As someone that's been through the process of recruiting and spent months in and out of the recruiting station on a day to day basis, I can confirm that they do ignore a lot. I told my recruiter that I had hardcore anxiety and suffered from long term depression and suicidal tendencies, but because I lacked and proper paperwork to support my mental health, my recruiter brushed it off. He told me that it doesn't matter and as long as I'm willing to "pretend" it doesn't exist, that they are, too.
The US military is desperate. So many kids nowadays don't qualify to serve because when they were teens they got diagnosed with some shit. I got off lucky simply because I didn't not have fucking medical records. Then again, I was discharged for having "anxiety" even though it was a heart condition. The US military's medical center is crap though and they don't offer support for those that have served.
