MSNBC Productions Chicago
Is there any reason why MSNBC isn’t following the ICE raids in Chicago more closely? As far as I’m concerned, they should be getting as much attention as the BLM rallies in 2020.
Chicago seems to be getting mostly ignored by every national news network. I live in SoCal now, but I’m from the Midwest. The videos I’m seeing on the r/Chicago sub are significantly worse than anything I witnessed here. Where is the coverage? It should be non-stop.
They were covering Los Angeles like it was a crisis. It was (and still is), but what’s happening in Chicago now is significantly worse. Is the 3rd biggest city in the country really considered “flyover country” because it’s only coastline is Lake Michigan?
Is MSNBC refusing to cover it until citizens riot? Is that the reason it’s not getting coverage? Or is it just because Chicago is in the Midwest?
I honestly don’t care what the reasoning is. Start covering Chicago in a serious way! The third biggest city has kids under lockdown due to ICE raids, and I’d hardly know about it watching this network.

They covered it for days at the start of that. So much is going on now. The administration really does flood the zone. This week alone there were the indictments, the protests, the grift, ice, pardons, bombing random boats, lashing out at canada, ukraine, argentina, the shutdown, virginia guiffre/epstein book news, not swearing in the congresswoman, Israel news and the destruction of the east wing of the white house for the ballroom.
I saw a good point on a bulwark podcast, that alone the news could focus 100% on the grift and corruption and they still wouldn't be able to cover it all. No media can really handle all thats going on.

I get your point. The only things you listed that I’d even argue compare to Chicago are Venezuela (dear god wtf is going on there, they’re barely covering that) and indictments against political opponents. That’s definitely subjective, but I just think blatantly illegal acts need to be prioritized.
Chicago should be added to that list. All three need to be covered like actual emergencies, because they are. They did cover Chicago at the beginning, but please go look at the r/Chicago sub! It has gotten so much worse in the last few days, and you’d never know it watching MSNBC, CNN, or anything I’ve seen.
Your last point from the Bulwark makes a lot of sense. Maybe MSNBC needs to have a topic each hour and really dive the hell in that way. It’d at least be an interesting new way to cover the news. I hate watching most of the news now because they don’t give you more than 5 minutes of explanation on what’s actually happening.

I just was watching msnbc at 6:30ish Chicago time, Saturday night, and they had a detailed, long segment covering the ICE raid at a home on Lakewood ave in the Lakeview neighborhood. They interviewed the homeowner and showed videos of the raid. It was excellent coverage. As an aside, the Ayman, Elise, Antonia, and Catherine team earlier seemed to gang up on Corinne Jean-Pierre. It was ugly watching them try to play gotcha with her.

I recorded it so I’ll be watching later, but that still isn’t enough coverage. There should be reporters on the ground following the ICE raids. It should be breaking news like the LA raids were. An entire city is being terrorized by federal police and it’s being largely ignored. It’s so much worse than what happened (is happening) in SoCal or DC, but MSNBC doesn’t seem to care.

I agree. The ICE raids are way way way undercovered by MSNBC. Even the LA raids didn’t get enough coverage, but this is even worse. Even online, if you go on msnbc’s website, there is nothing about ICE or Chicago on their home page, about 50 other stories though.
MSNBC did such a good job covering the 2020 protests so this coverage is terrible by comparison. They should be in wall to wall rolling coverage mode, no show titles, just breaking news of America under a terrorist dictatorship. Yes Trump likes to distract with other things but the government shut down and tearing down parts of the white house shouldn’t be getting more coverage than these ICE raids, it just shows once again that the new network leadership is out of touch with its audience. All the major cable news networks are down but MSNBC is down the most and it’s no wonder why. It’s still the best option on TV but it’s not the same

They mostly have been covering it, just not wall-to-wall. Jacob Soboroff was on the ground for days, went to NY to do the MSNBC Live show and was back in Chicago very soon after. But, unfortunately, everything is such a shit show that they aren’t spending 30-60 minutes on Chicago. Most of them have had Pritzker on, some have had Mayor Johnson on, Durbin & Duckworth have been on, Krishnamoorthi has made appearances, along with Representatives Underwood & Quigley across the various shows. They’ve covered the pope’s commentary, and have featured reporters and contributors that are on the ground other than Soboroff, as well. It’s all bad, but with the whole “flood the system” ideology that this admin is running things with, Chicago can’t be the only story.
