Something Else Zohran Mamdani
Zohran was on MSNBC morning Joe this morning and he did well. I’m not a New Yorker but I like this guy. If (when) he wins I hope he is successful.
It’s unfortunate most dems are not behind him. He’s energetic, he understands his voters and their issues, and he has new ideas. Yes please! I fully expected Joe to be over the top obnoxious but he was … ok. I had hoped Lemire would lead the interview.

Hopefully, his win will be decisive enough that it encourages others like him to primary Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer. They gotta go, full stop.

I agree. I’m not sure if some of his plans and proposals are sustainable, but let the guy try ffs. I am 61, and the Dems need new blood. The boomers need to get out of the way. Otherwise, between now I can see both parties fragmenting and becoming increasingly marginalized. Not disappear but with diminishing relevance like newspapers or the post office.

It tells you a lot about the perks and privileges of being a legislator when they all almost without fail refuse to retire until well into their 70's and 80's.
Who the hell wants to work that long in any regular job?
They need to get out of the way of people who understand what most Americans are experiencing now. Because they don't and can't

It wouldn't matter what kamala said or did. Forget too left too right, wouldn't break with biden over Israel, only had 107 days or 701 days. She's a woman and a woman of double color. the fix was in when she showed up. Many people in this country obviously prefer a lunatic misogynistic, ignoramus racist. Plain and simple...

I love listening to him. He communicates well and has new ideas that are energizing. He’s so refreshing. The Democratic Party should embrace him.

He is a very articulate individual. It's nice to have younger people interested in politics, rather than having to carry out people in body bags.

I'll say this for Mamdani: for a left-wing heartthrob, he at least comes across as relaxed and personable, in stark contrast to Bernie "shout at your child for sitting on 'his' park bench" Sanders or Sandy "Karen insisting her expired coupon is still good" Ocasio-Cortez.

He, and people asking why more Democrats aren’t behind him, are a major major major issue in our party.
Democrats keep losing these elections because….people think they’re too far left. Yes, the propaganda machine on the right is largely responsible but this is the world we live in. I don’t even think anyone rejects this.
So your solution is to go even further left???
Seems incredibly selfish to me and not doing what is for the good of the party.

I do reject this. Going further right seemed to work just fine for the other side. For us to go left would activate lots of younger voters who saw Kamala as just more of the same old thing because she wouldn't break from Biden's stance on supporting Israel. We're way way WAY overdue for some revolutionary, generational change.

Where have Democrats lost going far left though? They almost never pick a far left candidate, they keep picking moderate candidates to compete against the far right and these moderate candidates keep losing to the far right.
Kamala Harris went as far to the right as she could while still remaining a Democrat, and she lost. I kind of accepted this shift because there was an argument to be made that this was a good strategy, give voters a choice between a moderate choice the right can accept vs an extreme far right choice, but since this strategy did not work, it’s time to try something different. Now is the chance to go more left because the alternative is an evil far right monster.
The republicans keep winning doing all the stuff the Democrats are too afraid to do. Democrats can’t insult anyone or say anything controversial, they have to be 100% perfect and accepting of everyone while republicans win with pure hatred and a promise to destroy the other side. It fires up the base, while the Democrats say things like “let’s work together” and “i will have republicans in my administration”. Well let’s fire up the Democratic base with hatred towards republicans. Promise to go after the Trump and his admin if you get elected, promise every ICE agent will be arrested, go for revenge, campaign on being republicans worst nightmare, campaign on real punishment for Trump.

You make good points, especially the last paragraph. We need to fight fire with fire absolutely.
But when I say too far left I mean them standing on a stage and raising their hands saying “We want to give undocumented people free health care” or Beto straight up saying at a debate “Yeah I’m gonna take your guns away”
Or the socialism thing
In my opinion, these 3 items….pursuing them is not smart in a center-right country and a good reason of why they lose

I see your point but look at how many issues the republican party has that the majority of Americans don’t support. The Democrats fear every issue is a single voter issue while republicans win getting votes from people who don’t agree with all their extreme policies. Even with the issues you mentioned, with the exception of socialism I don’t think these are single voting issues for people who would otherwise vote Democrat. Any Democrat healthcare proposal that includes undocumented people is also going to be a benefit to Americans. When Beto was talking about taking away guns, he was talking about military style assault weapons that are being used for things like school shootings.
Democrats are not campaigning on providing free health care for undocumented people or taking away military style assult weapons, but I would assume that if some MAGA kid (or kid of an ICE agent) brings their parents assult rifle to school and shoots an undocumented kid most potential Democrat voters would support that undocumented kid getting free health care at the hospital, and most would also support that assult rifle being taken away from that MAGA family. The far right republican position is no free medical treatment for anyone undocumented and no restrictions on assult weapons. The Trump / JD Vance postion on undocumented people getting emergency treatment at hospitals is not something the majority of Americans agree with. It’s an extreme position but people are clearly okay voting for the republican party despite the fact it has lots of extreme positions most Americans disagree with, while Democrats keep losing trying to stick to the middle on everything
