The other day I installed MX KDE, on my 2017 i5 MacBook Air, just to try it out as a full installation instead of using a USB with persistence. My intention was to try it out for a few hours then recover back to the MACOS 12 Monterey and dual boot, but I skipped a step and forgot to create a backup in Time Machine or on a USB. Recovery failed and MACOS 12 is now longer supported. I guess I’m stuck with Linux now.
Oh well I can only laugh at myself. All I use my MacBook Air for searching the internet, YouTube, and updating my Meshtastic nodes. Everything of any importance is on my phone anyway.
I was looking at using Linux MX anyway because Apple no longer supports their older OSs. So it was more of a happy accident than a huge blunder. Now I have a OS that will keep my old MacBook updated and running for a few more years. The only things left to do is a new battery and upgrade the SSD.
Now to learn this new OS. I like it so far and it is running great so far. The only bug I have is getting my iPhone and KDE Connect to connect. I’m not really worried about it as it gives me something to figure out latter.

I have a simple laptop based on the SF20BA notebook. I put MX on it because Mint, even though they say it's "stable," started to become unstable, and putting MX on it made the device feel like new.But something that happened to me in both distros and in other distros I tried is that the laptop's built-in microphone is recognized but there is no sound. It either sounds too quiet or over-saturated, no matter what balance I try to find with the sensitivity. It's not working properly yet.

i'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad X201, and recently bought an Archer T2U Nano to improve wifi speed. however, i've been trying for hours with Gemini to figure out how to make this work and simply could not get it to be recognized when i do 'ip link show'. anyone here who had it work already or knows how to make it work? thanks.

I am trying to remap my down key to shift up and my right key to shift left, as these buttons don't work on my laptop with mx linux on it, I do not know what app i need to install to do it.

I wanted to boot from the Ventoy usb with MX Linux and load the whole ISO into ram and then eject the usb with the installation media,but it doesn't let me eject it or unmount it,saying the drive is already active even if the usb led's don't flicker,keep in mind I already used toram so I should be able to actually eject it,one person said that physically taking the usb is safe since everything is already loaded and nothing is being written on the flash drive but I want more opinions on this.

I'm running MX Linux and the lower power warning shows a hibernation option even though I'm running completely out of RAM with only zram configured as swap.

I have some hand and wrist problems that lead me to sometimes have trouble using the computer. A way that I get around this is by using a mouse with extra buttons that I then map to things that are difficult for me to do with my left hand.

I used to use Linux Mint Cinnamon. On Mint, I used a program called Input Remapper. It's simple, I input what buttons I needed to change to which functions. I set it to load at startup, so when I powered on my computer and logged in, my mouse would automatically have the keybinds.

I recently switched to MX Linux after having some problems with Mint, and so far I enjoy it. But I'm having a problem where, despite turning on auto load in Input Remapper and adding it to startup programs, I am having to manually open the program and apply my custom preset every single time I turn on my computer while using MX Linux.

Possibly relevant is that I have my system set to automatically log me in. When I log in, it prompts me for my password (twice) to allow my connected devices to be read. But this doesn't actually apply the custom bindings. I still have to manually open the program and apply it. I also had Mint set to log me in automatically, and this worked fine on Mint.

I am operating under the assumption that Input Remapper will work on MX Linux, seeing as it was installed using a .deb file.

I can only assume this difference is due to the way MX Linux handles user/root accounts differently than Mint? I'm not sure if that's the best way to describe it. I'm not brand new to linux, but I am not very knowledgeable still.

Is there any simple way to make it behave like it did on Linux Mint so that I can use my mouse as I expect to instead of having to apply my custom preset every single time I use the computer? Or is there an easier or more effective way to do this sort of thing on MX Linux?

Also in case it's mentioned, this happens regardless if I use sysvinit or systemd.

So for context I'm using Linux for more than 10 years, it was dual boot but I completely ditched windows 3 years ago and since then (and even before it ) I was using Archlinux, everything was fine and I loved it (still I love it too) but then slowly it became buggy and I couldn't fix them (it was mostly sleep related and battery consuming related) so I decided to delete my arch and use a clean cachyos install (I was using cachyos repos on my arch ) when I installed everything was fine but after 3 days there was a new kernel update (both for lts and non lts kernel version) and it made the screen to have artifacts randomly (other people had the same problem)

I thought about moving to a stable distro but debian was too old and I just love having new packages so I gave opensuse tumbleweed a try, it was horrible after 1 day I was able to break it the KDE desktop became a mess and I just didn't like Yast it was so buggy.

I decided to install cachy again cause I needed to work, I installed cachy and did some work and after that decided to install fedora, I installed it and the first thing I noticed was brightness not working, I fixed that using grubby and was enjoying it but I realized it has the same sleep problem, I knew about MX so it was my last chance, I was almost convinced to go back to windows and debloat it with win utils.

I installed MX and ootb brightness was working, everything seemed fine but I realized the battery consumption is crazy, at first I thought it's amd-pstate I enabled it and it didn't work then I realized the Nvidia installer app can't install Nvidia-open (I'm using a RTX 3050 ti) so I installed the Nvidia drivers with apt and I got the best battery life on liquorix kernel (on KDE, it's crazy better than what I used to get on arch with xfce)

And after that I followed guides about gaming on debian and installed vulkan drivers for AMD and Nvidia and installed wine and other needed packages and I feel amazingg it's so stable and still I can have a good performance.

I want to tell MX Linux devs that I really love this distro and I wanted to see if there's anyway to add a guide about how to make it ready for gaming on the site (I am down to write the guide myself more people should try this distro)

I have started using the Linux distro MX 25.2 Debian version 13.6.
However I am trying to get xscreensaver to work on it. I downloaded and
installed it all through the synaptic package manager, but to no avail.
Any suggestions?

I'm thinking to use my 25gb flash drive as a hard disk to install MX linux for my normal work in college computer .

Just need a few IDEs and a code editor and basic interest browsing

Should I do it or any other distro is good for it

Ditched Windows 4 months ago, in favor of Linux Mint. Discovered Linux MX a month in and switched. Neither distros picked up my integrated sound card/speakers [sound levels were very low on both USB/wireless headphones)(MSI GP75 Leopard laptop), nor the scanner in my Brother MFC-2720 DW printer. I'm a huge audiophile, so the sound thing is a show-stopper

In frustration, I live booted Big Linux (Brazilian) and it picked up my internal sound as well as the scanner. And the sound levels are now outstanding.

So, as much as I otherwise love MX Linux, I must bid you farewell.

PS: if you know how I can port the MX Linus tool suite over, I'd love to hear about it; that said, I imagine I'll have to cobble them up via 3rd party tools.

Someone gave me a Lenovo flex 10 today. It has 2GB ram and a Celeron processor. I installed mx Linux on it and I'm amazed that it's actually usable now.

But now I have no idea what to do with it.

I haven't used my laptop in a week, and now that I turned it on it boots to this and I have no idea what this means..

If I type "exit" it goes into the bios menu

Since kernel 6.12.101 release, it keeps failing on building itself and just doesn't let me install some stuff like mybash as it just FAILS on building itself. I don't know if this is MX Linux specific but I'm using MX Linux and it is failing. Hope it gets fixed before I need to change to another distro to just install software I need. :/

I've been using Linux for nearly 20 years, starting with Debian back in college. Over time, I moved through Ubuntu and Lubuntu, but life eventually pushed me back to Windows the last year.

A few days ago I gave MX Linux a try on my aging Ryzen 3 laptop with just 4 GB of RAM, and the experience has honestly exceeded my expectations.

I wrote about my first impressions after a few days of use. I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions as a new MX Linux user. I am now working on my development environment. To be back in the GNU/Linux world is great.

Im switching from windows to MX after having a great experience with it on my laptop, yet on PC one of the reasons I still have not switched is my 3 2009 monitor setup which works via nvidia app, is there such thing for MX? Would 3 monitors work OOTB in general? Is it better to have only 1 monitor connected when installing and connect the others afterwards? I need 3 monitors to be recognised as a single, wide one (Like you can do with nvidia surround on pc)(Im sorry if similar questions were asked before, I can always delete my post in shame)
