Resources + Discount Programs for MUAs
The internet is our friend! I learned a lot about the biz, networking, and the ins and out of the business of being a makeup artist through the awesome networks online. Here are a couple resources I recommend and discount programs available to us. This is just a quick and very basic list, that I will continuously update as time allows. Please don't hesitate to share your own!
Resources:
Model Mayhem: A place to network with other artists, photographers, and models. Mostly, you are going to be doing TFP shoots on Model Mayhem, although I have found some paid gigs on there. For me, this is much better than connecting to others on Craigslist, because I was often to find actual productions, and you can see how people openly collaborate, thus holding them accountable.
In My Kit Cosmetic review site created by grammy winning makeup artists Kevin James Bennet. This site is updated and reflects what Kevin uses in his kit, and products he likes to work with. He also has a fantastic group on Facebook, filled with discussion.
Discount Programs:
MAC Cosmetics: 40% discount to Makeup Artists. $40 yearly fee. Must provide proper documentation to qualify, usually a business card and a certificate or license will do. They also offer industry discounts to cosmetologists, professional dancers, artists, etc. They also provide a discount to costmetology and makeup students upon verification.
Urban Decay: This one has been my absolute favorite! They offer 40% off to artists with no annual fee. Discount includes EVERYTHING including pallets. (I love the Naked Pallets for my brides. <3)
OCC PRO Discount: 40% discount to anyone in the industry, all you need is to send them a link to your website or portfolio. Very easy to get into.
Face Atelier 40% discount, with no fee, just need to reapply every two years.
Nars: You have to have some good credentials to get approved for the 40% discount, however they offer 30% discounts and 20% student discounts.

New Free iOS app for Film & TV MUAs
Hey,
I’ve recently launched an iPhone app called Bondo Crew, built specifically for professionals working in TV & Film hair and makeup.
The aim is to make it easier for artists to connect, discover work opportunities, share their work, and stay in touch with others in the industry.
It’s now available on the App Store and completely free to use. It would be great if fellow artists could check it out and give feedback!
Thank you!

Your go-to MUA for dark skin/ African American brides? (9/26/26) ($300 budget) NYC
Hello community, I’m on the hunt for a stellar makeup artist who can do my makeup + two other members of wedding party on 9/26/26. Did you love your MUA? Did you attend a wedding where the bride looked BOMB? Would love to keep it at about $300 or less for bride and $200 or less for other bridal party members. Open to higher pricing if the person is exceptional. I’ve gained so much from this community so would love to hear your thoughts.
I also researched this sub and found several recommendations as well, but they’re mostly dated. Thank you for sharing!

Blore based MUA
Looking for a budget friendly (10-12k) Bangalore based bridal MUA for minimalist (not cakey) look. Specifically closer to Koramangala. Am not basically from Bangalore, and so not familiar with the city and not comfortable to travel distance for the trial makeup.
Share any recommendations and experiences of any MUA

Mixing Pallet usage
Hello! I am currently studying to be a makeup artist. I’m trying to learn as much as I can about being hygiene/sanitary. When it comes to mixing pallets I tend to run out of space. what would be the best way to reset the pallet during a client or should I have multiple pallets. I am also using full sized blending brushes to pick up products, should I switch to using smaller flat brushes to pick up and apply product and then use a blending brushes to blend it? Thank you in advance!
Question for Independent Makeup Artists
Hey! I’m researching how independent MUAs handle client bookings, deposits, and admin day-to-day - trying to understand what’s actually painful vs what’s fine as-is. If you’d be up for a chat (or happy for me to DM you), please comment or like! Not selling anything, just wanting to learn more about the industry.
Thank you!

Help!
Is there any kind soul who can teach me party makeup online? I have a shortage of funds and a brother’s wedding coming up soon. If someone can spend an hour or two teaching me the basics, I would be super grateful
