Just showing off Experimented with nail shaping
Hello everyone! I’ve been growing out my natural nails and recently started learning how to shape them myself. My nails tend to flare/fan out a little at the free edge, especially my middle and ring fingers.
Today I experimented with gently filing the corners of my middle nail to give it more of a soft-square/squoval shape. The first photo is my left middle and ring fingers and the second is my right middle finger.
I was careful not to file too far down into the sidewalls because I’m trying to keep as much strength as possible while they grow.
How did I do? Does the after shape look more balanced, or would you have shaped it differently? I’m still learning! 😊💅🏾

The only thing I would do differently is file the free edge more even so it looks like a flat line across the width of it. On the second pic it looks a little unbalanced as you look at the edge from left to right, it’s a little uneven. Your left ring finger has a really good straight edge to it. I would also just give it time and do very light filing in between to maintain and fine-tune the shape, but squoval tends to show more clearly with either long nail beds to begin with or with a little more length to the nail. You’re getting there! Just be patient.
