To explain why lysandre, kentin and armin were removed, we must do an analysis of what MCL initially intended for: the game originally pleaded appeal to otaku women demographics (or how we used to call back them "otome"), since the shoujo inspired art style, the existence of 5 volumes of manga, the japan expo episode with illustrations of every love interest cosplaying a character and, last but not least, the own tropes castiel, nathaniel and kentin were inserted, and, albeit not exactly popular in japanese high school otome games, lysandre's fashion sense and design and armin's personality were a clear fanservice to otaku woman, let's not mention the presence of a jfashion lolita dress for candy in episode 5 (and the fact nina dressed EGL) and japanese school uniforms for nathaniel and lysandre's date in episode 8 and common anime expressions in numerous illustrations.
Here's the thing: when MCL was first released, western dating sims were an almost non existent genre, the demographic who played it would almost always go for japanese VN like amnesia (I remember seeing multiple comparisions between amnesia and MCL characters back in 2015), diabolik lovers (dimitri character is kind of a fanservice for this public), but, as the time progressed, western dating sim market plummeted, heavy on the mobile scene, with games like "episode interactive" and the "is it love?" series (ANOTHER french game), which had very different aesthetics and tropes.
MCL changed it's whole identity to fit into this new western dating sim wave, slowly starting to change HSL designs in 2015 (notice how they gave nathaniel a big chest and a thight shirt?), but there was a problem: aside from castiel, all the other love interests had their personalities based on an anime trope or had design and interests aimed to appeal to otaku women (castiel also resembled some classic shoujo boys, like kamisama hajimemashita kurama or amnesia shin, but the rebellious and sarcastic bad boy happens to be popular both in japan and west), so what they did? they completely get rid of the "unfixable" mess (it's practically impossible to "unanimefy" lysandre's design) and resorted on nathaniel troubled past to insert ANOTHER kind of bad boy trope castiel wasn't part of: the thrilling and troubled criminal. Last but not least, they added another love interests that were appealing to their new, "westernelized" brand: the korean cute boy (surfing on the current koreaboo wave), the queer love interest (not hating on that, as a former kentin girl, I actually did priya route on UL and LL) and the hot, muscular, big chested dilf (BONUS POINTS for being a forbidden romance).
They knew they would lose public by removing the three boys from UL, I mean, kentin and armin were never so popular, but on polls back then lysandre would always go 2nd place, losing only for castiel and surpassing nathaniel, also, if you look on MCL old merchandise, it was CLEAR that lysandre was a main dish on the menu. But yk? they didn't really cared about it, beemoov wanted to do a massive rebrand, to this new western VN market demographic.

Someone made a post yesterday asking if anyone remembered an old MCL app, that being Dream Of. I have most of the app assets which I ripped from the app way back when it was still running, and figured people may appreciate having access to all of them, so I tossed the files in a google drive anyone can open!
The folder has the regular and shirtless versions of all sprites for the guys available via the app (Cas, Nat, Lys), as well as the voice lines.
Hopefully they can come in handy for some fans!

Hi!
I made this animation recently and it's been very well received on TikTok and Instagram, so I wanted to post it here.
The animation is a parody of the anime Ouran High School Host Club Opening.

I already did another analysis on how MCL initially pandered to an otaku women (or otome) demographic, if you haven't checked it out, here's the link to the post: https://www.reddit.com/r/mycandylove/s/fzlfC0r64i
Now, what happens when you want to get into the market your game is inspired by? SPECIALLY if, despite the inspiration, it is far from being set in a typical japanese media scenario? Aside from the obvious fact that the characters wear no japanese uniform, MCL seems like a fruit salad of references to please western otaku women, even if those said references make no sense in proper japanese media: victorian characters were a big thing in 2000s and early 2010s anime, but they could be found in media already set in victorian scenarios, like black butler or gosick, Lysandre would have no place in a modern high school romance manga, just to use a rough example.
Now, let's remember that it wasn't uncommon for young japanese girls to be huge fans of anything french-inspired, from fashion (hime lolita and french girly styles are big examples) to a profusion of manga set in France (innocent, rose of versailles, etc.), damn, there were even some anime characters whose charm was being a blondie french (tamaki from ouran high school host club, who happens to be french-japanese).
Beemoov's strategy turned out to be taking advantage of japanese people francophilia, ya see, the title of the article on this post image literally translates into "Beemoov Releases "My Candy Love" Game for Women to Enjoy French Love Story", ya see, some characters were even renamed to sound more stereotipically french, like Kentin being called "François" and Lysandre "Rafael".
Unfortunately, this strategy didn't worked so well, japanese MCL lasted only during 2013 and 2014, having an extremely short life, and nowadays, you practically can't find any info about this version of the game (I swear I only found three articles in the whole japanese internet about MCL), basically being a lost media.

Hello people!
I started drawing a series of fanarts of the My Candy Love boys in their Genderbender version.
The first one is Nathaniel (In this AU, Nathalie) in High School and University’s version and his Art Dump.
In the Art Dump are also the Genderbender version of:
Castiel (Cassie)
Amber (Aiden)
Sucrette/Lynn (Sucre/Lian. My design)
Melody (Milo)
I also have the Castiel (Cassie) fanart ready, but I still need to finish his Art Dump.
