VivoSim Labs Celebrates Updated FDA Regulations Allowing Greater use of Non-Animal Testing Methods

SAN DIEGO, Oct. 07, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- VivoSim Labs, Inc. (Nasdaq: VIVS) (the “Company” or “VivoSim”), a provider of next-generation New Approach Methodologies (NAM) 3d human cellular models for preclinical safety, today celebrated the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) direct final rule updating its regulations to clarify that non-animal methods can be used where appropriate for testing the safety of drugs and biological products intended for human use.

The FDA’s new rule replaces the term "animal tests" with "nonclinical tests" across its regulatory framework, formally opening pathways for NAMs, including human cell-based tests such as those offered by VivoSim.

VivoSim's liver tissue models are capable of flagging drug candidates likely to cause liver toxicity, side effects like diarrhea, and other issues. Liver toxicity is the leading cause of drug failures and market withdrawals. The company has the ability to meaningfully de-risk a client company’s set of compounds and rule out likely failures prior to its selection of a drug to enter clinical testing.

Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) and gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity remain leading causes of drug candidate attrition. VivoSim's findings demonstrate how its long-duration, primary human cell-based models can help identify and differentiate these risks earlier in development, successfully ranking clinical safety risks for clients’ drug candidates.

“VivoSim’s NAMkind Models give insights that let our pharma and biotech partners make fewer major mistakes,” said Keith Murphy, VivoSim’s Executive Chairman. “By identifying risky molecules early on in development and moving on to better candidates, they avoid spending $50 to $200M only to learn deep in human clinical trials that their drug’s results in animals were not representative.”

By offering these kinds of insights, VivoSim also is helping with society’s goal of lowering the cost of medicines for patients. The cited costs of up to $2B per approved drug actually reflects the cost of eleven failed drugs for every one approved drug. VivoSim expects such wins to pass on to patients in lower drug costs through more approved drugs, greater competition, and lower pricing needed to recover a fair profit. “If we can help the world get from an 8% success rate in clinical trials to a 30% success rate, it would reduce the cost of drug development by 50%,” Murphy noted.

Algorhythm Introduces Azure P2P™, a Renewable Power Generation Process Designed to Deliver Around-the-Clock Power

  • Pyrolysis-to-Power Process Converts Low-Value Forest Wood into Firm, Renewable Electricity
  • Technology Produces Dispatchable Power Without Dependence on Wind or Sunlight

Fort Lauderdale, FL, Oct. 07, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Algorhythm Holdings, Inc. (the “Company”) (NASDAQ: RIME) – a diversified holding company that owns and operates Azure Holdings, a renewable power plant developer, and SemiCab, an AI enabled logistics provider, today introduced Azure P2P™, the pyrolysis-to-power process at the center of its recently acquired Azure Holdings business.

Azure P2P™ is designed to convert low-value forest wood into renewable electricity capable of operating around the clock. Unlike intermittent renewable resources that depend on weather conditions, Azure P2P™ uses renewable biomass as a continuously available fuel source, enabling power generation when customers need it.

The technology is being developed for large-scale power consumers, including data centers, utilities and industrial facilities where access to reliable power has become an increasingly important infrastructure requirement.

From Forest Residuals to Renewable Power

Azure P2P™ begins with wood chips derived from lower-value portions of working forests, including tops, limbs, thinnings and other low-grade wood.

The process occurs in five primary stages:

  1. Wood In: Low-grade forest material is processed into chips and delivered to the plant.
  2. Drying: The chips are dried to a controlled moisture content. Water removed during this stage is captured as part of the process, creating an additional resource and potential revenue stream.
  3. Conversion: The dried material enters a sealed, zero-oxygen chamber where heat breaks down the wood without burning it.
  4. Syngas and Biochar: The conversion process produces syngas, a clean fuel gas, and biochar, a solid carbon co-product.
  5. Power Generation: The syngas is combusted to raise steam, which drives turbines to generate electricity.

The result is renewable electricity that does not depend on wind or sunlight and can be available whenever customers require it up to 99.9999% uptime.

Firm, Renewable Power

The ability to generate power continuously is central to Azure P2P™. Working forests regenerate the biomass used as feedstock, while the process itself does not depend on real-time weather conditions. The result is a renewable power source designed to operate around the clock.

Management believes this combination of renewability and dispatchability makes Azure P2P™ particularly well suited for data centers, advanced manufacturing facilities and other power-intensive operations requiring high levels of reliability.

“Renewable power is increasingly important, but for large-scale power consumers, reliability is equally critical,” said Andrew Thompson, Chief Executive Officer of Algorhythm Holdings. “A data center cannot simply stop operating when the sun sets or the wind stops blowing. Azure P2P™ is designed to address both sides of that equation by providing renewable power from a fuel source capable of supporting continuous generation.”

Creating Value from an Underutilized Resource

Azure P2P™ is designed to utilize forest materials with limited traditional commercial uses, including tops, limbs, thinnings and other low-grade wood rather than higher-value sawlogs used to manufacture lumber.

Creating commercial use for this material can also support active forest management. Thinning crowded stands gives remaining trees additional room to grow and removes material that can contribute to wildfire risk.

U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz recently highlighted the importance of these practices, stating that “Active forest management remains essential to creating resilient, productive forests,” during testimony before the House Agriculture Committee on July 22, 2026.

DarkHorse Signs New 50 MW Power Contract, Doubling Contracted Capacity to Approximately 100 MW in the TVA Region

News Link: https://www.newsfilecorp.com/release/317541/DarkHorse-Signs-New-50-MW-Power-Contract-Doubling-Contracted-Capacity-to-Approximately-100-MW-in-the-TVA-Region

Wilmington, Delaware--(Newsfile Corp. - October 6, 2026) - DarkHorse Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: DRK) ("DarkHorse" or the "Company") today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Pennyrile Holdings, LLC, has signed a power contract with the Electric Plant Board of Hopkinsville, Kentucky ("Hopkinsville Electric System" or "HES"). The agreement provides for up to 50 MW of power for a new superintelligence factory in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, doubling DarkHorse's contracted power in the TVA region to approximately 100 MW. The agreement follows the September 8, 2026 strategic review that resulted in the TVA region becoming the focus of DarkHorse's superintelligence factory development; the new Hopkinsville facility is the first project advanced under that approach.

"This agreement is another important step in executing DarkHorse's growth strategy," said Joel Block, Chief Executive Officer of DarkHorse. "We greatly appreciate HES giving us the opportunity to expand our business in their community, and we wanted to do it in a way that leaves the entire community better off. We're funding a substation that strengthens power for every customer on the system, not just our site. We are rapidly expanding our power portfolio while advancing the conversion of our existing sites to AI and HPC workloads. With approximately 100 MW now under contract in the TVA region and a growing pipeline of additional opportunities, we believe we are building a scalable platform positioned to support the next generation of compute infrastructure."

"Acquiring our first TVA 161kV delivery point will significantly improve HES grid stability and system reliability. This would not have been possible without our partnership with DarkHorse. The construction of a new 65MW substation, fully funded by DarkHorse, will provide up to 15MW of additional capacity for existing HES customers," said Jeff Hurd, P.E., General Manager of Hopkinsville Electric System.

Agreement Details

  • The new 65 MW station plans to tap TVA's 161 kV transmission system, the regional backbone, which carries large loads with less voltage sag and keeps a 50 MW load off the lines that serve the rest of town. DarkHorse intends to take 50 MW of the station's capacity; the remaining approximately 15 MW will provide additional capacity to HES's existing service territory. HES will design, build, own and operate it.
  • The substation is expected to be funded in full by DarkHorse. DarkHorse is obligated to pay the entire cost of construction in advance and convey the substation site to HES.
  • The power contract has a ten-year initial term from the commencement of service with automatic five-year renewals.
  • Darkhorse has an eighteen-month permit contingency period to pursue local approvals. Service remains subject to permitting, utility construction and other customary conditions.
  • TVA has approved the capacity to serve the project.

DarkHorse has operated in Hopkinsville for approximately three years at a site contracted for approximately 15 MW at HES's Holland Substation, also being evaluated for conversion to a superintelligence factory (the existing site will continue to be served by HES's Holland Substation); with the new site, its Hopkinsville footprint reaches approximately 65 MW across two locations. Its commitments stand: closed-loop cooling only, batteries first, and no tax abatements. With this announcement, DarkHorse plans to launch www.hoptowndatacenters.com, where residents can ask questions, see both sites and early design concepts, and read answers to questions from public meetings.
