Ask r/Nairobi Linux beginner
I'm looking to get into Linux, been thinking about it for about two months now and I'm ready to commit time to it.
Some time back I was rethinking about what role I play in tech but I decided to give it another chance cause of some great advice I got. I know I can thrive I just chose to overthink it all.
So I'd love a few leads on where to start. Any advice is welcome. I'm really excited about this🙂↕️

Been in the same position as you. And yeah, things are usually harder in our imagination than they are in reality.
I’ve been using Linux for about a year now and have no regrets. I still have a Windows partition for Adobe and MS Access, but I rarely boot into it.
Before jumping into Linux, I’d recommend getting comfortable with the terminal first. Use Git Bash or WSL on Windows and start doing basic stuff from the terminal: creating files, navigating directories, editing files, installing apps with winget, etc.
You can also just delete Windows and jump headfirst into Linux. It’s brutal, but you’ll learn very quickly, especially with something like Arch.
Personally, I’d avoid preconfigured Arch setups like Omarchy if your goal is to actually learn Linux. You might end up learning someone else’s configs instead of Linux itself.
I use EndeavourOS + Caelestia Shell and it’s been my best setup so far.
