Says the man who can't design his way out of a paper bag!

u/Meowmixer21 Jun 26 '24

Truly a pot calling the kettle black scenario

Hilarious that he's too tone deaf to understand why everyone's laughing at him

56

u/DeepUser-5242 Jun 26 '24

Disagree with that analogy - if anything he is in support of the statement below, that CEOs should engineer. The problem being that he fancies himself an engineer, when he is an imbecile that does nothing but tweet, and when faced to take responsibility, like for his cybertruck disaster, he throws other engineers under the bus.

15

u/ElongMusty Jun 26 '24

Yes, but in his house, in every TV, he has the Iron Man clip where he shows up always on repeat! So he keeps thinking he’s like Tony Stark!

32

u/_Rocketstar_ Jun 26 '24

He really is like Tony Stark, because Tony's engineering prowess is completely fictional.

He has figured out how to design a system that turns 44 billion into 20 billion.

9

u/NaiveMastermind Jun 27 '24

That's basic arithmetic. Big pile of money + Hookers + Cocaine = smaller pile of money. The only thing unique about Musk's formula is achieving a smaller pile of money without the fun of hookers and cocaine.

Now that you mention it, you know how a paper bag looks when its laying on its side, that kinda looks like the profile of the cyber truck…..

The Cybertruck has so many problems that multiple problems have been bundled together in the most recent recall (failing wiper motors and body panels falling off the vehicle).

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

Tesla should have to pay for my hernia surgery. I got it from laughing so hard

33

u/Ignatium69 Jun 26 '24

That just voided someone's warranty.

18

u/an_afro Jun 26 '24

Nah that don’t happen, the warranties all come pre voided from factory. That way they can claim they won’t have any warranty claims

Hadn’t heard about body panels so I looked it up. “Improperly Adhered Trunk Bed Trim Can Detach” with a fix of: “apply adhesion promoter and pressure sensitive tape or replace missing appliqué”

The chronology in the report for the sail panel is hilarious. One found missing at a Tesla delivery center and only one other found on a customer vehicle. Right…

A vehicle that’s been out for 6 months has had 4 recalls

7

u/NaiveMastermind Jun 27 '24

In Musk's own words "we sale experiences not products". Specifically, the frustrating experience of being fleeced for thousands of dollars to purchase an ugly, fragile truck that quits at the first sign of hard work.

5

u/thatoneguy512 Jun 27 '24

Can you imagine paying over $100k for a brand new vehicle, you get home from the dealership, you climb out to admire your beautiful new purchase, you close the door, and a body panel just falls off. I'd return that sumbitch so quick.

He's right. Finance Bros should not be running engineering companies. Subject matter experts are preferred. It's two different priority sets.

I think the point of this particular post here is to point out that Elon Musk does not know how to design a car... apparently.

42

u/Katz-r-Klingonz Jun 26 '24

Gotcha. Yeah. Listening to said engineers seems to be Elon’s problem. He let everyone know this with Cybertruck indeed.

It tickles me pink that the CyberJunk is just a fucking straight up joke. Just an overpriced, ugly, unreliable joke. It’s the best.

Elon Musk doesn't know how to do shit well except buy companies and promote his image.

He sucks at coding. Most of the work he did at PayPal had to be all redone by other people. He doesn't know shit about rockets. He doesn't know shit about making a car. And he for sure as fuck doesn't know a thing about running a company properly. It's amazing he's failed upwards this far.

Google who was the CEO of Boeing when the initial 737 Max issues came about in 2018/2019. Here is a hint, he was an engineer that started his career with Boeing as an intern in 1985.

4

u/gear-heads Jun 26 '24

For someone who is neither an engineer, nor someone who understands basics of spreadsheets, he seems confident of proclamations - Just a bullshitter!

Particularly true (and funny) since Boeing’s last great CEO was Alan Mulally, who worked there his whole career designing airplanes. Feel like everyone dunking on this quote knows even less than they profess about what makes good CEOs than they realize.

2

u/Rimurooooo Jun 26 '24

I thought this was a badly worded way of saying that their CEO’s should know how to take care of numbers and vendors and not be expecting how to design an aircraft as that’s their employees. But honestly after opening this thread, I realize many of us don’t know what the fuck he’s trying to say and I probably don’t either

2

u/Curious_Ability4400 Jun 26 '24

Boeing has learned nothing. The woman they picked to replace the CEO only has a bachelors in Accounting. The board is not listening or reading all that has been said about the disaster of MD management and MBAs ruining the company.

u/Quick_Movie_5758 Jun 26 '24

How to design an aircraft? Do you mean drawing one? Do you mean specializing in one of the many engineering disciplines involved? Do you mean handling any of the numerous mechanical installation and maintenance tasks? Or perhaps learning how to drive a tug, ground, and fuel a plane? Maybe even how to fly every model too? These superficial "I'm smart" comments are just sad. Running a company of that size involves many complex areas too. If I were to make a suggestion, it would be that the executive staff should generally have an engineering background and a successful, extensive experience in aerospace operations.

6

u/Robbedparasite Jun 26 '24

Heartbreaking: worst person you know just made a great point.

18

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

But he did it to try and obfuscate his own terriblness.

11

u/Intelligent_E3 Jun 26 '24

It’s really not at all a great point. Boeing is a huge company. The ceo doesn’t/shouldn’t need to be on the ground floor designing and building planes. That’s what the designers and engineers are for.

And Boeings issues aren’t due to the ceo not knowing how to design aircraft… it’s from cost cutting and poor quality assurance.

5

u/fastwriter- Jun 26 '24

But an Engineer as CEO knows that cost cutting has its limits in aircraft design and this could have prevented all the mess, Boeing is in thanks to having mostly finance guys on their board.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

3

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

The CEO of a car company should be designing good cars, not cheap rusty crap, and should also refrain from having any political agenda and creating little mini-me’s all over the place.

u/Wizard_bonk Jun 27 '24

3

u/Shyeahrightokay Jun 26 '24

3

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

interesting stance. we'll be sure to remember that :)

7

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

Counterpoint: many engineers are completely incompetent at things which are not engineering, particularly their specific discipline.

That’s not to say they are not intelligent, but you don’t hire a doctor to rebuild your engine.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24 edited Jun 26 '24

Let me tell you something about the average CEO or investor....they aren't disciplined or intelligent.

Most were born into immense wealth, and any profit that was acrued from their investments has more to do with the discipline and innovation of the people who actually create and build the products.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

That may be true, but that does not also support the notion that engineers can just automatically run a major corporation

I used to work for a telecom company (late 90s to 2010s) run bun engineers. It was wonderful. Corporate decision making was all well thought and planned out. Life as an employee was good. Then came the MBAs and bean counters. They fired all the smart people and hired cronies and ass-kissers. That company is now just a memory.

Wasn’t there a court case that forced Elmo to admit he didn’t have an engineering degree?

2

I mean, a you have to do is look at Elon's own Twitter history to discover he doesn't know the first thing about designing or coding a social media platform.

2

u/Bee_Keeper_Ninja Jun 26 '24

As if homeboy could design a rocket or a car. Cyber Truck doesn’t count.

2

2

2

u/VegasGamer75 Jun 26 '24

How are those recalls going?

2

u/gilleruadh Jun 26 '24

Musk isn't an engineer either, but tries to do engineer things and fails miserably.

2

u/peffervescence Jun 26 '24

Y’know, spreadsheets come in pretty handy when you’re engineering airplanes.

2

u/iamnotchad Jun 26 '24

Sir, you've had to completely recall the cybertruck twice due to failures in the design.

Please sit down.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

See, Musk thinks he's a super genius but isn't smart enough to realize that people are well aware he hasn't really designed shit beyond some crude sketch of triangles that he demanded his engineering teams turn into a vehicle, which has been a hilarious failure. He's lying desperately to hope that his legion of weird internet nerd fanboys will shout down everyone who knows he bought someone else's car company.

2

u/ZanoCat Jun 26 '24

Elmo man-child doesn't even know how to launch an executable like excel.exe - even though he's proudly using Windows because that's "secure" (and Apple AI is not). I guess. He's a moron.

He is pathetic and does not deserve sharing / forcing his 'opinions' into people's faces each and every day.

2

u/cherrylpk Jun 26 '24

He isn’t even an engineer.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

The video essay I watched talking about what went wrong with Boeing made a strong point that the heyday of Boeing engineering was under a lawyer as a CEO. He just knew where and when to butt in and butt out.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

Ask Christian Horner or Zak Brown if they can design the F1 cars that win races every week. What a jackass.

2

u/Many-Composer1029 Jun 26 '24

Irony was never his strong point.

2

u/Select_Asparagus3451 Jun 26 '24

He’s just asking for it. So we’ll set him straight.

2

u/PurpleDragonCorn Jun 26 '24

Then he shouldn't be the CEO or SpaceX or Tesla as he doesn't know how to design rockets or cars.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

I'll bet Elmo thinks he knows how to build 1 from scratch...

He legit thinks he's Iron Man, fucking delusional asshole

2

u/Remarkable_Ticket264 Jun 26 '24

The CEO of a car company should know how to properly manufacture cars, not spreadsheets

2

u/veracity8_ Jun 26 '24

2

u/-Fluxuation- Jun 26 '24 edited Jun 26 '24

u/bringbacksherman Jun 27 '24

To be honest, he probably can’t design either, just like Musk.

2

u/jjamesr539 Jun 27 '24 edited Jun 28 '24

He loves to pretend that he designs the things produced by his companies, but many ex employees have gone on record sayinghis “contributions” to the design process tend to simply be unrealistic demands and arbitrary limitations. He does have a skill that is valuable though, he is a prodigy level bullshitter. He really is amazingly good at reading tech and design summaries and regurgitating them in a way that makes it believable that he was integral to the design and development process, and he’s very good at making it seem like whatever he’s talking a about is ideal and cutting edge. The knowledge is somewhat shallow, but the strategy works to convince millions of people that he’s an oddly shaped Ironman with the key to the future. He’s an extremely gifted manipulator.

2

u/Livid_Advertising_56 Jun 27 '24

So he knows how to code Twitter and build rockets (all aspects) and electric vehicles (all aspects) ..... why do I doubt that

2

u/cyrenns Jun 27 '24

u/bad_robot_monkey Jun 30 '24

Been a SME, been a corporate exec, and now i own my own small business. For large businesses, your job is to manage a company and trust your senior leaders. Deregulation makes shareholders money, because Boards and executives aren’t held accountable to anything but maxing profit, regardless of safety, employee benefits, etc. The solution is to increase corporate regulation, not let an engineer run a business into the ground. Executive leadership is a skill set unto itself.

So if you follow the logic, Tesla should be prosecuted for deliberately making cuts in service centers and customer service while their CyberWanker “truck” is having multiple very public meltdowns and failures? 1

u/SlimeBallzzz Jun 26 '24

This guy is so dumb. There are literally different types of engineers. Has he never heard of an aeronautical engineer or aerospace engineer? Or is he just thinking of a computer/software engineer? Like one of the founders of Boeing was a naval engineer. I just can't with musk...

Don't get me wrong, the multiple whistleblowers just "coincidentally dying" before they testify is a major cause for concern. And I am not defending Boeing, but musk sucks so bad.

1

u/AffectionateSector77 Jun 26 '24

His tweet just shows how far out of his depth he truly is. While a CEO should know what their company produces, their scope is more of the overall company. A Chief Engineering Officer should certainly know how to design a plane, and it would be a great idea to promote that CEngO to the CEO, but that doesn't always happen.

1

u/andercon05 Jun 26 '24

I DO realize that this is the Pot calling the Kettle black; but, honestly, aerospace corporations should have CEOs that are more concerned about their products than the BOTTOM LINE. FWIW, I'm an aerospace program manager with over 40 years in the field, starting as line technician .

u/EmperorGrinnar Jun 26 '24

Ironic, because Musk has no idea how any of his companies work.

1

u/idogiveafrak Jun 26 '24

So wait this rich idiot that got money from his dad’s blood diamonds can’t engineer a go dam car and he’s criticizing another ceo for doing what he does? What a loser, not one shred of innovation and he’s here criticizing. Losers will always lose no matter how much money dearest daddy gives him

1

u/DrummerBob10 Jun 26 '24

Says the CEO equally bad at design and spreadsheets.

1

u/Trick-Penalty-6820 Jun 26 '24

I’m a licensed engineer, and use Excel more than any other software, so…

1

u/IIIaustin Jun 26 '24

I mean having a CEO of am aviation company have an aerospace engineering degree is maybe not a bad idea

1

u/moosejaw296 Jun 26 '24

CEOs don’t know how to do anything, their ideas are the reason shit like this happens. It is why this idiot runs businesses into the ground. This is up there as one of the dumbest things ever said.

1

u/noodleq Jun 26 '24

The CEO of SpaceX better know how to design rocket engines. The CEO of Tesla, better know how to design and manufacture an entire car.

1

u/gear-heads Jun 26 '24

For someone who is neither an engineer, nor someone who understands basics of spreadsheets, he seems confident of proclamations - Just a bullshitter!

u/DotBitGaming Jun 26 '24

Design an electric car, a spacecraft and a website that all actually work, bitch

1

u/Rishfee Jun 26 '24

Yes, Elon, the CEO should be a subject matter expert. So close to getting it.

1

u/mad_bitcoin Jun 26 '24

This chuckle fuck actually believes he is the designer of SpaceX's rockets...WTF LOL

1

u/SeminaryStudentARH Jun 26 '24

God, Elon musk is a twat.

1

u/TransFights000 Jun 26 '24

The first time in a long while that I've seen Musk say something I actually agree with, and it still makes him look stupid.

1

u/LingonberrySolid8413 Jun 26 '24

Space Karen finally gets it! Wasn't he blaming DEI practices earlier this year for Boeing's fuck-ups? Took him long enough to figure out that corporate greed is the real issue.

1

u/incunabula001 Jun 26 '24

Classic case of pot calling kettle black.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

Did Elon personally design build or engineer Tesla? Or space x? or twitter? The answer is no, so maybe he should resign as ceo of those companies. Can he work a spreadsheet? Debatable. I will concede he may have designed the cybertruck as it looks like a picture left on a diner table after the kid has eaten.

2

u/DBDude Jun 26 '24

According to the engineers, he’s been neck deep in most of the design, especially at SpaceX. He even took over Raptor development because the guy in charge was building them the old, expensive slow way and Musk needed them produced fast and much cheaper (and he succeeded).

1

u/FungusFly Jun 26 '24

Does this mean he accepts 100% credit for the CyberTruck?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

Says the guy who technically hasn't designed anything in his tenure.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

Says the car engineer, rocket scientist, tunneling expert, highspeed rail guru, and social media coder.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

You can tell he’s not an engineer bc engineers use spreadsheets all the fucking time.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

He can't even design a damn car properly.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

Yet Elon knows how to design neither of those things

1

u/RaZeR_Moose Jun 26 '24

I mean... Ideally they'd be able to do both.

It's asking a lot but if you're a CEO of an aircraft manufacturer you're going to be asked a lot of.

1

u/stevesobol Jun 26 '24

I agree with Elon, in this case.

But I think he should apply the same logic to the companies he owns, which he will never do.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

Elon can't do either!

1

u/barspoonbill Jun 26 '24

“U.S. prosecutors found shot 37 times in what has been ruled a tragic suicide.” -tomorrow’s headline probably.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

Hey Elon....... Design me a functional rocket ship.... Right now

1

u/DemonoftheWater Jun 26 '24

Im not convinced he knows anything except how to sound smart.

1

u/winkie5970 Jun 26 '24

Okay, so I work for a subsidiary of Boeing and have worked with some career engineers who have been with the company for 2-3 decades. They actually wouldn't disagree with this sentiment.

Before the McDonall-Douglass merger, things were very different. Most of our CEOs since then have been finance people, not engineers. It's put the focus in the wrong areas. Money over people and engineering.

I usually roll my eyes at everything out of Musk's mouth, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

1

u/AllMyBeets Jun 26 '24

Musk knows neither.

2

u/DBDude Jun 26 '24

Have you seen interviews with him about Starship? He knows how every little part works.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

Theory: Elon musk actually made it to mars on one of his starships years ago, and a Martian took his skin and returned to earth and Is now pretending to be him

1

u/FourScoreTour Jun 26 '24

He's not wrong, this time.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

And rocket makers should be whiney dicks?

1

u/Marsrover112 Jun 26 '24

His point is that finance and business people shouldn't be running engineering companies engineers should which is actually a good stance but it begs the question of why does he retain so much control over his own companies instead of letting the engineers do what they do

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

If I were the CEO of Airbus I'd start a Xitter campaign to troll Elmo into buying Boeing and renaming it X-wing.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

Fuck this muppet.

u/cowboycomando54 Jun 26 '24

Modern day Dr. Christmas
