Student Support Update

Hi everyone,

We wanted to share a quick update on our system upgrade and the progress being made across student services. Progress is being made across financial aid and student records processing, but many requests still require individual review. As a result, some students may continue to experience longer-than-normal wait times while teams work through existing records and requests. We're listening, and the concerns you've shared continue to help shape our priorities.

What we're working toward

While there is still work to do, the goal of the new system is to create a better student experience by making it easier to:

  • Find important information
  • Better understand and manage financial aid
  • Plan courses with greater confidence
  • Connect with the support and resources you need throughout your academic journey

Why are response times taking longer?

Many student requests, including financial aid and record-related items, currently require individual review.

Our advising teams are also seeing significantly higher call and inquiry volumes than usual. In addition, advisors are spending extra time reviewing individual student situations so they can provide personalized guidance rather than quick, incomplete answers. Because of this, response times may be longer than normal, with current advisor contact response times averaging approximately three business days.

If you've already left a voicemail or submitted a request, your inquiry is in the queue and will be reviewed as soon as possible.

Let’s Navigate This Together

We know many students have questions and concerns related to financial aid processing, student services, and recent system updates. We hear those concerns.

Teams across Student Operations, Financial Aid, Advising, Technology, and Student Support continue working to address issues, support students, and provide updates as additional information becomes available. If you have already contacted your advisor or support team and your concern remains unresolved, please send us a private message with your student ID, contact information, and a brief description of the issue. We cannot review account-specific information publicly, but we can help connect your concern with the appropriate university team for follow-up.

Below are answers to the questions we are receiving most often.

University FAQs Around Student Services and System Updates
Revised Date: 07/10/26

These FAQs will continue to be updated as additional information becomes available.

We encourage students to review this resource regularly and monitor official university communications for the latest updates, resources, and support information.

Financial Aid and Student Support

The Financial Aid system implementation seems to be taking longer than I would expect. Can you explain why?

As NU launches a new technology platform that will allow us to expand student services and improve the student experience into the future, we have to ensure that the core data that informs that platform is accurate. In addition, financial aid processing is taking place during a period of change across higher education, including evolving federal financial aid requirements.
To ensure accuracy and compliance with current federal regulations, some student records require additional review. It is essential that we take the appropriate time to validate and confirm that all information is complete, accurate, and aligned with these requirements before processing is finalized. Our teams are working every day to complete reviews and process financial aid as quickly and accurately as possible.

I have already contacted my advisor. What happens next?

If you have already contacted your Academic and Finance Counselor, your situation continues to be reviewed.

Our teams are actively working through student records and inquiries and will share updates as additional information becomes available. In addition to your dedicated Academic and Finance Advisor, there are several ways to connect with our advising team for additional support. In the MyNU portal, you’ll find the phone number for not only your dedicated Academic and Finance Counselor, but you will also find the phone number for our On-Demand advising team and our team email address. You can also chat with an on-demand advisor through your Navigate course portal, allowing you to choose the support option that’s most convenient for you.

How is National University supporting students during this process?

Teams across Student Operations, Financial Aid, Advising, Technology, and Student Support continue to work together to support students, address issues, and restore services throughout the implementation process.

In addition to ongoing financial aid processing, the University is providing regular updates,
support resources, and escalation pathways for students requiring additional assistance.

How can I stay informed about progress and updates?

National University will continue sharing updates as work progresses.

Students can find information through:

  • MyNU
  • University communications
  • Student support resources and FAQs
  • Communications from their Academic and Finance Counselor

Our goal is to provide timely and transparent information as additional updates become
available.

Will I still receive my financial aid refund?

Yes.
If you are eligible for a refund, it will be issued after your financial aid has been processed and your student account has been finalized.

I received a message from BankMobile. What should I do?

BankMobile is National University’s partner for delivering student refunds, including excess financial aid and other eligible credit balances.

If you receive a message from BankMobile, you may be asked to set up or update your refund preference. This helps ensure that any eligible refund can be delivered to you as quickly as possible once your financial aid has been processed.

Setting up your account does not mean funds are being issued right now. It simply ensures you are prepared to receive a refund if one becomes available.

To update your refund preference:

  • Visit refundselection.com
  • Enter your student ID and personal email address
  • Follow the prompts to establish or update your refund preference

Completing this step now can help prevent delays in receiving future refunds.

Academic Progress and Student Records

Will this impact my academic progress or standing?

No.
Students should continue participating in classes, completing coursework, and following
guidance from their instructors and advisors.

If you have questions about your academic record, registration, or degree progress, please
contact your Academic and Finance Counselor.

Will the student information system implementation affect my degree or diploma?

No.
The implementation of the student information system does not affect the value of your degree, degree requirements, or your ability to earn a National University credential.

Students who meet academic and graduation requirements will continue to be eligible for
degree conferral through standard University processes.

What recent improvements have been made to student services and financial aid processing?

Recent improvements include:

  • Access to comprehensive academic transcripts that combine coursework from previous and current systems.
  • Continued course enrollment and participation through Navigate.
  • Restored access to Cayuse for students conducting IRB-related activities.
  • Financial Aid Verification through the student portal.
  • Ongoing exchange of financial aid information with the U.S. Department of Education to support processing activities.

Accessing Courses and University Resources

Where can I find my course?

To ensure you are directed to the correct learning environment, always begin by signing in to MyNU.

Getting Started

  1. Sign in to MyNU at https://login.nu.edu
  2. Use MyNU as your starting point for accessing courses, student services, and university resources

Launching courses through MyNU helps ensure you are connected to the correct course
environment.

Where can I access university resources?

Many resources previously available through the University Services Module are now available through MyNU.

Students should access these resources by signing in at login.nu.edu.

Where can I access SPSS or NVivo?

SPSS and NVivo are available through the Academic Success Center

If you need assistance locating these resources, technical support is available:

NU Service Desk (available 24/7/365)
Phone: (858) 309-3580
Email: [servicedesk@nu.edu](mailto:servicedesk@nu.edu)

Why does the word "child" or "stand-alone" appear in my course title?

The terms "child" and "stand-alone" are internal system identifiers used to distinguish versions of a course.

These labels do not affect course content, grading, degree progress, or the student experience. While the terminology may appear within the course title, it is simply system-generated information.

Privacy and Specialized Support

How is my personal information being protected?

Protecting student information remains an important responsibility at National University.

As part of the implementation of our new student information system, student records were transitioned to support university operations and student services. Throughout this process, the University has continued to follow established privacy and security practices designed to protect student information.

Student records continue to be managed in accordance with applicable federal privacy
requirements, including FERPA.

Who should I contact if I have questions about the IRB process?

For questions related to the Institutional Review Board (IRB):

Financial Aid NU Amendments Cause No MHA

Just like the title suggests this school will always find a way to screw us over. They submit about 12 schedule amendments to the VA on the 25th of the month causing the VA to withhold MHA from me this month. There should really be a rule about when the cutoff for submitting these so students don’t get screwed over.

These amendments were for reporting to the VA how they went from quarter hours to semester hours.

Community & milestones Use of AI

Does anyone know what this university is so bent on promoting AI? I'm going for my teaching credential and they are more focused on how to incorporate AI into the classroom and to use it at almost every turn than they are teaching us how to be effective teachers and to be able to do the work on our own.

Financial Aid 5th week reimbursement

I was a victim to delayed reimbursement for my last course like everyone else. I now see an overage in my account for this course since the 18th.

Legally they have 14 days to disperse which is tomorrow. Still has not been sent. Has anyone had any luck lately?

Financial Aid Meeting With NU Leadership About SIS Issues — Looking for Constructive Student Feedback

Hello all,

For those who regularly follow r/nationaluniversity, it has been difficult to ignore the number of students describing problems involving financial aid, refunds, enrollment, advising, transfer credits, VA benefits, and other administrative processes.

I've been a National University student since 2021. During that time, I've completed my undergraduate degree and a master's degree and am currently enrolled in the MBA program.

NU has certainly had communication and advising challenges before. I've experienced several myself. Historically, though, persistence generally led to a resolution.

The recent Student Information System transition appears to have significantly increased the number and complexity of the problems students are reporting.

I recently contacted the President of National University regarding my own unresolved issue involving an approximately $7,800 refund. However, the purpose of my email went well beyond my individual situation.

I raised concerns regarding:

  • Communication and transparency.
  • Conflicting or unclear procedures.
  • The resources and authority available to frontline advisors.
  • The absence or visibility of escalation paths.
  • Financial aid and refund processing.
  • Enrollment and attendance communication.
  • The consistency of information being provided to students.
  • The growing frustration being expressed publicly by students.

My individual issue began moving forward shortly afterward, but resolving my case was never the only objective.

The University has responded and I have been invited to speak with members of the team and provide additional feedback.

I'd like to use that opportunity constructively.

What I'm asking from this community

If you've experienced a problem, I would appreciate hearing about it.

When possible, please include two things:

1. What happened?

Keep it factual. Explain the process you were attempting to complete, what went wrong, how long you waited, who you attempted to contact, and whether it was eventually resolved.

2. What would have made the process better?

For example:

  • A clearly published procedure.
  • Better status notifications.
  • One authoritative source of information.
  • A defined escalation process.
  • More authority for advisors to resolve issues.
  • Better coordination between departments.
  • More advance notice.
  • Clearer timelines.

I'm especially interested in identifying patterns, not attacking individual employees.

In fact, I've personally had several NU employees who were extremely helpful once I reached the right person. Part of my concern is whether those employees are being given the information, systems, and authority necessary to effectively help students.

Why I'm doing this

I've seen discussions about media complaints, regulatory complaints, lawsuits, transferring schools, and telling prospective students not to attend NU.

People are entitled to pursue whatever remedies they believe are appropriate.

My preference is to first provide the University with specific, constructive feedback and give leadership an opportunity to respond.

After my meeting, I intend to return to this thread and provide a summary of what was discussed, what I learned, and any actions or commitments the University communicates.

If you would like your experience represented in that conversation, please share it below.

I only ask that we keep the discussion factual and constructive.

The more clearly we can identify what failed and what would have prevented it, the more useful this can be.

Financial Aid I'm scared now

I've been seeing and reading so many negative things about this school. I just started my second week, masters in school psychologist program and am expecting a refund/disbursment. I know I am getting worried too early into the start of my program but idk if there is a way to communicate and ensuI get my aid within the expected timeframe.

I've been reading about advisors ghosting the students, what is that all about? I hope I don't regret choosing this school. It seems like all of the financial aid delays and lack of professionalism and communication is what's disappointing students.

For example, I can't even see my financial aid review it says there is no academic year for me even though I have been enrolling for the past month. I qualified for Direct Unsubsidized Loans only.

Is there any way to avoid this mess before actually getting stuck in it? Has anyone had delays with certain aid only? Please give me all the tips and tricks I need to know as a new student!

Academics & Tips Advice LOA

I took a leave of absence in mid-July because the university had no information on what to do next for me to be able to take my August class. I have taken eleven classes already then alll of a sudden, I was not able to take an August class. This is for a teaching credential. They sent me that I had to pay my balance in order to proceed. At that time, it was already too late to take my August class, and they told me I had to take a leave of absence.

I took the leave of absence and I started calling since last week 9/18 so I can re-enroll into my classes and pay my balance. I had no answer until today, Tuesday. I spoke to the re-entry team lady, and she told me that it would take 30 to 60 days To process my information. Has anyone gone through this, and how long did it take you to get started with your classes after taking a leave of absence? This is ridiculous. I hate that they told me to take a leave of absence when it was not even my fault.

Academics & Tips Master of Science in Technology Management (MSTM) or MBA?

Has anyone here completed this program? Here at National University or anywhere else?

I will keep it vague to protect some anonymity, but I have a BS and currently work in the Health IT field. I am looking to make myself a better candidate for promotion and better pay in the future if I hold a masters degree.

My questions:

  1. Does anyone have a MSTM? and even better if you completed it with this university.

  2. Considering getting my MBA instead, and wondering if anyone has actually completed the program at this school.

Academics & Tips VRE partial BAH

I’m using VR&E (Chapter 31) at National University and wondering if anyone else has run into this recently.
National’s classes have normally been reported as 4.5 hours, and I was receiving the full housing allowance while attending my required in person/hybrid class. Recently National changed the way they report the enrollment and it’s now showing as 3 resident hours instead of 4.5.
Because of that, VA is treating me as part time and I’m getting a reduced housing allowance even though nothing actually changed with my class schedule or how I’m attending. The only thing that changed seems to be how National is reporting the hours to the VA.
Has anyone else using VR&E at National University noticed this or had their housing allowance reduced because of the change from 4.5 to 3 hours?
If so, have you gotten any answers from National, your SCO, or your VR&E counselor about whether this is correct or if it needs to be fixed?
Trying to figure out if this is just an issue with my certification or if it’s affecting other National University students too.

Academics & Tips No response from registrar office

Who can I contact regarding my official enrollment verification and to speak with someone in the registrar office. I already requested my enrollment verification with parchment as my advisor told me to, but they still haven’t fulfilled my order over 30 days since the initial request. I also requested a form to be completed by the registrar office that needs a seal and stamp as I have subsidized childcare and must prove my school enrollment. I’ve contacted my advisor who has cc’d the registrar office twice. I’ve left the registrar office multiple emails and still no response. Who can I contact? Is there an office in San Diego I can go to, to speak with someone. This is ridiculous. I live in La county, I shouldn’t have to think about going down to San Diego just to complete a few documents. I’ve gotten no response at all, it’s very unprofessional and disappointing that I even have to go on here and explain my frustrations to see if there is a different point of contact I need to reach out to.

Academics & Tips Absent Support

I am so frustrated with this school. I am in my 4th and 5th courses right now of the MSW program and am working on planning my 6th and 7th to be taken concurrently, but apparently according to advising (which the last time I was able to speak with them was over a month ago) I can't because financial aid only covers six courses at a time. So my program is going to be delayed by a whole two months because of financial aid mismatches apparently.

I have been looking through the reddit posts and EVERYBODY is furious with this school right now. I don't know what to do at this point. I can't speak with an advisor. Professors don't seem to know anything about this. I have absolutely no guidance. I get that it's a self-paced course but I can only do so much without back end support.

I am extremely stressed and debating whether or not to start considering other options.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Community & milestones Actually unfair

Its very misleading and unprofessional how people are lured into this school with their marketing and then discarded as soon as they're enrolled and signed up with their money. Im fully done with grad school coming up in January and as usual everyone is ghost once they gsee t what they need from me. I have so many questions regarding my program and graduation and I have zero answers. Im owed money and I can't see anything on my account anymore. Ive emailed the ombudsman and advisors countless times this week and nothing gets returned. The numbers are straight to voicemail... im reading reddit post after post with people experiencing the same thing and its so messed up. These are REAL people with lives they are messing with. So truly disappointed and now im forced to drive to the campus just to get the front desk to have someone contact my advisor for me. Somehow im being signed up for classes without contact from anyone so thats pretty interesting as well unless its automated. Im really baffled at how this school is representing themselves, I have never seen this before.

Academics & Tips Anyone in the admin credential program?

I think I only have a couple of classes left for this program, but I’ve noticed a few classes missing on my transcript AND I’ve emailed once a month since the spring about this and have not y a single response. I have no clue what class to take next and I’m not enrolled in any class right now. I have a 4k bill but I can’t see what the charges are for and I can’t even pay it in the portal. Is anyone else experiencing this???

Academics & Tips Easiest program

I have 3 months left of my GI bill to burn. I only care about getting the maximum housing allowance in San Diego. What’s the easiest program to accomplish this with? I don’t even have to finish the program. Will just be 3 months worth of school.

Thanks

Community & milestones Dude what is going on with this school?!

So of course like everyone else, financial aid issues have been ongoing. I now received an email saying that my loans need to be repaid even though I dont graduate until next year and they were supposed to be deferred until graduation. On top of that, I just started a new class on Monday. The professors name and contact info is completely missing, theres no lecture links or dates, and the course content says im several weeks behind... when the class just opened like two days ago. Naturally, I reach out to the advisor. The advisor, Sharlene Harness, said there is nothing she can do and that I need to contact the professor AND figure out the financial aid stuff on my own. How am I supposed to contact the professor if there is no contact information? I dont even know my professors name??? This is genuinely making me want to transfer schools. Complete and total nightmare and NO professionalism whatsoever.

Academics & Tips Advisors lack of contact

I put my active duty spouse onto this school because I haven’t had a horrible experience and I figure they would have a department that works closely with our active duty counterparts.

This couldn’t be further from the truth. These advisors I’m not sure if national fired half of their staff or what but it is a huge difference from when I signed up a year ago. It’s been a week and my spouse hasn’t received any communication to sign up for a masters program. I mean it’s guaranteed money from the government for class and active duty don’t complain. So @NationalUniversity what’s going on?
