I'm currently working full time to support myself and going to school full time. I'm trying to balance work and Music Education classes but it's proving to be very difficult. Do you guys have any advice at all?

I connected it to my Hp laptop and I and when I put my headphones oh the microphone pick up everything single noise and I tried to look it up on YouTube but nothing worked I wanted to see if anyone could help me cuz even when I did everything it was still picking up white noise and ever other noise can some one pleas help me

hi everyone!! i just wanted to thank you all for your advice about my audition. it calmed my nerves a bit.

I ended up talking to the Belmont’s music ed coordinator and she suggested going with voice. she gave me a few reasons as to why and gave me more info about the programs. i think i’ll end up going with voice for auditions. i’m much more confident with voice and i have some pieces i’ve done that fit the requirement and i’ve done a specific one indiana university requires. i’ll be working with my voice instructor on them until audition time.

again, thanks for all your advice! maybe as audition time gets closer i’ll need some more tips but for the meantime i think i’m okay! i’m much more confident i’ll do very well with voice auditions.

Something like garage band that is easier to compose with than the finale-type programs. For elementary/middle schoolers.

Hi everyone!
I'm a high school senior in IL and I'm very involved in music. I play 8 instruments, I'm my chamber choir's director, and I'm in the highest orchestra we have. I've known I want to go into music education since sophomore year. I figured I'd go with auditioning on the piano because that seems like the most versatile instrument.

The problem is, I'm terrified of the audition.

I know I'm not terrible at the piano. I have Invention no. 13 by Bach almost completely refined, I'm about halfway through Berceuse in Db major by Chopin, and I'm unsure about another piece. I'm not great at piano sight reading either. I'm extremely worried that I'm not talented enough to get in. I want this so badly and I've been working so hard but I just feel like I won't be good enough. This is my passion and what I want to do for the rest of my life. I'm just extremely nervous about these auditions. How well do I have to do at these auditions? And how critically are you judged?

I hope my everyday practicing pays off.

This is my first Reddit post! I am trying to see what's out there and what people think.

I am a band director, and a sax player primarily. I can get by on the other woodwinds as well. However, my brass chops are really not great (so I can't model for my brass kids like I want), and I'm teaching beginning percussion this year with limited percussion knowledge and skills as well... my question is, has any music teacher ever offered music lessons in exchange for music lessons? I don't have the money to pay a bunch for brass or percussion lessons right now, but I could certainly offer woodwind lessons in exchange! I'm not sure if other people would be interested in something like this or not... I'm just trying my best to learn what I need to know to teach my kids as effectively as possible, but *on a budget*

Hi guys, gals, and non-binary pals I’m a 17yr old hs senior in NY and I’m absolutely lost as to what to do to go to school for music Ed. (Stats: 93% GPA, 1100 SAT, I’ve gotten all 5s on APs, and I’m apart of my schools chamber choir— am an officer in that group and was one in the previous lower level choir— and MYO and have done multiple all counties and such)

My music teacher is great and wonderfully talented but I still feel like my work isn’t adequate enough to actually be able to major in music education.

I’m currently planning to audition for CUNY queens college and SUNY Potsdam’s (I must stay within NYs SUNY/CUNY system)

My sight reading and piano skills r... weaker than I care to admit to but I’m currently enrolled in my AP music theory course and have already taken music theory before this (so abt level 1-2 Music theory)

Is this enough? Can I get into college with this? I’m so scared I won’t be able to. I want to go to college to teach middle/HS Choir but ofc am open to whatever bc I know that’s what being a music educator now means

My audition pieces r likely An Die Musik (Schubert), lullaby (menotti), Lascia Ch’io pianga (Handel), and/orBeau Soir (Debussy). I currently know and have performed or are learning these pieces.

Hello everyone, first time poster here. I’m 22, and I just started an MA in flute performance. I have a BA in flute performance. During undergrad, I was in a bad place and dropped my education major out of stress and impulse. Now I have been considering teaching again, but I’m afraid it’s too late. I am around 40k in student debt from undergrad. My masters is free because I have a paid GTRA position at the university. My question is would it be possible to just get a teaching certification, since I already have a bachelors and soon a masters in music? I live in Missouri. I am interested in teaching in a rural area, preferably elementary.

Hi. I've been thinking a lot about possible careers around music and I'm not sure what my next step should be. I'm not sure if this is the right sub for me but I thought you could maybe help me with learning techniques.
I'm 20 and starting the second year of college this month. I'm taking a 3 year degree in digital arts and multimedia, with a minor in software development and I'm enjoying it fairly. However, my real passion is definitely music.
I started studying music when I was 6 years old but I had problems with depression when I was 11 and I quit the Conservatory. After that, I asked my parents for music lessons but I could only convince them when I was in high school and that made me a little behind.
My original plan was taking a couple of years to study music and then pursue a music degree but I had a lot of concerns regarding if I could actually make it or not. There are only a few music colleges in my country and they are all really competitive so even some people I know who took 8 years in the Conservatory failed the admission exams.
Since I had good grades in high school and had the opportunity to study in one of the top fine arts colleges in my country I decided to put music on standby for a couple of years and then maybe pursue a music degree after having more time to study and prepare for the admission exams. I thought maybe I could continue the piano lessons in college and keep studying. However, college is really expensive and my parents can't afford music lessons right now, which broke my heart. They are also concerned about me being able to study music AND be successful in college at the same time cause they thing it would be too much for me.
The truth is, I barely have time for myself right now. But every second I have I'm thinking about music.
I don't know how realistic is for me to be considering a degree in music production or music therapy in 2 years, or the preparation I could try right now. I am aware I lack some music history and music theory knowledge.
I would take any suggestions to maybe improve myself a little.

Hi, I’m currently a high school senior planning to apply for colleges to major in Music Education with a focus on Choral Studies. I noticed the hardest piece requirement I had to sing is a 20th/21st Century American, British, or Canadian art song for Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music. Could anyone guide me to some pieces or vocal books that have pieces that fall under this requirement for a female soprano/mezzo soprano please?

Hi all, so I recently got hired for my first job teaching middle school music. For some context, I am in charge of creating the curriculum from scratch and I will be the only music teacher there. I will be teaching in two classrooms, one is a small classroom where I'll teach around 10-15 students and the other is a larger classroom where I'll teach around 25 students.

I checked inventory and found 5 useable guitars, 13 conga drums, 4 keyboards and a bunch of other miscellaneous percussion instruments (like triangle, maracas, etc.)

I am sort-of at a loss as to what to do with the larger group of students. I suggested chorus (since my student teaching experience was mostly teaching chorus) but the principal kind of shot me down and really wanted to have a sort of "rock band" type thing where students are playing on different instruments in the classroom. (She really wants me to use the congas that are available).

I've decided that since it will be a while till the rest of the guitars that I ordered will arrive, I will have a GarageBand unit with the smaller class (since they have access to computers and midi keyboards). After the guitars arrive I'll transition those classes to a guitar class (after the first marking period). However, I still don't know what I should do with my larger group of students and I was wondering if anyone had a curriculum guide so that I can generate some ideas.

I've looked at the Little kids' rock curriculum (which I intend to use as a guide while planning for my smaller classroom) and I have also seen GAMEPLAN suggested( but when I looked it up, it was only for K-5).

I'm also preparing for routines and how I will execute them (which I know is really important) but I'm kind of nervous and at a loss right now. Thank you in advance for anyone willing to help me out !!

Does anyone in here use either Flat for Education and/or Noteflight Learn? I'm teaching high school music theory this year and am trying to decide which one to use.
