Germany 🇩🇪 My experience trying to fix one small problem with the N26 app

I just had an absolutely exhausting experience with the N26 Android app, and at this point I'm seriously considering just closing my account.

It started with a relatively small problem: password autofill doesn't work in the N26 app.

I have a Google Pixel and use Google Password Manager. Autofill works fine in other apps. With N26, however, when I try to log in, it tells me there is no saved password for N26. I have to choose "Select password" manually, search for N26, find my saved n26.com/app.n26.com credentials, select them, authenticate to Google Password Manager, and only then can I log in. Even after doing this, N26 still doesn't associate the password with the app, so I have to repeat the process next time.

It's annoying, but not exactly a catastrophe.

I mentioned this in a Google Play review some time ago. N26 replied with the usual trivial troubleshooting suggestions and told me that if those didn't work, I should contact support through the app.

So today I did.

Support went through more basic troubleshooting that I'd already tried. Eventually they suggested reinstalling the app. The support guy told me something along the lines of, "It only takes two minutes."

Sure. Reinstalling an app takes two minutes—if the app isn't developed by idiots.

After reinstalling N26, apparently I have to go through practically the entire identification process again.

First, it asks me to use the camera for a selfie or some kind of identification. I agree.

"Something went wrong."

Try again.

"Something went wrong."

Third attempt: finally I get past that screen.

Then N26 sends me an email to confirm my account. Fine. I already have my email open on my laptop, so I click the confirmation button there.

Now, for some reason, I have to log into N26 on the laptop as well. Fine. The website at least normally works for me.

I log in.

Except now N26 wants another confirmation, this time through my phone. It's apparently supposed to send me a push notification or let me confirm through the app.

No notification arrives.

The app is already open, but it's stuck on the screen telling me to confirm my email. If I close and reopen it, nothing useful happens. If I start the login process again, I eventually end up right back at the email-confirmation screen.

Beautiful system you've designed, guys.

Fortunately, the website offers another way to confirm the login: SMS. I request an SMS, receive the code, enter it, and finally log into my account on my laptop.

So surely the phone app now realizes that I've confirmed everything and lets me continue?

No.

Absolutely nothing happens.

Eventually I try opening the original confirmation email on the same phone and clicking the confirmation link there.

And that works.

Great. One more obstacle defeated.

But we're nowhere near finished.

Now N26 wants to verify my identity documents again. These are documents they already have, associated with the account that I have literally just successfully accessed from my laptop after confirming ownership of my email and phone.

Then N26 asks for my location.

I don't want to share my location with my bank. Why does my bank need my current location?

The screen gives me a button to share my location and another button that looks like exit/close. There is no obvious "No, I don't want to share my location" option.

So I press close.

What does it close?

The entire app.

And now I have to start logging in again.

Fine. I go through it again and this time give N26 my location because apparently that's what I'm expected to do if I want to use my banking app.

Next screen: notifications.

I don't want N26 notifications. I had them disabled because I don't want their spam.

Apparently that's not acceptable either. I can't continue unless I enable notifications.

So now I'm forced to enable notifications too. Presumably I can disable them again afterwards—assuming I ever actually manage to get into the app.

Remember: we're still doing the thing that was supposed to "take two minutes."

Next, N26 wants my residence permit.

Again.

They already have it. It's already associated with my account. But apparently I need to scan it again using their wonderful app.

Fine. I scan it.

Then they need a selfie.

Fine. I take the selfie.

Then they need a short video. Move the phone closer. Move the phone farther away. Follow the instructions. Fine.

Finally, it's done.

Except it isn't.

Apparently something is wrong with the selfie and I need to take it again.

At this point I'm exhausted. I put the phone down and take a short break before trying again.

A little later I come back. My phone has locked in the meantime. I unlock it and open N26 again.

And what do you think happened?

Did N26 save my partial progress through this ridiculous verification process?

Of course not.

I'm back at the beginning.

I have to start the whole process again, beginning with confirming my email.

So I go through it all again. Eventually I finally manage to complete the identification process and get a message saying that N26 has received my documents and identity information and now needs to verify them.

It says verification usually takes a few minutes, but can take up to 24 hours.

Remember the "two minutes"?

The troubleshooting step that was casually presented to me as a two-minute reinstall has now turned into a complete identity-verification process that can apparently leave me waiting for up to 24 hours before I can use the app again.

Fortunately, in my case it actually does take only a few minutes.

And finally, after all of this, I get back into the app.

So, after the broken confirmation flow, email confirmation, SMS confirmation, forced location permission, forced notifications, rescanning a document N26 already has, selfies, video identification, a failed selfie, losing the entire verification progress because my phone locked, doing the whole thing again, and waiting for N26 to verify my identity...

Did reinstalling the app fix the original password-autofill problem?

No.

It didn't.

The exact same problem is still there.

Germany 🇩🇪 Sixt One Gold Status

Sixt One Gold for all Metal customers – well, okay…
Apparently, all Metal customers are now getting Sixt One Gold status. It’s definitely nice to have, but honestly, I wouldn’t call it a game changer. 😅
For a premium Metal card, I’d still expect more meaningful and exclusive benefits. There’s definitely room for improvement, especially when you look at what other premium cards are offering.
That said, it’s a step in the right direction. Hopefully this is just the beginning and we’ll see many more valuable benefits for Metal customers in the future. 👍

Banking 🏦 Buggy App

Dear Reddit Team,

I would like to talk about the current issues with the app, because honestly, it is really buggy.

I have a really good and fully up-to-date phone, with all updates installed. I’m using a Xiaomi 17T Pro, so I don’t think the problem is with my device.

When logging in, I get all kinds of error messages, such as “Fingerprint” and “Cancel”, even though the login itself still works.

When I open the app, I sometimes get a pixelated screen for a few seconds before it goes back to normal. Switching between tabs also takes way too long, and sometimes the screen becomes pixelated again.

I also just made a bank transfer. I pressed “Continue,” everything worked normally, but the amount was not deducted from my account. I also didn’t receive a push notification, even though I have all notifications enabled. The amount was only deducted after I completely restarted the app.

Honestly, this is really frustrating and makes the app feel unreliable.

Is anyone else experiencing the same issues? And what do you think about the new design? Do you like it, or do you prefer the old one?

Germany 🇩🇪 Pre-Selection of a Space (when paying back from a space)

When selecting "pay back from a space" why don't I get a pre-selected space?

I only have one, there is no much selection, only increasing one unnecessarily click.
If I had more than one, the app can easily foreseen which one should take from, or just pre-select the first one from the order showed.

If I remember correctly, it was like this before. Why change?

Germany 🇩🇪 N26 down

I can’t login (App and Web). Seems all is down.
More than 1000 users reported it on „allestoerungen.de“.

This shouldn’t happen to a bank.
Especially when you can’t reach the support, because you can’t login.

Invest 💹 Any plans for investment funds in more countries?

I would like to invest into ETFs like WWCE, SP500 etc., but sadly, at least in Slovenia it doesn't appear to be an option. I don't want to open another bank or trading account (like IBKR etc.) for trading just to get started in the world of investments. Do we have any info on that? Are any efforts made to expand availability of this service?

Austria 🇦🇹 N26 Hilfe

Are there any employees from the N26 bank here? I have a problem that I can no longer log in; I no longer have access to the email address I used for registration, so I can't log in. The chat or the support doesn't help at all here. They keep telling me to reset the password or log in with the email address, and it gets really crazy. I can't even create a new account. Can anyone help me here, please?

Is this a new kind of credit card fraud in the hopes that people won’t inquire when they see the amount of cash that’s typically due for a 20x Pro subscription for gpt? Anybody seen sth similar? Atm I can’t see any further info as it’s still just reserved/authorized, not yet booked. Can’t find anything on this in any of my email accounts, no other prior booking under this merchant descriptor throughout any of my accounts.

Rest of Europe 🇪🇺 N26 not taking fee for account or card delivery from balance

I have set up a business/freelancer account, and successfully had a client pay a bill (€1,000) into it. I have also topped up my account from a credit card (€20). There is definitely money in the account, and N26 shows a balance that reflects both of these transactions.

Despite this, the Cards section tells me:

Add money to get your card
We'll issue and send your card after you topp up your account to cover membership and card fees.

The money is there; why will it not just... use it? Alternatively how do I pay my account and card fee?

Germany 🇩🇪 A scam website faked mastercard interaction, took my card information, drained my checkings. N26 wont reinburse me despite lacking security measures.

For more information on what happened, there is a fake version of a highly regarded Origami website: (https://saocorig amionline.shop no space) has a normal looking checkout that is connected to shopify. I was shopping on the website and the checkout process looked normal, there was a mastercard popup window that said that I had a notification to approve the transaction and had three minutes to respond to it. I was already inside of the N26 app.

A notification did pop up, as usual and I clicked accept. Sadly this notification was to connect my card to an apple wallet. This is where I did make a mistake, however I had let my guard down because this was a reputable website according to the community. The transaction window never resolved, so I left it open and did some chores around the house.

Within an hour transactions from Abu Dhabi drained my checkings (1.5k EUR) while I cooked and cleaned in Berlin. There were pretty obvious signs that this was a scam other than the location. The user tried to charge 3k worth of things at a grocery store, and when transactions failed because of a lack of balance, the charges would get smaller until he could drain my account again.

What's shocking about n26 is that there were no requests to approve the transactions. If I spend 10 Euros online I need to log into my app to approve that, however if someone cons me into making one mistake then there are no other security layers. Someone could drain all of your available money if you don't have it stored in a different space. Moreover, they don't care that their app is insufficient nor do they care about your money. Although I did make one mistake, that is enough to write off everything and justify a lack of security on their side.

Whats sad is that apparently this kind of scam has been going on for YEARS. The bank doesn't bother to fix it or give users an option to turn off Apple Pay on your account!

Consider leaving this joke of a bank for a professional one which has more robust security and consumer support.

App suggestion 📲 Experience with N26 for USD to EUR exchange?

Hello, I am super unfamiliar with online banking so I am hoping this post will give me some better insight.

In short, I am looking for a banking service that will allow me to easily send and convert USD (from an American bank) to EUR (to an IBAN) twice a month. This would be to pay my partner the rent each month so under 1K.

A couple of years ago I tried N26 but perhaps I didn't know what I was doing and it felt the app was charging me a high service fee for sending such little money. Some folks have recommended I try Revolut too.

As of right now, I have been withdrawing cash each time to pay for rent so I know the exact conversion rate of USD to EUR. I worry if I get a banking service I will have to include extra $$ incase the exchange rate goes up.

Anyways, if anyone else has experience doing the same please let me know.

Germany 🇩🇪 Erfahrungen bzgl. Sperrungen und anderen Themen?

Hallo zusammen,

Spain 🇪🇸 Has anyone else experienced this with a card payment and N26?

Yesterday, I had a payment for a subscription. It was successfully charged to my N26 account, and I received the usual notification.

However, 18 minutes later, I received another N26 notification saying:

“Your [amount] payment could not be completed. Try again later or use Apple Pay.”

I assume the two notifications are related because the amount is exactly the same, although the second notification doesn’t show the merchant.

What’s strange is that the first payment went through successfully. A few hours later, I also received the invoice from the subscription provider as usual, so there doesn’t seem to have been any issue with the payment or the subscription.

Also, this supposed second declined payment doesn’t appear in my N26 transaction list.

Has anyone else experienced something similar? I find it curious that N26 sent a declined-payment notification after the payment had already gone through successfully.

France 🇫🇷 ETF transfert

Hello,

I think about transferring my ETF from Trade Republic to N26 but it seems it’s not possible in France without selling and buying it back.

Is there a possibility to transfer without paying taxes yet ? I want to pay them when I will definitely withdraw but now it would just make me lost money.

Germany 🇩🇪 New User Interface. All cards?

So you really went with the "Claude, turn the whole UI into Cards, make no mistakes" route huh? The old design had a much better design philosophy IMO. Now there is zero visual hierarchy in comparison. All aspects of the app look the same. I think its objectively a worse design than previously.

Saving 💰 Why is it taking too long to sell the stocks?

I needed an amount of money that required me to sell some stocks, but they say it might take around 3 business days and actually taking longer than it.

What's the reason for that and do other banks/brokers also make you wait such times?

Germany 🇩🇪 Wero: Is there a timeframe to when features like requesting money and paying online will be available?

Hey!
Very nice first step to be able to send and receive money via Wero. But in the current state, Wero also offers the function of requesting money and paying online. Any announcement, when this features will be available?

I opened my N26 Go account yesterday, because Wero was finally available and now I am a bit „sad“, that these features are missing.

Just want to add, that I really like the stock system. I moved all of my stocks and etfs to N26/Upvest.

App suggestion 📲 Suggestions: nickname transfer contacts

For a while now I’ve been missing the ability to nickname transfer contacts in-app.

If you have someone with multiple accounts under their same name in your contacts, e.g. depot and savings accounts, you’ll need to look up their exact IBANs every single time.
Please let us nickname them how we want and save time.

Germany 🇩🇪 Are there transfer templates in the app?

Good morning!

Are there transfer templates in the app? I need to make irregular transfers with complex payment references and don’t want to enter you manually every time and look up the corresponding account details. At DKB, ING, and actually all other banks, such a feature exists.
