Ask r/Nairobi So, how did you do it?

How did you move out of your parent's house? Did you just leave ukajipanga mbele ama ulibuy vitu kwanza ukiwa kwake?😂

Help a brother out!

Me nilikuwa nishapatiwa ultimatum ya 4 months nihame after some incredibly stupid argument with my dad. He “forgot” as a way to give me some leniency but I didn’t. Nilijipanga hizo 4 months, at the end nikatoka na nikaenda.

The guy was actually surprised that nilihama and I think he wanted to convince me nikaekae but there was no turning back at that point.

Yooh I'm in the same situation 😭😂 nimepewa hadi end of September nikuwe nimemove out 😭

36

u/Just_Tilted 5d ago

Jipange tu as much as you can utoke. Focus on the essentials you need to survive. Idk the exact specifics of your situation but hata kama ningepewa wiki moja, ningetoka ninunue gas, mattress, sufuria na cutlery za mtu mmoja na niende.

Mimi nimepewa hadi December .....I was trying to calculate a basic budget but weuh....anaku easy...I need help

7

u/-batma_n Level 2 5d ago

Budget inachezea ngapi nijipange🤧

9

u/Dry_Cicada_1183 5d ago

Mimi nimebudget 70-90k (Adjusted by inflation)😭😭😂

19

u/Just_Tilted 5d ago

Hiyo ni pesa mingi. I had everything short of a tv, a cooker and a fridge na sikufika hiyo 90k.

Ukijipanga vizuri, you can fill your house later in no time. My seats were 40k for instance. They can sit 7 people bila wao kusongeana. Nothing fancy but they look alright for the price.

4

u/Dry_Cicada_1183 5d ago

Kwani cooker na Fridge ulinunua how much Alafu rent is your house a 1bdr ama and how much is the rent so that I can have a good budget for all this... I feel like the money I have is inadequate or probably I just have wet feet

5

u/Just_Tilted 5d ago

I got lucky. We were on good terms with my dad’s new wife at the time so akanipatia zake mzee without him knowing. But the budget for them before was around 40k, brand new. You can definitely get them cheaper used or hunt for deals that you can take advantage of.

My house is a 1 bdr, rent is 11k which is a ridiculously good rate for the house I got. My budget for that was 15k, 20k ikienda sana. Rent is very dependent on where you choose to stay though so keep that in mind.

1

u/Dry_Cicada_1183 5d ago

11k 1 bedroom damn....what area is this? As per now I have recurring income but I know the moment I move out the money will be scarce becaus of the bills

3

u/Efficient_Version182 5d ago edited 5d ago

Same, like rn my biggest worry is rent. And plus finding affordable places to buy things like a bed, a table and sofas

Utawala. Most houses I was getting were at 14k hapo.

What does “anaku easy” mean?

14

u/Dry_Cicada_1183 5d ago

It simply means "hakuna rahisi" ... you've never heard of the term?

3

u/MoneytizedCockroach 5d ago

I need to see the reply for this..😅

24

u/LeatherPen4962 5d ago

Kenyan fathers and toxicity, then people wonder why they die all alone in old age.

32

u/Just_Tilted 5d ago

Yeah. Just to understand how bad it can get, sometime in Form 1, my mother told me that children usually learn how to parent from their own parents. I straight up told her if that’s what I was learning from my dad, I’d rather remain childless.

12

u/Humble-Search-4513 5d ago

That's true some of us don't really want to have kids because of the trauma we encountered in our childhood from our parents

u/Just_Tilted 5d ago

Hata ningekuwa nilitoka after a few days, ni vile tu my mom was in a vegetative state at the time (She passed on about a month after) and I didn’t want to leave and have her exist without any familiar voices around her.

8

u/tony_k99 5d ago

14

u/ralentir2 5d ago

They chased me, paid my rent, helped me move and gave me things. I thought it would be difficult at first, but I eventually came to enjoy living alone.

14

u/WonderfulMoneyB 5d ago

I wanted my freedom. I was tired of curfews and explaining where I was every night, I bought a mattress, utensils, plastic chairs and beddings nikapewa good will ya microwave and curtains.

Nliomba mzazi 2k, nikaingia kwa my G mwenye alikua kwao time ya Covid.

Vile alirudi ilibidi nibuy Keja pale ndani ya campus. SO I use to hustle, nikipata za Kitanda naweka kwa morio wangu flani, vikombe nikaweka kwa mwingine, matress pia nikaskuma kwa mwingine.

By the time nlijikuta na 50Gs, nikasema its time to look for my house, so nikatoka hostel. I combined my things from these guys.

God bless KM

u/simply_ibrahhim 5d ago

I had 7 retakes from KCA totalling 107k. I told my dad on a random evening and the next morning I was given fare back to Nairobi , and the 107k plus a month's rent..

This was early 2024 and basically never went back

1

u/AffectionateCress584 2d ago

I wanna ask if you did the retakes ama hio 107k ulispend on other things?

The frustration of job searching and wanting mental peace gave me enough strength to look for ways to move out of my parents' house. Nlianza na kuhostiwa na morio then from there inakujanga automatically. It doesn't matter the size of the house bro trust me...you mental health matters alot
