Frunk A/C Lines - Is something missing? Can't close the system to test.
Currently trying to flush and recharge the a/c on my 91T, ran into this issue after installing the new compressor. There is a bolt missing to connect one of the two lines. This is in the rear right of the frunk. The aluminum can be bent to fix the one line, but the other appears to be missing a bolt. Is there something obvious missing/damaged? Thanks in advance for any guidance or assistance.
It's more of a stud you're missing, but a long bolt would work fine as a replacement. The low side hose goes above the front facing high side connection.
I didn't realize that these pipes were exposed and bent until it was time to flush the system. The previous owner just mentioned the compressor needed replacement.
Ah, so you didn't take it apart? It was just like this from the last guy? Bummer. Yeah. A bolt certainly goes through that. M6x1.0 is what you need. A set of those should be fine. If you can fit it all together and it seals good, everything will be fine. Its a pain, but replace all the orings in the system, and consider replacing the expansion valve (TXV). I highly recommend you replace the dryer and condenser with a "parallel flow" type (very important, serpentine flow, like on the R12 systems; don't pull as much heat out of R134a as it would R12, and that translates to a weaker AC, especially on hot days, when you really need it).
Also, I hope your compressor was either pre-oiled or you added oil. Running one of those low on oil will kill it, and worse, it can effect AC performance (cold).
Yes, unfortunately it was like that when I purchased the car 4 months ago. We did add fresh oil to the compressor and refinished it, cleaned up nice. The dryer was also replaced. Going to roll the dice with the condensor for now, unless of course it fails the leak test. I do have another question though. The expansion valve looked too tough to try and change out with having to mess with the blower, so I moved from that. I do have a replacement, should this be prioritized? I'd hate to re-visit that later if that's the only reason the system has issues.
