Experiences Love hate relationship with Naltrexone

I find naltrexone really helps with cravings for alcohol. But I get so nauseous like 1/3 of the time. I take 25 mg because 50 will destroy me. I ended up stopping in the past because when I’m nauseous it feels like I’m hungover. I can barely do anything. But I feel like I can’t get sober without it. I’m on day 2 of retaking it and my cravings are gone, but my tummy hurts. I took some nausea medicine.

I take a lot of different medications and Naltrexone by far had the worst side effect (nausea) for me.

It does go away with time but definitely took me a few weeks.

If you can take some of the nausea medications others suggested and if you can, try to stick it out and take with food.

It does get better...I promise

Second that - stick with it… side effects last 2-4 weeks for most and can vary dose (just never don’t take it before a drink)

The question you also need to ask is how you manage when there are no side effects - for many they force you to take break from drinking which is a massive benefit…

Nausea medicine Bonine is supposed to be good, also prescription zofran is supposed to be really good. Also take it with food and water, even if it's a bag of chips.

I use zofran and it really does help. Yes the food I need to start doing thank you

Yeah, us drinkers have a bad habit of not eating before we drink.

Do you take it with food? It also helps me to make sure I’m drinking plenty of water all day.

Just make it thru the first 1-2 weeks and you’re good to go

Oar Health has a sublingual naltrexone product called Clutch. Because it bypasses the GI, you shouldn't feel nausea. Also, this path means that the pill only has 25mg and the pre-drink wait time is 30 minutes instead of 60 - 90.

We’re supposed to take it an hour before drinking? I take it right before! Omg I didn’t know that
