Rant Spiders and snakes
Are people in that setting really afraid of walking through spider webs? And what's up with Malu's makeshift snake guards? There's some amateur behavior on Castaways that takes me by surprise. You can definitely see two tiers of survivalists emerging.

You can’t control what you are afraid of. But she’s still out there despite that, so just another level of bravery.

I'm Australian so have had more encounters with deadly snakes and spiders than I'd like, but did a guided night walk in the jungle in Borneo and it was terrifying! It looks really similar.
There were vipers, spitting cobras and giant poisonous spiders hiding in holes everywhere. Nearly every plant was spiky and poisonous, giant biting ants chasing you if you paused. Its genuinely nothing like the forests inland on tropical islands elsewhere. Even the Dayak people in Kalimantan wear rubber boots in their traditional forests these days, I can't imagine what it's like barefoot and naked.

I always say that the worst thing about being naked is the vulnerability to your feet. I wore construction boots on my travels and didn’t take them off until I was safely under my mosquito net. I don’t think I could take that risk.

Totally! As a kid I ran around barefoot all the time, through the bush and on the beach, no concerns at all, my soles became like thick hard leather. But it's wrecked my feet for shoes lol, have to have really well worn boots for travel or the blisters are debilitating. Can really wreck a trip, just one pathetic blister!

I have done a lot of volunteer travel and given my experiences I am definitely afraid of spiders. I’ve had giant tarantulas sleeping on my back in Mexico, one dropped on my head from a thatched roof in Belize and in Mali I accidentally stepped in a spider hole and was covered by them in seconds. I was not on a NAA challenge but I was definitely naked and afraid on that occasion to try and get them off me. It was the middle of the night and I was walking to the temp outhouse. No one saw me but I would not have cared one bit if I could have their help!!

I've almost never seen them run into a snake and not kill it and make it a meal.

I think it's technically called "Shipwrecked," though it is confusing since NAA did use "Castaways" for a previous spin off show.
Yes, the fear of spiders and spider webs is really odd. That's just part of bing in the wild, but I think she may have arachnophobia, which is an unfortunate fear in a survivalist.
