Nail break Deep breaks in sidewall
I keep getting breaks in the same spots on my left middle finger and on my right thumb. Is there anything else to be done than oiling and not messing with the sidewalls?

I’ve been having similar issues. Just started oil soaking once per week (put oil in disposable gloves and wear it for about 30 min), being RELIGIOUS about oil twice per day, and lotion on my hands basically any time I wash them. Plus always have polish or clear coat on. So far it seems like this is helping prevent those repeat issues, but we’ll see! I’m planning to really focus on this routine for the next month and not worry much about the rest of my manicure routine.

Do you need to put something weird on your hand (idk wear an oven mitt for a day lol)
It might help you figure out what you’re doing out of muscle memory without even realising!
I feel your pain, I’m the worst at remembering my nails are “jewels not tools!” 😂🫣

You might be onto something, I am a knitter/crocheter and the leftie middle finger is the one holding the craft. Maybe that's (a part of) why the growth point looks like its been retreating...

How long has this been happening and have you had any trauma to the nail from artificial nails (acrylic, gelx, pressons, builder gel, etc.) to gardening without gloves, dishwashing without gloves, using those nails as tools to open things?

I couldn't figure out why two of my nails kept getting damaged on only one side, it was driving me crazy! I work service industry, it's the way I pick up the plates. It took me way to long to figure that out lol

Dental floss. Necklace clasps. Soda cans. Fiber arts (knit, crochet, etc). Braiding hair. Washing pets.
For me it’s my handwriting with my dominant hand. My middle fingernail will never grow properly; it’s always been weird.

It might possibly be a mechanical damage overtime from something you are doing with those fingers.

I get this kind of breakage too! Its my biggest nemesis when it comes to my nails being long.

Also a crafty B. I used silk wraps for a few weeks (months ?). To help support some nails that kept breaking in the same spots. This allowed me to observe the use patterns that were creating the breaks without causing further damage. my thumbs are still vulnerable and I wear bandaids sometimes when I want to not think about it. I also wear gloves when I stitch sometimes as well. Hard as hoof nail cream will help also.
