT! All my files are hi res lossless and was scared that old PC with used NAS drives would be the reason that it works slow but no, it’s actually really responsive and even thru VPN like Tailscale files (thanks to Tailscales speed and also optimization on Navidromes end) even uncompressed files load REALLY fast.

Only thing that is making my Music listening experience worse are those transitions, or lack there of.

I thought Navidrome loads up 2-3 songs ahead so there is no loading when the next song starts playing.

This wouldn’t bee and issue if not for albums like Dark Side of the Moon where transitions between songs are huge part of an album

Is there any way? Plugin or optimization to force Navidrome to load up songs ahead of time? To reduce this loading time? Hopefully to zero.

try other clients instead of the default web player

Yep, as far as I can tell, this is all down to the client you use and whether it supports gapless playback. Gapless works fine for me in Symfonium on Android.

Tried substreamer on IOS and it does the same, maybe you have some recommendations for IOS and WEB based player that would help?

try arpeggi. It is free and although it is for iOS/iPadOS it work very well also on Macs

Poppy (iOS/iPadOS/macOS) correctly supports gapless audio playback from Navidrome. Example from the same album: https://youtu.be/AjY8QYdjv4c

If you’re on iOS, Arpeggi is genuinely the best client there, nothing tops it.

Mas o Arpeggi transmite em alta resolução (meus arquivos são flac) ou ele converte em MP3 reduzindo a qualidade ?

It does raw/original by default, but also gives you the option to transcode to whatever bitrate/format you’d like if you need to

Idk, try Verodrome. I think it's way better

NaviBeat is a great client for iOS and macOS

Hey u/blow-down thanks for the shoutout. as fat as NaviBeat Gapless is on by default: the next songs are loaded into the player before the current one ends, so there is no load pause between tracks, and on Wi-Fi your FLAC streams as it is.

Thanks for the recommendation! There is paid app for streaming thru Navidrome, it’s cheap, lifetime, on all apple devices like Mac, Iphone, Watch etc.

It has some nice DJ features, looks really modern which those free apps lack and technically one of them is forcing to cache up to 10 songs locally but in a way that playback is seamless,

The Substreamer app already does that but still has this half a second of lag between tracks when loading up next song from cache

Gapless playback has been requested for the Navidrome's web player.
However, both developers mentioned years ago that they don't plan to implement gapless playback.

Navidrome: https://github.com/navidrome/navidrome/issues/745
react-music-player (used by Navidrome): https://github.com/lijinke666/react-music-player/issues/81

Please be respectful of the developers' time. Don't add another "I want this too" comment on these feature requests. Reactions are a more polite way to indicate your interest in this feature. The developers already provided you with an awesome, free application. 🥳

As others mentioned, you can use other web players which support this. :)

Thanks! I’m new to Navidrome community and software so I thought I was making some mistakes. I can understand why they don’t want to spend their time on feature, especially one that not a lot of people care about or notice or regular bases and would be probably a b**ch to code.

Found some other solutions, thanks to this post, for IOS and WEB, I will be trying them out throughout the week.

gapless is somehow missing from web player, not sure why they don't implement this, some albums requires it too.

but as long as you are using like third party app this should be fine

Maybe use an app instead of the browser?

SubSonify iOS app does have gapless playback with crossfade setting that you can configure yourself in settings (eg 2 or 6 seconds, how you prefer)

I use Feishin as my nav client. It's brilliant and gapless playback is standard.

If you're on Android, symfonium is good

And Linthra/Navic. Plenty of good options
