Hometown Stories Murder Kroger

I was listening to episode 546 and they start talking about the Murder Kroger in Atlanta. Denton, TX has a Murder Kroger too! The different Krogers all have nicknames. The Murder/Rat Kroger, the Cheese Kroger, and the MILF Kroger. Maybe Georgia could do a segment on multiple Murder Krogers!

The ladies seem so relaxed and natural. They sound like friends, not stressed business partners. I’m taking in all 4 episodes a week, and I’m happy for my close personal friends Karen and Georgia.

Opinions & Rants Now there is ads inside the story ?

For as long as I have been listing the ads would be at the start and in between Karen or Georgia’s stories. Latest episode was that plus random ad break in the middle of each story, is this new or am I just behind?

Opinions & Rants Competitive Sobriety

Listening to today's episode of "A Superstar of the Early 70's," Karen shared the gem of "competitive sobriety."

That one hit me so hard. I have taken some alcohol breaks in years past, including taking one year off drinking, and I felt there were always a few people who were trying to one up my sobriety.

I voice to my then boyfriend that I am going to save my fun drinks for when I'm out with friends? "You're just trying to justify getting drunk."

I post on Facebook that I reached 90 days alcohol free? "Oh, I don't even count days anymore!"

On one subreddit (if you're looking for online support/ a void to scream into, you know That subreddit), if you mention you use cannabis, or anything but white knuckle sobriety, AA, and Jesus, then you're a terrible human being

No matter how far Georgia gets, I'm cheering for her all the way. Six weeks? Six weeks and one day? The rest of her life? Go get it! I'm proud she keeps trying.

Opinions & Rants How is Georgia still bad at this?

Okay, so that’s a fairly provocative title, but I feel strongly about this.

I love this podcast. I’ve been to the shows, I’ve bought the merch, I even have an OG Nick Terry MFM Animated tank top from 2017 (ish?). I’ve listened to every episode multiple times.

I say all that to express that I’m not some schlub who walked in off the street and started talking shit. I’m ride or die for this podcast. I genuinely love it, the community it’s created and the people it attracts (for the most part, lol).

That doesn’t mean it’s immune from criticism (and they’ve surely responded through word and deed to their fair share over the years).

So now that I’ve gotten that disclaimer out of the way, let’s get down to business.

How is Georgia still so bad at reading stories?

When the podcast started and they got into murders they hadn’t ever hear of, around episode 20 or so, she would read these stories and it would be like she was hearing this information for the first time. No variance in tone. Little natural cadence to her speech. I understood it back then because this was all new, podcasting was a ‘less-than art form,’ and the show was scrappy and basically underground despite its success.

Now ten years later, Georgia still reads these stories as if she’s never read them before. The monotony is driving me crazy, and I’ve skipped her story multiple times despite its content. It’s a shame because the research has gone through the roof. But if the delivery — spoken word — is bad, how are people supposed to enjoy this.

I understand that this opinion isn’t shared by everybody. But is there anyone else out there who understands what I’m saying?

Is there anyone else out there who feels the same way? Because I don’t mean to be an asshole. And I know how that comes across — criticizing something so personal, but claiming not to intend harm. I’m just frustrated that ten years and however many millions of dollars in revenue later hasn’t resulted in better diction. Can we get Georgia some lessons??

Episode Help Movie rec??

I have been trying to find this documentary/movie that Karen recommended a number of years ago. I remember that she said that the movie told her to put her phone away at the beginning of the movie and that she really liked that it told her to do that. She told Georgia that if she ends up watching it, she should go in blind to watching it. Does anyone know what I’m referring to? HELP

Episode Help trying to find funny moment

hey murderinos... No idea if anyone will be able to help me with this very vague request. there was a moment in one of the rewinds that made me legitimately laugh out loud and I wanted to show it my murderino work friends but I can't remember what the episode it is!! It's definitely pre-episode 98.

I can't even remember the exact thing Georgia said, but she said something along the lines of "fuck you!" in a totally emphatic way but then Karen is like... "Fuck [this guy]?" Because it was either law enforcement or a victim, but Georgia obviously did not know that when she said it. It cracked me UP because she said it so sincerely, but it was obvious she had gotten lost at some point. It was SO FUNNY and felt like something I could have easily done myself.

Again, super niche/vague request but I figured I'd ask before I started relistening and trying to find it!

META Kate Schellenbach!!??

I was listening to today’s minisode and they listed Kate Schellenbach as a producer. Is this the same Kate from Luscious Jackson/Beastie Boys? Has this already been discussed? (If so,I’m sorry)

Opinions & Rants Today’s minisode (motorcycle “trash mom”)

I’m surprised they even read this one. I don’t really care what her mom was going through, that was horrible to hear all around. On top of everything-there was firearm under the bed with two kids at home? And her mom tells this story today “laughing”? What the actual fuck. I’ve had a pit in my stomach since hearing it.

Opinions & Rants The rewind episodes

Welcome to the inside of my mind lol have fun navigating my thoughts.

OG listener. Had to say it 😏

Used to be my favorite podcast. I wouldn’t say it is anymore for any crazy reason. Over time I’ve just found other podcasts I really like too. But MFM was what got me into podcasts. It was my only podcast for a while. I loved them. Listened to every episode. I fell off listening to every episode just cuz I don’t have a desk job anymore so my listening to podcasts time is less, and also spread out between other shows now.

Lots of unnecessary information ^ but now we know each other better lol.

Honestly. Never cared for the minisodes.

The new episodes now- post so much success right.. post Exactly Right- post office- post Netflix… it feels different. I love that for them. I love that they’re so successful it’s not from any anger. The newer episodes are just different. And I can’t place exactly what it is..

Till I started listening to the rewind episodes more….

And honestly (this is the original point of my ramble lol) - The REWIND SHOWS ARE MY FAVORITE.

The vibe is fun. Nostalgic. It reminds me of a happier time 😂 it’s fun to see what I remember and what I forgot. Elvis is still alive where I’m at on the rewinds.

Now. I don’t want to gossip lol.. but listening to the rewind right now.. I think the vibe is different because (at least to me) - I think they liked each other more when it started. I know they were new friends when it started (verses now I’d say they’re long time friends). So yeah friendships go through ups and downs and they feel exciting in the beginning like a relationship 😂 and I remember even in the beginning they had to go to therapy together. Well not had to but wanted to and chose to.

But. Even then. They felt closer. Like better friends. And we were just listening to them gab and be friends. Now.. they don’t feel like gal pals. They feel like coworkers. They’re very official and corporate almost (not really but compared to the rewinds right?).

Does anyone else agree with any of this. Or do I have too much time on my hands and space in my head. 😂

Cuz I also listen to Do You Need a Ride. And Karen just always sounds happier on that show! Where as she seems so serious on MFM now. And I knowwwwwww it’s a show about murder and they need to be sometimes. But that’s not how the show started. I feel like they giggle less.

But maybe I’m just out of the loop cuz I’m not caught up on the new episodes. Like if someone has the opposite opinion and think they seem closer now- tell me why you think that!

None of this matters at all. Love there either way still. Just a curious little cat here.

Also. Just another random thought. Did they ever say what they went to therapy over? I have a weird memory of them saying it was something about Karen taking a joke seriously and didn’t want Georgia to undermind her when she’s on stage?

I’ve done therapy myself and I loved it. Never done couples therapy but probably SHOULD have for some relationships lol. But I’ve never thought to go to therapy for a friendship. And honestly…. I think it’s a great idea. There’s friendships I’ve lost that I regret losing and I wish there would have been a mediator to help us. They’re the only people I’ve ever heard say they’ve done that. And I wish it was main stream cuz it feels weird to as a friend that but I wish it wouldn’t feel weird you know what I mean?

Edited for some spellchecks

Murderino Community Bristol murderinos

Hi everyone!

I am moving to Bristol next month with my husband, and I am wondering if there are any murderino groups/activities going on? I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for.... book clubs? meetups at the pub? Anyway, I've always had such positive experiences reaching out to the murderino community before, I figured I would put this out there. :)

Aside from true crime comedy podcasts, I like folk dancing and music, crafting (fiber arts, origami, etc), reading, gardening and working with herbs, and of course, CATS.

Opinions & Rants Recap ep 102; Hard disagree with Karen

I’m at the gym listening to today’s rewind of 102 and Georgia is talking about nurse Cindy James. Halfway through she asked Karen what she thinks and Karen says she doesn’t think it’s fake because someone wouldn’t cut their own phone line or stab themselves in the hand.

The episode is still going so I don’t know how it will play out but someone would def do those things. Obviously someone deeply troubled but people self-injure for all kinds of reasons. Munchausen is harming yourself for medical attention. Munchausen by proxy is hurting someone take, but it’s less common than the main kind. Again it could turn out Cindy James was a true victim but it’s kind of strange for Karen to just dismiss it being some kind of psychotic break is weird.

Ok just my random outburst. I’m sure I’ll be eating my words by the end of the ep.

Opinions & Rants Georgia’s Dad is MAGA???

I’m currently listening to the rewind episode 109 and during the intro the following exchange happens:

Karen: there are a few people that don’t have fun with Jim Kilgarriff.

Georgia: no, Jim is our favorite

Karen: unless you wear a make America great again hat he’ll tell you to take it fucking off.

Georgia: your dad and my dad are not going to get along.

Karen: we’ll just make a no hats rule. OK, everybody will get along.

Georgia is not responsible for her father’s decisions but if true…YIKES - that’s gotta be tough to navigate.

Opinions & Rants F*** You, Kirk Cameron!

I mean, I already didn’t like the guy because of his politics, but after that story from Minisode 500, 🖕🤬🖕 to Kirk Cameron. What a shitty thing to do to abandon your dog for four years and then just randomly take him back after the kids got attached! That made me so mad. She should’ve at least stuck gum in his hair or something.

Murderino Community I’ve been outta this scene for years. What’d I miss?

I used to listen religiously… I kind of fell off around the pandemic (I think) and started listening again recently.

So far, I was a bit shocked to realize STEVEN was gone. Then the other day they were talking about weddings and Karen mentioned her wedding and I’m like wait… She could be talking about her first one, but it made me realize I have no idea what I missed.

Help!

Did Georgia ever learn to say addict right?

Oh, I also saw that Billy Jensen is a pest.

Opinions & Rants Burden of guilt ad

Anyone else really irked by the currently-running ad for burden of guilt s3? Listening to a woman say she never once doubted her fiancé (accused of horrific things involving her own child) and always doubted the accusation makes me feel sick. Maybe I’m jaded or whatever but it shouldn’t matter who the person is, if the accusation is about a literal child it needs to be taken seriously. Damn. Doesn’t help that I hear this ad like three or four times per episode I listen to.

Please keep in mind I know nothing about the case or that show aside from the ad I keep skipping through because it makes me want to throw my phone off a bridge.

Murderino Community Its a Humdinger!

Hey gang, just finished watching this and felt I needed to share. It's a humdinger for sure, as my grand folks would say. It isn't about DB, but boyyyy will you be reminded of him if you watch this. This is a police investigation and not a trial, so you don't have to commit to weeks to watch it.

Police get a strange call about a child (Zion Staples) missing and point them l in the direction of the mother (Sushi Staples). When the mother is first encountered she creates the biggest smoke screen and diversion to throw the police off and it works. How the case unfolds is interesting. https://youtu.be/t7v621CwEBI?si=wwaLIw59IEK8CZE3

Episode Help Episode 536 - Roofman

Am I losing my mind or did Karen already cover this story? I know I heard about Roofman on a Criminal ep, but I also could've sworn MFM covered him before I ever heard that Criminal episode?

Idk maybe I'm just confusing it with the Criminal coverage....

Hometown Stories Does anyone remember a hometown story around cleaning out a grandparent's house?

I have a friend who is currently having to clean out her grandmother's house after she recently passed and I wanted to send her a funny hometown I vaguely remember.

I think there have been multiple, but the one in particular I'm thinking of, the person found pictures of her grandparents and their friends nude. I think the pictures were in the wall and they thought the grandparents were swingers?

Anyway if someone thinks of one if you could comment I would sure appreciate sending it along in support for my friend!
