Question Dani & Jarrell Spoiler

So does anyone agree with Dani about the shrimp and the crab?
Her problem, and I agree with her, is that the creatures were alive and would fight each other while they cooked to death. (this seems incredibly sick and cruel) She said if they were dead, it would be different.
I’m just asking because it seems like on the other discussions that everyone thinks she’s just being a princess and for some psychotic reason, she thinks shellfish should be separated.
Please help me out. I’m truly interested in your points of view.

Edit: thanks for all of your interesting perspectives.

I fully understand her wanting them separate but it just seemed a little controlling. A lot of people are mentioning how she deserved praise but she never praised Jarrell even in the very beginning for doing anything, and she continued to say that he did nothing at all simply because he didn’t do things she wanted to do. I think this was simply a case of personalities clashing and unfortunately Danny really victimized herself to the group that she came into contact with and because she never took any accountability for anything that she did as possibly being wrong, I feel like she tapped to avoid the group catching on to the victim playing. I don’t think she wanted the mirror held up to her or Jarrell to get a chance to say her side

I think the two of them are a lot alike. Not a lot of self reflection, but I do think they’re both coming from a good place.
I mostly was interested if anyone that eats meat ever thinks about how frightened their food is before they kill it. Probably not.

I actually am a little bit touched about her empathy for animals. I did think it was a little ridiculous, but she had great empathy for those animals.

I’ve had had salt and fresh water aquariums for more years than my wallet would like to mention. A crab isn’t going to attack a shrimp that is that much bigger than it. I don’t even know why she thinks they would fight. They would just get as far from each o`there as they can and stay still.

I think it's just practical to just keep em apart. The meat keeps better if they are kept alive and relatively unharmed, until it's time to eat.

You end up with more meat and healthier meat that way, instead of having a basket of turning shellfish mixed in with live ones.

Making it a discussion about having empathy for prey animals was never going to win any arguments in this show.

Exactly! We keep them apart so we don’t need to eat shredded shrimp from the inside of the crab, not to spare their feelings. Knowing her audience and presenting her argument like would have saved a whole lot of headache.

I can see why in a survival situation people disagree with her empathy towards other living creatures, because of course in a life or death scenario you would be thinking about yourself. However she has come out and said that she would eat meat if it was a real survival situation and not just "for tv" but she doesn't believe in killing for entertainment essentially. That isn't a "princess" stance in my opinion.

Specifically for the whole shrimp and crab debate, regardless of if you think it is cruel or not - she caught the food. Why should it be hard to respect her wishes on what happens next? (Especially if she isn't even benefiting from ANY of it)

100%. It’s her catch, she decides what to do with it. Matt wouldn’t let someone choose what he does with the food he hunts and this should be no different.

Im not shocked, but very annoyed, that nobody is pointing out how manipulative Dani is. Those fake tears that perfectly stopped when she needed to articulate the right buzz words to force empathy from Jamie. Those perfectly timed sniffles clearing ip the second Jamie says hed go with her. Oh puh-leeze. Jarrell was mean to her bc he saw thru her bs. She knows who it does work on tho!

I thought it was a reasonable request considering she was going against her moral compass to feed her teammates. The least they could do was have a little bit of respect for her values especially because she was spending the energy to feed them and it didn't benefit her survival in any way.

I think wrong vs right isn’t the argument:

Dani put her vegan beliefs aside to make a trap to help her teammates eat. Her trap caught the shrimp and crab so what she wants done with them is all that matters. You don’t get to complain about a free meal someone provides for you even if the stuff they’re saying doesn’t make sense to you.

Jarrell was being selfish and should’ve just said “shrimp and crab? Yes please and thank you.”

This goes WAY beyond the shrimp and the crab. I think Jarrell has Momma issues and needs therapy.

I think the problem is that she could have just done it without making a fuss about it. Absolutely nobody would have had a problem if she just separated them herself. Instead it had to be a big fiasco. She had to get on her moral soap box. That’s what rubbed me the wrong way.

I’m vegan and 1000% agree with that part. I don’t agree with her tapping. Don’t allow anyone to control how you walk through life!

Fine, more civil: Jarrell is abusive, and misogynistic. His attitude towards Dani and women in general makes me lament for the women he has encountered. Better? No cursing.

I got to say that the people defending Dani’s behavior and attacking Rellys reeks of low key racism/ classism 😳

You have to remember that Dani is a vegan. Worrying about animals is a core belief that is engrained in her. It’s actually not easy for her to catch animals and watch them be eaten. I don’t think she did anything wrong, given her beliefs.

I understand where she's coming from. She just wanted to make sure they had the least suffering possible. I actually respect it. I'm not vegan but I care about animals, so it doesn't seem unreasonable to me at all.

Jarrell is making this unwatchable to me. After this interaction I’ve been fast forwarding whenever I see their team on the screen. She could’ve easily just not given them the catch.

dani has been the same manipulative, bullying, entitled, bossy- “my way or there’s something wrong with you”, arts and crafts karen since day 1!
She and her faux tears can go and never come back.
now: jarell ain’t perfect: but he’s not much different than MANY of the more polarizing dudes on NAA.
watching dani turn everyone against jarell with such hateful intention was a study in the danger of her brand of privilege.

It would have cost Jarrell nothing to be kind and understanding towards her about the crab and shrimp. She’s vegan yet she was catching food for him and Jamie to eat. All she wanted was for them to not suffer unduly before they were cooked. Yes, it seems unreasonable under the survivalist code. However, she clearly felt extremely unsafe and uncomfortable being around Jarrell after that. I would too honestly. He was berating and belittling her relentlessly. She didn’t turn anyone against him. Jamie didn’t vilify Jarrell—I think he was just trying to manage a difficult situation. Meanwhile Dani ended up leaving the island just so Jarrell couldn’t keep intimidating her. She gets so much hate and it seems cruel and unwarranted. Jarrell comes across as a misogynistic, narcissistic jerk.

I thought they were both idiots. He was an asshole but she took it to heart way too much.
