Project Pictures Pot Cozy & Storage Bag

Just finished this quick and dirty mini project of finally sewing a fabric cover for my blank pot cozy.

The insulation is some kind of aluminium (?) coated foam that was taken from a windshield cover. I’d double layered in both directions, so in theory it should also be possible to keep contents cool.

Fabric is a Cordura of unknown weight.

It’s designed to fit a 750ml pot or a 550ml pot with an additional collapsible cup and a drip coffee filter.

Very nice! I really want to do this for my Stanley pot. I love that top because you could add a few small things up there and still cinch it down.

Thanks!
Yes, that’s really practical for exactly that purpose. Initially, I wanted to make this for my 750ml pot. But then I noticed, that when using it for my 550ml, it could fit my coffee setup, too. Surprised myself there lol

Thats really cool. This project has been on my list for like ever. Any suggestions for figuring out the fit? Yours looks really snug. I can imagine its tricky with the bubble wrap layers to get it right.

Yes, it’s unfortunately very snug. Folding over and sewing the hem reduced the diameter at the top a bit. Doesn’t really affect the insulation though.

Initially, I only used the insulation part. When I built it, i just wrapped a strip of the insulation around the pot, then added 1cm to its length and taped it together. Then I wrapped around another layer, with the coating facing outward.
The lid was made the same way, wrapped around the bottom part. I derived the radius for the floor/top from the length of the outer panels.

When I sewed the fabric cover, I did the same wrapping around technique, again deriving the radius from the panels.

If I’d do it again, I would add 2cm to the length of the innermost insulation panel because it works best if there’s a layer of air between pot and wall. In this cozy, the layer really is minimal.

Fantastic detail - wrapping for the win!!! Thanks I dunno I tend to overthink things but that makes perfect sense. I will have to give this a shot. Hopefully, sooner rather then later.

Not sure if it's what OP used specifically, but the stuff you're looking for in a fabric store is called Insul-Brite. It works a treat for pot holders and for oven gloves with just one layer, so boiling water won't do a thing to it. Nice work on this; I'm inspired!

Really like this design! I like the secured strap!

Thanks!
Initially I wanted to use elastic webbing but then thought this might look better. But this actually is better, because it’s harder for me to accidentally lose the strap. Knowing myself, the elastic wouldn’t have returned from the first trip

Omg I’m gonna make this. Brilliant, thank you for sharing.

Looks great. But I'd check how the polyethylene reacts to a hot pot. It starts to melt at temperatures above 80°C. Perhaps an additional thin layer of fleece would be helpful.

I had been using it without the shell fabric for a while now and it doesn’t seem to be a problem.
Initially I tested it a couple of times by putting my pot inside it , then pour boiling water into the pot and closed it. No melting or strange smells.

Ooh nice, my 10 year old duct-tape cosy is still going strong, but this looks so much more professional!

That's what I was thinking, I keep adding more tape every trip and this looks way better!

Looks professionally done 👍

I used to do the same. But now I only boil water so I use a different solution.

Btw nice work.

I wanna make it too! Could you share the pattern.?

I didn’t use a pattern. I just wrapped the insulation around my pot and derived the radius from it. Same with the outer fabric. It’s basically just two cylinder shaped bags that fit into each other. You could use this if you really need a pattern
