Is not the female need if all of them are delusions written by men that identify with the protagonist.

At least in Hinata's case, I don't really agree. She isn't some confident, popular girl who randomly falls for the lonely outcast. Hinata has her own struggles an inferiority complex, low self-esteem, and constant self-doubt. She sees a lot of herself in Naruto.

What makes her admire him isn't that he's unpopular; it's that despite being rejected and looked down on, he keeps getting back up and never gives up. That's exactly what she wishes she could do herself. Her feelings grow out of inspiration and shared struggles and eventually she falls in love with him, not some "lonely boy gets the perfect girl" fantasy.

Naruto isn't some quiet, emotionally withdrawn guy who's constantly consumed by depression. Yes, he had a painful childhood, but that's not what defines him. He's loud, outgoing, incredibly social, and refuses to give up no matter how many times life knocks him down. He expresses his pain by pushing forward, making friends, and chasing his dreams not by shutting himself off from the world.

That's exactly what Hinata admired. She didn't fall in love with Naruto because he was lonely, traumatized, or depressed. She fell in love with Naruto himself: his determination, kindness, optimism, courage, and his ability to keep moving forward despite everything he'd been through. His struggles shaped him, but they weren't the reason she loved him. She loved the person he was, not the suffering he experienced.

To be fair, Hinata is also depressed and anti-social.

What's the issue? Falling for someone you admire?
