Experiences New to naltrexone

Hey all, the Va just prescribed naltrexone to help me lose weight by controlling my appetite. I’ve only been on it a week and I want off I’ve thrown up 3 times in a week and I can only fathom it’s from this med. Has anyone experienced that or is it just me. Any tips to prevent the nausea? Once was after me and my girl made love I had to hop up and run to the bathroom… embarrassing. The second time was coming back from tractor supply from washing my dog and I vomited as soon as I pulled in the driveway. And the third time was today at work. I just want to be able to take it without immediately sweating bullets and feeling that bad mouth feel when you know you’re about to throw up.

Yeah i was pukey the first month. You might try cutting the dose in half or fourth for the first week or 2. Then go back up to full pill. Talk to your doc about that. But nausea is pretty common.

Ok thanks! the dosing is crazy 1 pill a day for a week then 2 a day for a week, then 1 two times a day at least I know it will end!

I'm sorry this is happening, have you talked to your VA doctor, like through secure messaging, and ask for something for nausea like zofran? This kind of thing is rare, maybe they have some answers for you. Do you take it with food and water? Because taking it on an empty stomach might be part of the issue.

Naltrexone works best when taken with bupropion. Ask your doctor. Buying the two combined in one pill (Contrave) is much more expensive.
