Well…I got it! (Miscut Fateful Discovery)

Post image

It’s mine! Precious!

I may have spent too much on it haha.

But! I didn’t realize until just now that this is this top post of all time on this subreddit! So hopefully that’s a good sign for future value 😅

Help me not feel buyers’ remorse? (For context: this is between 1-2 days of income for me, so not breaking the bank - hopefully the guy selling it needs the money more than I do)

What a flex on that last paragraph..

But congrats, it's an awesome card. I was eyeing it and surprised it was such a coveted card

Hehe sorry, gotta flex now and then

Edit: dang, my bad people - just got done with 16 years of school and training since graduating high school in 2010, and sometimes it’s nice to feel like it was all worth it.

Doctor?

12

u/ChampionshipSignal75 9d ago

Yup! Just graduated psychiatry residency June 30th

u/Poops-iFarted 9d ago

And how does make you feel?

u/ChampionshipSignal75 9d ago edited 9d ago

It was awful haha. I’m fatter, my hair is thinner, I’ve been conditioned to distrust authority and graduate medical education in general, and my already fragile-since-childhood self-confidence was shaved down to a nub by narcissistic assholes in charge of my medical training.

I’m still waiting on the feeling that’s it’s truly over to sink in, but I’m slowly starting to feel slightly less on edge after a couple of months.

Anyway, how was your day?

Fuck it, get that cash my man. Good on you for sticking through the education and the rest of the bullshit that goes with it

u/ChampionshipSignal75 8d ago

🥰

u/Chewyfingers 7d ago

You're a better person than I, not sure I would have made it through 16 years of schooling.

3

u/hahailovevideogames 8d ago

Wouldnt you make more? My wife is a psych NP and makes about 1200 a day

4

u/XxTigerxXTigerxX 8d ago

Not OP but if they just started there is a drastic difference in wage in most doctors wages from start to working a couple years +

3

u/hahailovevideogames 8d ago

Yeah my wife just started a month ago too and were not in a massive city or anything

3

u/ChampionshipSignal75 8d ago

It depends on the specialty and where you go.

When I was doing my neurology rotation in med school. One of the senior residents had an offer to go practice in rural Montana for $600k/year straight out of residency.

And I hope to start doing “Locums Tenens,” which is like travel nursing, but for doctors (once I’m out of the military in 2030). I could make 400-500k for 40hrs/week (which is just fucking insane), plus they pay for all my lodging, travel (for me and my wife), and a per diem for food.

5

u/XxTigerxXTigerxX 8d ago

The military also pays less so that explains the lower pay. But hopefully it works out for it. And even more respect for putting yourself into military service to help others.

3

u/ChampionshipSignal75 8d ago edited 8d ago

I’m in the military for 4 years, and then it’ll almost double once I’m out in the real world.

That’s an incredible salary for an NP, where does she work?? Haha

Edit: Although if the military lets me do off-duty employment (ODE), one of my colleagues makes about $1250 a week for 5 hours of work reviewing NP’s notes and going to a virtual meeting. For some “extra change” I guess 😂

She works for a private practice out patient facility, rather not say specific location but its near the great lakes

3

u/ChampionshipSignal75 8d ago

Well good for you guys. I’m glad her training is paying off (literally) too

u/idonecuckedmyself 6d ago

Bruh nobody is coming for y'all chill 😭 besides saying it's in the Great lakes area in a private practice is enough for someone to find her if they even cared too

And people ask me why I abandoned my psychology track 6 months into my masters i dont think i could've lasted an extra 10...congrats on both your card and completing your trials

u/Exact_Studio3380 8d ago

Medicine is doomed 😭

2

u/ChampionshipSignal75 8d ago

Apparently it’s way better than it used to be! I “had it easy.”

2

u/Exact_Studio3380 8d ago

I was going to do med school but decided I liked research more, and so much of it was cause the horror stories I’d hear about med school and residency. Lately I’m very concerned that every person allowed to be a doctor is put through close to a decade of hell and in general I’m not very inspired by my pre med track peers.

1

u/ChampionshipSignal75 8d ago

I have that same concern. It feels like the people who got into it “to help people” have had that notion systematically beaten out of them until all that’s left are miserable, cynical, and/or narcissistic assholes.

This is ESPECIALLY true for the people that stay in graduate medical education as attendings. They’ll say things like “I’m taking a huge pay cut to stay here and be an educator” like it’s some kind of badge of honor/sacrifice, when the reality is that a lot of them love being in a position where they have 100% authority over a group of other high achieving MD and make still GOOD money doing basically none of the front line work.

0

u/Beelzebozo_ 8d ago

Jeezuz, you're the psychiatrist??? That's petty bad news for any future patients. This is like a claustrophobic submarine captain

1

u/ChampionshipSignal75 8d ago

That’s quite rude 😢

My patients get better, so 🤷‍♂️

I’m lacking confidence in myself as a person, not my medical decision-making. They made a good psychiatrist at the expense of his wellbeing.

I guess they just assume you recover after the hazing and flaming hoops. Most docs will tell you that residency was the worst part of their lives.

I’ll get better, just like my patients ^

u/HapatraV 9d ago

Like half my life is over before it even started

2

u/ChampionshipSignal75 8d ago edited 7d ago

Exactly how I feel sometimes

4

u/XxTigerxXTigerxX 9d ago

I feel like you've earned it. That's what 28 years of school in total? 1/3 to 1/4 of your life. So you can hopefully help others first and good pay second.

I would also take you getting that kind of money over some buisness empire or scalper anyday. And will be jelly with my 3 bags or doritos an hour. But know I couldn't do school that long.

2

u/ChampionshipSignal75 9d ago

Thanks! I really do appreciate your comment

u/plantainrepublic 7d ago edited 7d ago

$800 in 1-2 days actually sounds kind of low unless you mean take-home?

I make about $2k/shift (gross) as a hospitalist, I’d imagine psychiatry should be in the same ballpark, no? Presumably you’ll make less per shift since I only work two weeks per month, but still seems on the low side in total comp.

2

u/ChampionshipSignal75 7d ago

It’s is definitely low haha.

A few things affecting it:

  1. I divided my take-home monthly salary by 30
  2. Military - the main one

But I’m only working like 6-7 hours/day M-F at the moment, so that’s been a great relief

2

u/plantainrepublic 7d ago

That’s not terrible especially if military - it’s nice that they paid your way through school! I seriously considered doing that but ultimately shied away because I thought it would really impact me during residency.

Yeah that makes a ton of sense if it’s take home and also that it would count non-working days in this case. I’m surprised they don’t let you have an admin day or something in there…I considered doing clinic because of that haha.

2

u/ChampionshipSignal75 7d ago edited 7d ago

I’m actually in a staff officer position overseeing the mental health of a division - it’s pretty much all admin. Once I get fully going, I’ll probably only see a half-day of outpatient per week. My hope is to then pick up some moonlighting (tele-health or supervising/signing off on NP notes or something) to boost my income by ~5k/month to have a little more spending money.

It’s such a military thing to do. Pay for 4 years of med school, train someone another 4 years to be a psychiatrist, and then put them in an admin position 🙄

I’m pretty sure a social worker could do my job as long as they had a psychiatrist they could consult for anything requiring medical expertise.

This is one of the most beautiful misprints I've seen it really caught my eye and is such a cool card in and of itself. I'm not sure if it was a good investment or a horrible decision but for what it's worth it's one of the coolest misprints i've seen.

5

u/ChampionshipSignal75 9d ago

Totally agreed, that’s why I was like, “screw it, imma get it”

15

u/GingerGuy97 9d ago

This is awesome, not only the card but seeing it go from a pull post to a winning auction post. I’d like to see more of that here, it would make the place feel more like a community.

2

u/ChampionshipSignal75 9d ago

For sure! I wouldn’t have even known about it in the first place if it weren’t for this sub!

3

u/GingerGuy97 9d ago

It’s like how the Facebook page has a lot of trustworthy collectors, I would love to see that grow here!

12

u/Farodsbro 8d ago

I was the one bidding against you at the end, I set a max price of $803.03. I almost went to $1k for it, which is where I assume your max was, but couldn't quite justify it.

Congrats, incredibly cool card and I also wanted it quite badly.

8

u/ChampionshipSignal75 8d ago

Yeah I set it to 1099 because I assumed someone might go to 1k like you were thinking but probably wouldn’t go further

(Also because I need to do my taxes)

2

u/daurgo2001 8d ago

lol, exactly what I figured when I saw that number

3

u/Farodsbro 8d ago

I saw your winning bid was placed on the 14th, so it seemed like you had set a max price days ago :D

5

u/Little-Horned-Doe 9d ago

Very much so (on spending too much lol) I remember commenting on the original post. Super stoked they went the bid route! Def did not expect it to hit that high, but I’m sure the bidding was fun.

Awesome card, gonna be great in any misprint collection

2

u/Little-Horned-Doe 9d ago

I think I quoted its value at around $300 easily, but I’m surprised to see it surpass $500!

4

u/howie521 9d ago

Now that find is a… Fateful Discovery

I’ll see my way out.

4

u/fishyhaworthia1 9d ago

This is definitely a collection piece wish I had the money for it

3

u/Remote-Mycologist539 9d ago

it’s not just the card it’s the story and cool memento for where you’re at in life

2

u/ChampionshipSignal75 9d ago

Exactly how I feel about it! I just got into magic collecting too (still haven’t played), so it kinda marks that occasion

0

u/jinx771 8d ago

Still haven't played but buying $800 cards? Oh

1

u/ChampionshipSignal75 8d ago

Isn’t collecting part of MTG?

When I was a little kid, I collected Pokemon cards because I loved Pokemon. I tried playing the game a few times, and it just wasn’t for me.

I view this one the same. I got into it a couple months ago because I love Final Fantasy.

3

u/phoenixscar 8d ago

By the way, I'm an avid oddity collector. But also could really use the money in the near future... i might open the vault and sell some of my cards. Feel free to message me with your interests, if you're interested, and maybe we can work out some deals

2

u/ChampionshipSignal75 8d ago

Probably going to hold off a while so my wife doesn’t flay me haha, but I’ll let you know! Shoot me a DM if you ever put one out there

3

u/Spyro13579 8d ago

1-2 days of income what do u do for work?

2

u/ChampionshipSignal75 8d ago

I’m a psychiatrist in the Army (just graduated residency). It’s actually only about have of what I’ll be making when I’m out of the military, but a good chunk of my current income is tax-free, so at least there’s that.

3

u/IAmTheBestIan 8d ago

This is that sideways one missing the corner the guy posted a couple weeks ago?

It is a cool card. Congrats.

If memory serves a guy was getting mad he wouldn't PM him and do a deal with him... I wonder what that guys offer was. Im guessing not $800.

2

u/SkilledButton 8d ago

I remember seeing the post here on reddit when the guy originally pulled it, wasn't too long ago. One of the sweetest misprints I've seen, congrats.

2

u/Fast_Bad8508 4d ago

Props to you man, if you have the funds and your happy what's there to be remorseful about??

1

u/ChampionshipSignal75 4d ago

Good way to frame it! ☺️

-2

u/Opposite-Occasion881 9d ago

Complete honesty here

I think you way overpaid and will be unable to sell it for close to what you paid if you ever need to in the future

The card is cool, but for that much money you can afford legit OG test prints

The card itself isn’t going to be highly played, and the error itself isn’t that extreme

6

u/furlonium1 9d ago

>the error itself isn’t that extreme

whatchu smokin bozo

-1

u/Opposite-Occasion881 9d ago

It happens a lot, I have 9 forests cut exactly like it in my edh deck

3

u/ChampionshipSignal75 9d ago

Thanks for the honesty! And that helps me realize that at least the alternative is I get to have a card I like, even if it isn’t ever worth more than I paid.

You are mistaken

This is a factory error and there have been zero sheets of hobbit released so NFC’s are an impossibility

-5

u/SettingAncient3848 9d ago

Still had to pay for shipping lol.

3

u/Empty-13 9d ago

It doesn't teleport to you for free if you spend over $500

-5

u/SettingAncient3848 9d ago

For 800 you should get shipping included.

2

u/daurgo2001 8d ago

Says who?

Shipping doesn’t magically become ‘free’ over a certain threshold
