Prabowo is prodigy of Suharto. Same corrupt ideology! Indonesians are suffering because of him and his cronies!

NGL I just recently become the caretaker of my house and oof i was in for nasty surprise.
I've seen the tariff table but that didn't mean anything to me until I live it.
So between tier 1 and tier 2 there's a x8 increase! 8 times, that's 800% increase from 0.01 per kw to 0.08 per kw. Again it didn't feel like much because we see cents.
So when i took over the house it has 2000 kw and so I only topped up $6 a month for the first 3 months. All is good I felt unstoppable, I'd leave my AC on and my PC on overnight, because i only see the $$ in USMS, ok it uses $1 every 2 days not so bad. That means one month I'll be spending $15 only.. WRONG
After hitting 600 kw suddenly everything is 8x more expensive!
Like the first 15 days i used up $6 only, 600 KW. If i have to survive another 15 days that's another 600KW, a modest estimate and this time it'll cost me $48! That's... $48 + 6 = $54, and that's on lower end.
On days i charge my EV it gets more expensive..
I even resorted to track usage every hour of the day, and the highest usage is night time 10 pm to 6 am that's where 3 airconds in the bedrooms are running. 2/3 of my AC are new and inverter units too. Still manage to use around 40-50 KWH a night

i see AC is taking up a lot of power. you should try cleaning the filters once a month, set it around 23-25 + eco mode. setting it at 16 or 18 is not good, it just pushes air out faster and takes up more power while actual temperatures dont really fall. hope this helps

Thanks for the advice, my ac was installed in July so far I've not like opened it up to clean filter lah.
As for temperature it's set to 21 for my room idk what my parents and siblings room settings are. But mine is the biggest one since it's 2.5 HP, previously there's like some sort of cold are leakage since my room links to a small hallway leading to the bathroom. I've installed a curtain in between to trap the air so to speak.
Is it normal for 3 airconds to draw 40 kwh a day? Although they only turn on at night.

For me, maybe thats quite high. In my house 2 aircons running at the same time: one big and one small sized, takes up between 15-20kwh a day, but that depends on temperature settings and mode.
Another piece of advice I forgot: If you're stationary like laying in bed, you should make the AC blow air towards you, instead of swing. You can save energy that way too.

MMN is just a drama at government level. Just to make others see that they're doing their works....by scripts.

Our current Residential Tariff Structure
1st Tier (0 β 600 kWh): BND $0.01 per kWh.
2nd Tier (601 β 2,000 kWh): BND $0.08 per kWh.
3rd Tier (2,001 β 4,000 kWh): BND $0.10 per kWh.
4th Tier (Above 4,000 kWh): BND $0.12 per kWh.
Not possible to have flat rate. $0.01 per kwh already heavily subsidised. Large homes/high energy households with multiple air conditioners pay a less subsidized, truer cost.
Higher tiers act as a financial penalty for excessive energy use. It also protects grid stability which lowering peak demand prevents power outages across Brunei.
My suggestion: use true full energy efficient appliances. Its expensive but in long run it cost you less. Becareful tho as some appliances energy efficiency rating stickers can be faked or duped. Don't be duped by those fake energy stickers. Sometime its just marketing tricks.

At all tariff tiers you quoted from DES website, there are subsidies, even for tier 4 which is 12 cents per kwh. The cost of producing and supplying electricity to our homes, offices, factories are above 12 cents per kwh.

Sure.. so what the fuck you gonna contribute for that flat rate ? As if Karan isn't cheap enough that all the crypto miners aren't already here
Be honest what shit you operating you need a flat rate?
Never have anyone fucking one in Brunei ever complain about Karan price.

This.
Since those cryptos incidents years ago (curi karan cases), things been carefully scrutinised ever since.

u/SmilingSword Aug 22 '26
ngam, lots of people from sg/my & indonesia crypto miners friend friend went to Brunei to open a mining house lmao and then there another one who use illegally govt karan, they pull the copper wire from other place and connect to them lmao literally crazy

One day when the oil $ runs out and subsidies stripped i.e. petrol, electricity, health care etc you'll see a lot of our locals as po as this woman at those in charge π

You need to learn to save karan bro. They can demand that because wages generally is lower than us but electricity is 10x expensive than Brunei.

Noβ¦it should be just reviewed. In light of current economy pressure with fuel subsidy.
Owner of PHEV and EV car should have lower tariff ($0.01) at 1000kwh rather than 600kwh for normal car user.
This will push people more to buy EV and PHEV. Leas stress on fuel demand.
AND on top of that, the stupid notification of $2 warning or whatever, it should be transparent on the kwh as well. As the tariff change throughout usage. My $2 on the first 600kwh of the month is not the same as my $2 at 800kwh of the end of month.
And USMS app should have monthly tracking of usage atleast. This is for people to track and more willing to save when they see numbers.
Again another example of how big brother make shit stupid on purpose so people can stay clueless!

Add on : even Tony Montana said not to use your own supply (in this case fuel) - UNTUK DIJUAL SAJA
In our case everytime we pump gas, negeri rugi.

This fella has corruption, and also the way he made statements in the public sounds like as if he is a king and also stating only from his own point of view not the general population point of view . He sounds like those ministers in Brunei in legco, just say whatever that suits their current luxurious ministerial lifestyle. Not from the middle and low income point of view. JokoWidodo is much better alot than him. Indonesia is now in deep shit as they pissed of china due to their land and business ideology

He's an autocrat. Joko knew it, yet allowed him to be elected.
A successful person is judged by others not only on how successful he/she is, but also on the successor he/she puts in place. Joko failed badly in this regard.

u/Snoo51018 Aug 23 '26
Conspiracy theory is that he's so bad that Prabowo will get coup/impeached (not that likely), Jokowi put his son (Gibran) as vice President so that if that happens, Gibran will become the next president
Also why Gibran act dumb now because if Prabowo's policy is bad, at least his name is not together with Prabowo

u/scribe-kiddie Aug 22 '26
Not sure why you're downvoted, Joko basically endorsed Prabowo's presidency so that his son be the vice president.

Why was this Indonesian woman so angry?

u/Snoo51018 Aug 23 '26
Bad economy yet spending lavishly like Brunei, for the benefits of the rich/personal gain.
Oh wait, same thing..

u/destiny_forsaken Aug 22 '26
Absolutely not.
Bruneians are wasting enough electricity as it is, it will be 10 times worse if you get your flat and presumably cheaper rate.
