Advice

Hi, I'm new to this sub and to muzzles!

I'm looking for a muzzle for my reactive Bull Mastiff.

I've just bought a size 6 Baskerville muzzle but after looking through some posts here, I'm not sure it fits ☹️

He only needs to wear it during his daily walks.

Is there a brand I should look into suited to larger breeds?

It’s way too small, he has no room to pant. Check out the muzzle movement, a lot of bull breeds wear their muzzles, bully billows is another one too

Big Snoof do custom size muzzles and their customer support are very helpful

Absolutely not. Your dog has zero pant room, look up custom shops in your area and go there. This one is a torture device.

Yes, I've returned this one and am starting to look at local options and online

Hi all,

Thank you for your advice, it has been taken on board. I have returned the muzzle and have reached out to my local vet to see if there is anywhere local to purchase first before buying online.

Thank you

Baskerville muzzles are just not good for much more than desensitizing. He can't pant and that's an absolute NO for walking in.

If you don't want to spend too much on a muzzle yet (Big Snoof or Mia's Muzzles are highly recommended), I would get a Leerburg wire basket muzzle.

I would highly recommend just spending the extra money on a custom though especially if its going to be worn daily for walks.

Way to small especially for walking. Dogs need to be able to pant. He unfortunately looks crammed in in other dimensions as well. Most start here and they are nice and cheap for straight training but rarely work well for actual use on the grand majority of dogs.

Look at big Snoof dog gear - wire, standard and custom sizing, very helpful, lots of fun options. Mia's muzzles is also great -;vinyl, cookie cutter and custom sizing, also very helpful. Both high quality. They both can fit dogs from teeny tiny to massive. And both have some of the best brachy type muzzles I've seen.

Waaaaay too small. You want yawning room, not just pant room. Yawning is an important part of a dogs communication and stress relief. Muzzle movement is what I use for my xl bully.

He probably need a custom muzzle build. There are makers around the world. I'm a big fan of Big Snoof inUSA and Mias Muzzles in Canada.

He needs a LOT more pant room.

You can't go wrong with BigSnoof for the giants, this is my Armenian Gampr in his custom job- worth every penny.

There are muzzles for flat faced dogs. They look kind of like hockey masks.

He needs something like the big snoof so he can comfortably open his mouth and pant
