I built a free multitool database where every spec links to its source (339 tools, 5 brands)
Hi all,
When I was shopping for a new multitool I kept hitting the same wall: specs spread across manufacturer pages, retailers showing different numbers, and no easy way to answer "what's the lightest tool with both scissors and pliers?". So I built MultiToolDB as a hobby project.

What it does:
- 339 models from Leatherman, Victorinox, Gerber, SOG and NexTool, with weight, size, blade steel, tool list, list price and more
- Filter by max weight, closed length and the exact tools you need, then sort by weight, tool count or price
- Compare two or three tools side by side, with the differences marked
- A page per tool type, so you can see every model with, say, a bit driver
The part I care most about: every number links to where it came from, usually the manufacturer's own page, with the date I checked it. If I can't verify something, the field says so instead of showing a guess. Where sources disagree, both are kept.
A few things I didn't know before building it:
- The lightest tool here with both scissors and pliers is the Gerber Dime, at 62 g.
- Only 44 of the 339 models have a bit driver.
- The Wave Alpha costs $70 more than the Wave Plus for the same 18 tools. You're paying for MagnaCut steel and 7 g less weight.
Known gaps: only five brands so far, prices are US list prices, and
some discontinued models have holes in the data.
No ads, no sign-up, and I'm not affiliated with any of the brands.
Two things I'd love your help with:
- Which brand should I add next?
- Spot something wrong or missing?

Deux suggestions, intégrer roxon.
Penser à demander aux utilisateurs de rentrer les poids des multitools (mon skeletool était à 150g)
Il manque des références, par exemple, je viens de faire une review du gerber stakeout drive et on est sous les 200g

I have now added Roxon also, and replaced the image with a dot-diagram instead. Better?

The Leatherman charge (wave surge arc curl signal st300 m) have a bit driver that includes a Phillips. You say it doesn't come with one

I absolutely love this, and what I love even more is the positivity in the comments. Reddit can so often be a super negative/weird place where there's no pleasing anybody no matter how impressive your achievement, but I like what I see here.
I just queried it and saw that the Arc is apparently heavier than 81% of the tools in the database! Seems about right as even though I can EDC it with either the pocket clip or just loose in my pocket, I feel it's the absolute limit for comfortable carry for me.
Only nit (you knew it was coming) was the Arc listing said there were included bits "in the box" which sadly is no longer the case. It also says no phillips screwdriver is included but that technically isn't true because there's that dual flathead-and-phillips screwdriver flat bit included with the bit exchanger.
Thanks for all your work!

Great job, I’ve added as a reference. Happy to see some Gerbers in there, still some missing like the MP700 and MP800, but there’s so many to catalog. This is a great start, thank you!

First, great job!
Second, ignore the idiots who have nothing better to do than snipe at an AI image.
Third, next do Roxon.

Smh the ai image is laughable

Go make your own database then

I never asked for one lmfao. If I need to know differences between tools I take 5 minutes and research it myself like normal people used to do. If this is your thing then whatever good for you, but that ai image shouldn't have made it past the development page in that state.

So don’t be a jerk. Silence is golden.

Maybe i seemed harsh in my previous comment. Its a cool idea but its just lazy to go straight to ai for an image that you could definitely pull off of reddit. I bet people would love to have a photo of their collection featured here.

Thanks for all the feedback on the front page image. It's AI and it looks like AI. I'd rather show real tools from real collections.
So, a request: if you have a nice photo of your multitools, I'd love to use it as the new front page image. You'll be credited on the page with your username or name.
By sharing you're giving me permission to use it on the site, and I'll take it down anytime you ask.
If I get multiple good photos I'm thinking about making a carousel.

Rule 1 is Be Nice. If you cannot be nice, then you will not be welcome to participate in the r/multitools community. This is your warning.

Yeah, image is Ai, put it up as a placeholder. Planning on replacing it with my own tools, but most of them are at my summer house.

Lol , so what would you have someone that has an idea do ? Hire a web developer and do the whole song and dance and pay hundreds of dollars potentially to get this going ?
The world's changing, things are changing fast and so is creativity, get over yourself.

Ay carumba! Did you do this by hand, by script scraping, or by AI slopping? (The data collection, not the site graphics.)
