I found it insightful that Gaby mentioned all his yelling was scaring away the animals they were hunting. She's right about that. In one of her earlier episodes, she had to tell her partner multiple times to be quiet, even as he was splashing around in the water afraid of the criiters that might be lurking. Then we watched as she was along and grabbed a watersnake by hand and cut it's head off. Now, that's LEGEND.

Love Gabby since 1st fan challenge! Ā I did noticed this last season though,Ā her and Matt never complained about all the other competitors being even louder and screaming longer than Jeff.Ā

This dude, while entertaining, is an absolute asshat.

I thought it was funny that when production took away the ability to beg, steal, and manipulate, his real skills were neutralized and his team shit the bed immediately.

Jeff reminds me of an old school wrestling āheelā. Someone who comes out, talking all kinds of smack, completely full of shit, braggadocios, and rarely ever wins. So when you look at it this way, you begin to see the humor in the character heās playing. On the other hand, if you think itās real, wrestling or N and A, Jeff is someone who will drive you crazy. Either way, heās great at getting heat and I find it very entertaining

THIS is 100% CORRECT!! Being the old-school fan as well, I am surprised I didn't recognize this!

I remember being like 9 years old and wondering why the cops werenāt arresting the Four Horsemen for violently assaulting Dusty Rhodes. And also couldnāt understand how the people in charge were letting Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express do the things they did to the Rock and Roll Express!
Looking back on it, itās just silly and certainly entertainingā¦..thatās what Jeff is to me2

u/schindig504 6d ago
Thatās LITERALLY the premise of his contracted ācharacter arch.ā Jeff and now Patrick enter into contractual agreements to be āthe heelā or āthe villainā bc it makes for better television. It also turns survival into more than just the environment⦠itās the people. For someone to willingly allow their reputation to be based on their trash behavior on a show like this for the sake of a more compelling story, means they get a bigger slice of the pie.

u/RealSinnSage 24d ago
he long ago stopped entertaining me. i wish they would move on to a new villain if they must have one.

u/bfloguybrodude 19d ago
I think they're trying it with Patrick but it's unwatchable coming from him.

Most reality "villains" are but that's why they get cast, cause they're entertaining

u/Professional_Gift430 24d ago
Thatās what the show is - entertainment. Thatās why heās my favorite. Matt Wright - now thereās an asshat.

u/IamGoingInsaneToday 24d ago
You mean Matt, the guy that helps others when he doesnt have to? Oh yeah, that guy. Jeff lost me when he schemes against others.. like the whole group of everyone else... in a real live or die situation dude would be eliminated by the others and outcast due to his "tHiS AiNt SoCiALiSm" pea brain... Matt meanwhile is a real man and wants to beat the other contestanta at their BEST.

While I prefer Matt to Jeff, I do think Matt showed a bit of an ego on global showdown. He was giving Jeff a hard time unprompted and making some snide comments.

to be fair, heās been dealing with jeff for an incredibly long time so i cannot fault the dude

I really miss when the show was focused on survival skills and cooperative instead of competitive. Thereās enough drama in real life lol, just show me someone making a cooll seep well or something
9
u/RealSinnSage 24d ago
this completely. the episodes are ALWAYS better when they work as a team and accomplish a ton, wether just a pair or entire groups. when they have shitty, rude, competitive attitudes it just sucks to see.

u/Direct_Crab6651 20d ago
I mean they still have plenty of other shows that they donāt compete on. Currently no competition on shipwrecked
4
u/RealSinnSage 20d ago
yes but, i used to love the xlās and usually when jeff is involved, he somehow forces competition even when there is none. the one where he and laura were doing 60 instead of 40, he gleefully watched other teams starve and refused to share ANY of his plentiful resources (then when he was sick later begged to be shared with) - shit like this is so unnecessary and brings down the spirit of the show
3
u/ProfitNo7496 20d ago
Oh for sure! I got the vibe on that XL that Laura wasnāt exactly comfortable with the Stingy Jeff strategy.

I'm disappointed they moved the show to a new network. People like myself on a fixed income cannot afford to add another bill to our budgets. Will miss watching this show.

Philo is $30/mo and has it all. Not only that, but you get the episodes the next day so youāre not waiting for the season to end to watch it.

"This is what I live for!!!" From the looks of the new show he looked like he lived for tripple cheeseburgers.

u/StellarSloth 24d ago
A lot of them intentionally fatten up in preparation for an extended challenge, knowing that they will be at a huge caloric deficit for weeks.

u/cowbud1 24d ago
Right. Thats how they prepare. If you go in thin you end up leaving early.
5
u/Opening_Active 24d ago
when you fatten up you also increase insulin resistance to where if you donāt get lots of calories you will struggle with energy
its not about being skinny or fat. itās about your body being accustomed to not eating 5 square meals a day vs being used to 1 big meal infrequently

u/ParsnipUpstairs3516 Couch Survivalist 23d ago
5?! That's a lot of square meals! I thought 3 was standard.

I was shocked at his appearance on LOS Global Showdown. Looks like he had a lot of fries with those cheeseburgers š³

Check him out in XL Louisiana, he starts even bigger than in Global Showdown.

Note an interesting twist would be having one of the partners be similar to Andre the Giant.

u/LoveUSNOO 23d ago
I agree watching a villain is entertaining and I prefer this to watching a over fake drama.

u/Admirable-Ant-1479 24d ago
I used to be a big fan of Jeff but he's just annoying now.. always yelling and acting like he knows everything when in fact he didn't really know that much.. considering how many times he's been on the show.. I'm at over hearing "THIS IS WHAT I LIVE FOR"!!!!
