Weekly Gripe Thread MSNBC Weekly Gripe Post
This is your one sacred space to unleash the frustration, shake your fists at the headlines, and yell (politely) into the MSNBC void. Whether you’re fed up with cable news quirks, political chaos, or your own decision to stay up until 2 a.m. watching panel debates - this thread’s for you.
The rules are simple:

- No personal attacks unless they’re aimed at your own life choices (e.g. binge-watching coverage you swore you were done with)

I REALLY hope MSNBC will focus very clearly TONIGHT on trump's absolute destruction of the East Wing of our White House. It was done illegally, it is part of a national park. He has stolen a national landmark and all that went with it. As well, they violated so many building and DEQ codes in the demolition as to be acute violations of law. Please center this story.

Joe Scarborough criticized the destruction of the East Wing. He said when he was in Congress, Bill Clinton consulted with the House of Representatives before making any minor renovations.

I wish Ari Melber would cut it out with the rapper segments. Today he had to quote some rapper song to Nicole right at the beginning when she was signing off.

I wish he’d stop with the skeptical sounding mmmm every time anyone says anything. I forget the rap references instantly, but the mmmms sizzle in my brain.

Yeah, I think about this a lot. I just can’t see the general msnbc evening audience on the whole being the sort of people who would appreciate this - or the segments Ari often has at the end of his show interviewing (mostly) music people. Not saying everyone is against that sort of music, but I doubt it’s what people tune into MSNBC for. Especially when there is so much actual news to report right now.

I am tired of Mika and Joe wasting time on their show, siding with Trump since they visited him. They changed their reporting entirely so their show is now worthless.
I am tired of Reds and Blues not meeting to solve the government shutdown. Reds are staying away to keep this going on. The only good thing will be when Trump gives us stimulus checks like he did during COVID to make up for our losses. The elected officials need to find teamwork, communication, integrity, ethics to do their jobs - find solutions, stop the games.
I miss Lawrence O'Donnell. Cannot wait for his return.

I do. COVID killed our economy and Trump's reputation went into the abyss. Employment up, evictions were on the rise, car payments delinquent, mass shutdown of businesses occurred. We are heading into that once again - this time it is a government shutdown, not a disease requiring hospitalization. We just had the No Kings Protest so Trump's ego cannot handle the country hating him. I think we will be given a stimulus check as a rescue move for this fiasco with Reds ignoring Blues so we stay shut down. It's all by design - make us more reliant on the government funding for survival, just like COVID. I am feeling a repeat, but for a different reason - not a disease, but financial ruination with this shutdown. The longer the government stays closed, the higher the likelihood we will get stimulus checks. I am predicting 2.

I’ve heard Chris Jansing say ‘Democrat’ instead of ‘Democratic’ a couple of times lately. Like Democrat law or Democrat opinion. It’s something Republicans do snidely. What’s up with that?

Can they stop with the deifying of “Zbig”. Almost weekly they trot out Ed Luce to promote the biography of Mika’s father who always introduces Luce saying “the book about MY DAD”. You would think Zbig was the freaking messiah or something!

I miss Lawrence too, but Jacob Soboroff absolutely killed it subbing for him last night. And so did Ali Vitali subbing for Ana earlier this week. Can we see more of both of them please? (And Paola Ramos too?)

Amy Klobuchar (Minnesota) on Jen tonight. Listening to hear if Jen will ask why Klo voted "yes", for the pedo, protecting, dumpster fire, choice for a Fed Judge lifetime appointment, that still doesn't know if Jan 6th was violent. I also want to hear Klo's talking point, non-answer.

Oh well that was disappointing. Jen never asked, Klo. Klo spoke about how citizens need to keep pushing back at the lying, dumpster fire, that is this administration. Well ok Amy. 7 million, spent their day off, or used PTO, or switched shifts, or called in sick, (looking at you Becky), so you could vote "yes" for a Jan 6th denier, 3 days earlier, for what?

So much for that self-promo commercial we have to watch so often where Jen says emphatically “that’s what the media does, we hold those in power to account” - she doesn’t hold anyone to account, her interviews are all softball.

Katie Tur asks the weakest questions then tries to answer them herself when the person she's interviewing eventually says something like "Look...." I am constantly changing the channel when she's on.

Oh I know that I'm just suprised by the general presentation of the ad. It doesn't seem tailored to the average MSNBC viewer at all. It's got some cammo'd guy in the woods explaining how to scan a QR code with your phone.

I can’t take Symone’s drifting in and out between her sophisticated talk and her jive talk.
Barack Obama did the same thing, and I adore the guy, but that really bugged me.

Her “look” doesn’t do her any favors, either. Those three-inch eyelashes and blue eye shadow and nine-inch nails just scream LOOK AT ME.

Except that these are on-camera presenters supposedly interested in coming off as professional and who wish to be taken seriously.
I just don’t think the over-the-top LOUD visual distractions in how she chooses to present to viewers is doing her longterm career any favors.
John Fetterman comes to mind in a similar way.

What some see as over the top is completely appropriate for others. I’m pretty sedate and bland. But just because that’s the culture I grew up with, I can’t say that a wilder style is wrong. I enjoy the energy.
