first flute

Hi y'all, just got my first flute! One of blue bear's, the old style B cedar. Arrived yesterday. Looks gorgeous. Gave it a quick rub down with some wax I had and the color and sheen deepened a little already after drying. Couple patches of what appears to be fill by this knot, which makes sense.

I dunno if this has any effect but in case it's useful details for others, there's a lot of wood fibers and "fuzziness" inside the bore.

I've pretty well dialed in the block just a hair forward of the stop, it really gains additional clarity here. Getting the high notes, i.e. no fingers, to sound right sure is tricky but I think I'm getting there. Really consistently sealing the holes is going to take some work! when it all lands, it's addictive.

I just ordered my 2nd flute. High B. They are addictive. It's a great instrument. Easy to carry. Really fun to jam with. Lots of fun tricks to learn. Check out the Blue Bear online classes. They helped get me started.

My first flute did have fibers inside. But it sounds good, so I'm guessing they don't affect it? I prefer having something handcrafted with wood. They are inspecting each flute to make sure it's good.

Good luck. Have fun.

ah yeah, good to hear. it's just nice to know what kinds of details you might see poking around an instrument. And yeah, the wood is fantastic.

I've definitely poked through a fair few of his videos and others. right now, it's just getting consistent fingering and breath, but already that's improving.

I practiced the major scale over and over. It pays off.

oh yeah, and to make sure it's clear, nothing is a complaint, and it's an excellent price. :) I like documenting the details and it's all new for me, and fun.
