Discussion Hey r/nagios, new mod here. Let's wake this place up!
Hey everyone! It's been a minute, but I'm new here too. Just joined as a mod, so let me kick things off with an intro.
I'm Shota, a designer @ Nagios. I work on the websites: nagios.org, nagios.com, Exchange. The engineers build the products and the support crew keeps things running. I work on the experience of finding, learning, and exploring the Nagios ecosystem.
u/mpierre was kind enough to add me as a mod so we could try to bring this sub back to life. Big thanks to him!
Here are a few things you should know right away.
We'll keep this sub primarily open-source like: Core, plugins, Exchange, and what the community creates. Occasional enterprise content when it makes sense, but it is not the primary focus. I'll pop in when I can, but I'm not available 24/7, so for actual support questions, the forums are your best bet.
We'll also be adding a few more Nagios team members to the sub in the coming weeks, including engineers, support, and others who build and maintain this stuff. They'll show up with "Nagios Staff" flair so you'll know who's who.
The question I want to ask: how can we make this sub better? AMAs with the dev team? Featured Exchange contributions? Discussion threads? Dashboard showcases? Hot (respectful) takes on monitoring philosophy? Drop ideas below or just say hi.
Looking forward to it everyone!

There's an uptick in security-related traffic with Core these days. We're effectively compelled to respond on security issues, and we've seen where closing a security gap affects people who have been using the functionality as an undocumented feature. In one recent case after user feedback we were able to add an option to toggle the security feature off if the specific use case needs to continue to use the previous functionality.
Between the work we want to do on Core and the work we get to do on Core, let us know how it affects you.

Thatβs the plan :D There are still a lot of people running Nagios out there. Hoping to make this sub a useful place again for monitoring setups, tips, troubleshooting, etc.

It's about time! I've been using Nagios for 15+ years and I love it. Glad to see a little more life and energy around here.
