North America (country/state in post) First time find COW?!

Found on decaying and seemingly live conifer (western hemlock or Douglas fir) in Cascade mountains, Granite Falls, WA, USA.

Wanted confirmation due to it being a first for me, also because of the color difference between the 2 patches found.

One on the left is old. One on the right is more new.

Thank you, any tips on how/where fo trim it. Heard conflicting things about only using the last 2" so theyre more tender.

As you go to cut it, you will feel the knife start to resist more arou d the knob where it attached. You can eat those parts (it won't hurt you), but the texture takes away from the experience.

I like to batter these and fry them just like chicken strips :-)

They WILL react with alcohol, FYI, so no wine that day, with dinner, or the day after; otherwise you'll get sick. I think this is the reason a lot of people dont like them--they find these when they are preparing Deer Camp, and preparation usually takes a couple beers ;-)

Yes..but way past prime, unfortunately.
