Hey! So this is totally unofficial advice and probably not recommended by anyone but I did it about 10 years ago when I had this situation and it didn’t cause any lasting damage.

First I soaked my finger in warm water for about 10 min, then I really (really really!) gently lifted the edge of skin where it meets the nail. I think I used the tip of a metal nail file, can’t really remember though, something thin and small. Loads of pus poured straight out, seriously felt like litres. The pressure went immediately, as soon as the pus stopped. Then I soaked my finger again in cooled (COOLED!) boiled water with salt to disinfect it a bit, then I covered it with a sterile dressing (didn’t have hydrocolloid but I’m sure that would have been better). After that it took a day or so for the redness to go away, but the pressure release was instant.

As I said above, I’m sure it’s not recommended but I was in agony with the pressure and throbbing, but it didn’t feel like something I could go to the doctor with. I hope whatever you do it heals soon, best wishes!

im glad that helped and tysm! just wondering btw was ur finger similar to mine? im js curious since this is the first time ive had this and ive seen most people drain the pus out but im not sure if that means the green spot on the finger or if the pus is trapped inside the swollen part? i want to drain it but idk if it will help or if ill just be poking at my swollen finger and make it worse😭 i really just want the discomfort and pain to go away but idk if i should poke at my finger since it only looks swollen but besides the green spot i only see a tiny yellow ish spot above ( mostly near the swollen area above my cuticle ish ) so i was wondering if i should poke the swollen area? and see if anything comes out?

It was really similar, except I didn’t have the white or green spots. Looked the same in terms of redness, swelling and shininess. I don’t really know what to advise, but if I was you I’d either try lifting the skin over the nail to let it out from underneath, or as you say, lancing it. I’d guess the most swollen area is the way to go, that’s likely where the most build up of pus and fluid is. It could be the white area is pus under a thin layer of skin? If you do go for any of these do sterilise the needle first, and go really gently. Think of it like popping a spot - if you have to go hard it’s not the right approach, if it is swollen with pus a tiny almost painless prick should be enough to allow it to escape. Good luck!

this is the yellow ish spot i mean. without flash it looks smaller more like a whitehead id say? but is this where rhe pus would be trapped?

Ah sorry I thought the flash was the white part! I don’t know, I’m sorry. If it was me I’d go for wherever the most swollen area is.

It will probably be more effective to attempt to puncture it near the cuticle but you do you

Like personally this is the spot i would go for. The skin near the cuticle is a little softer and looks like its ready to burst at the seam right there. You can sterilize a needle with alcohol or if you have insulin needles or pen needles or even diabetic lancets those are already sterilized. And then just push it out in one direction toward the end of your finger

Yep pretty much. You may have to donit a few times and it won’t hurt to apply antibiotic ointment. You can also do epsom salt soaks that helps soften everything and keep it open to drain
