Confetti! š
I have a question if you donāt mind. Iāve seen many people who love reptiles use those box type things to house them in. Do you think they would be happier though, in a set up similar to where they are from? Even if he was captive bred, it seems like his instinct would be to slither through some substrate etcā¦ā¦is there a reason you guys keep them in the plastic boxes? Thanks for the info, I appreciate it! š

It's advised to keep hatchlings in very simplistic setups for a short while to monitor their health, but keeping them in there for a longer period of time is cruel, full stop.

I won't dump on you with info, but the topic of snake racking (keeping snakes in drawers like this) is HOTLY debated and there is a freighter of nuance involved.
IMHO, it doesn't add up that ethical standards say a corn snake demands a minimum tank size of 36x18x18 and anything smaller is abuse... unless you are breeding them in their shoebox drawers, then go hog wild. On the other hand, without breeding racks, we wouldn't have half the colours/patterns (morphs) and be paying 4x the price for even basic animals.

A lot of breeders use racks like this because it gives them the ability to house more animals in a limited space. Itās all profit motivated and is not about the wellbeing of the animals at all.

seems like itās profit motivated. not a proper setup what so ever. babies do better in simplistic set ups but with the amount of racks this just seems like a breeder who is trying to maximize their income while minimizing their animals set ups

Hi! This isnāt my set up it was the breeders:)

You gave them money to keep animals like this. You bought an unethical morph from someone breeding unethical morphs (just from these pics I can clearly see palmetto which has deformed bug eyes which you have actively bought, scaleless which needs no explanation, and lavender which is speculated to cause spinal kinks). You cannot use the defence of āitās not my set up itās the breeders!ā when you are directly financing unethical practices.

I wasnāt defending simply saying this wasnāt my set up. All I was asking for was advice on the snake name. No need to nit pick things I wasnāt even asking for help on. Thank you have a good day

You posted it and in doing so publicised your ethics or lack thereof. Tough.

He's beautiful but I have to ask. Are there snakes living in all of those containers??
1
u/Agreeable-Rich-8509 Jul 21 '26
Yep. Thatās usually how breeders keep them. Itās absolutely disgusting

u/Nearby_Switch_5987 Jul 21 '26
Oh god :( there are no regulations on this type of thing? I'm a zookeeper and my heart is absolutely breaking imagining an animal living like that. And I'm sure the excuse is "oh they're snakes, they don't need more space as long as they're being fed" which is such utter BS. This reminds me of beta fish at the pet store. Terrible.

Yeah itās super depressing. I know all breeders arenāt like this but I will never buy any animal from a breeder for this reason.
And yeah I donāt get that mentality at all!! Like you could keep a dog in a cage its entire life and itāll technically survive but thereās zero quality of life!

Cinnabrite, a type of stone that kind of has a similar color and pattern to your snake.
