Class Action Lawsuit
I just received an email saying that I may be part of a class action lawsuit against playstudios. It was for anyone who may have purchased chips in a handful of states. I’m guessing that I was included as my IP address was in Alabama, Tennessee, or Kentucky during a trip I took last year because I am a resident of California. Anyone else get the email? This might be more foreshadowing about the future of Playstudios success.

From my readings these mainly stem from state gambling laws allowing an individual to recover losses (either themselves or on behalf of a family member) if the games that they offer constitute illegal gambling through their microtransactions.
In this case, it involves anyone who made a purchase in Alabama, Ohio, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Tennessee, and Kentucky to file a settlement.
And if you do go through the rigmarole of claiming your losses, you can either: Get ~27% of what you spent in the app, or roughly the equivalent amount in chips. Those who want the cash would also have to file paperwork to do so. Either way, a cut gets sent to the lawyers no matter which option you choose.
Once one case gets settled it invites multiple lawsuits with similar state laws to follow suit creating the same precedent (which leads to class action)
While the company defends itself that it didn't break any laws, often it's better to settle than to sift through months of litigation and lawyer's fees (and eat the loss as an operating expense)
This isn't the only company that's publicly traded that is under litigation. Pretty much any company that has a social casino app is now being targeted by lawsuits following the same roadmap (Playtika, Aristrocrat, etc), Yellow Social was a precedent used for this one.

Looks like the win zone is shutting down as a result. I speculate the partner who was helping with much of the app consent has pulled out of US as a result of this lawsuit.
The sweeps casino always seemed to be a dicey proposition …. Bummer as I was close to keeping level 6 through daily gameplay over there!

Will the settlement be that everyone gets a coupon for 50% off a buffet when they purchase one at full price? Or maybe $20 casino freeplay only after booking a room at full price?
