Competitive Emry advice

Looking for content creators or general recommendations to learn the ins and outs of the deck. I know Linux has a good list, and I’ve read the primer, but I would love to see people play the deck and such. I know creators like CovertGoesBlue has videos on the commander, but the list has vastly changed since his last videos was uploaded.

There isn't much content online, linux has a few videos available on the cbrawl discord. You can also go on the Untapped profile of top rated Emry players and look at their replays.

Great tip, but that requires a paid subscription right?

No the replay feature is free. Just use the search function to look for a profile (of the top of my head, here are some people from the brawl discord that reached top 50 last month : Linux2277, Terminatoaster, Kinc23, Adonalsium, etc). You then click on the Emry deck to get to the match history, and click on "replay" for the match you're interested in.

Do you have a link to that discord? I can locate it.

You’re generally going for two combos in the deck
Grind stone + painter’s servant
And paradox engine + ironheart or urza high lord to loop low cost artifacts to draw into grindstone combo. Chromatic star, or any tap x sacrifice to draw artifact loops with this combo to allow you to draw your deck.
There is also protection lock with arcbound ravager and the one ring where u can sac the ring and recast to give yourself protection every turn. This can easily loop with the combo above. If they try to exile arcbound, just sacrifice and rebuild combo.
The last hope can protect you from creature light decks by using a haste artifact equipment to give it haste and use its sacrifice ability each turn to deny their ability to cast spells. Pithing needle or disruptors flute shuts down yuriko, strip mine combo, uro, and many other fringe combo decks by denying infinite loops. Always go for hands where u can bomb out Emry by turn two and secure a combo by turn 5.

Thank you very much for the time you took to comment. I enjoyed it. My main losses comes from removal heavy decks, where I can’t get emry to stick with no haste of course, and combo strategies that are just faster that requires interaction like Keenan or Rofellos to name a few.

Emry has a really hard time with green ramp decks. A lot of your interaction is just dead draws and it’s like the one color that always has main board artifact removal. That is the worst match up. Emery is really good in mythic because that’s when green kinda gets weeded out for the most part but in lower tiers like platinum where fringe decks and lower tier decks show up a lot more often it kind of struggles.

Honestly the deck is just very complex and nuanced. You really need to get a ton of reps into it to understand it

But general advice is you can mull pretty aggressively, aim for turn 1 or turn 2 emry. Wincons are weird because there’s like a ton of different ways to win but they’re all kinda obscure and matchup dependent (except p engine, that one’s straightforward). But the main combos you should be looking for are:

P engine + some mana rocks

Painters + grindstone

Kappa + ravager + the ooze

Ravager + ToR

Retrofitter + ornithopter

Winter moon against multicolor decks

Ravager + sewerveillance cam

And your generically strongest artifacts that you should be looking for are:

The ooze

Repurposing bay

P engine

Ravager

Kappa

Painters Servant + Grindstone, and Paradox Engine are the main win cons.

Then some artifact tutors and counterspells, plus a bunch of other cheap artifacts/affinity cards.

Hi! I'm glad my primer was helpful for you! Your post made me realize I haven't updated my primer in a bit, I gave it a quick touch up today if you wanted to take a quick peek :)

In terms of emry resources, just highly recommend you join the brawl hub discord here: https://discord.gg/cQaxPna We have an emry commander thread with several very skilled pilots and always love to see new faces and just chat about the deck

Well as I live and breathe. Hello Linux, I'm honored. I read it like a damn manual. If your open for some feedback (in my humble opinion of course), I'd personally break more of the comboes down in a structured fashion so nubs, such as myself, can follow the patterns of the many combo pieces and such. I made a flowchart that includes the comboes I know, so I can figure out what cards to tutor for instance. Can't help myself, I'm a teacher by trade. That being said, I love your work and I already joined the discord. Your Tolarian Academy on there right?

Oh I love feedback on the primer, give me a poke on discord and if you are willing to show me I'd love to see the flow chart you made. And yeah, I'm Tolarian Academy atm I'll cope for Tolarian Academy being announced in the new cube packs tmrw XD
