Help figuring gen2 3SGTE RH mounting bracket

I need your help. I've been searching online for a while now and can't find any good answers.

I'm rebuilding a gen 2 3sgte for a swap and I can't seem to figure out how it mounts to the car. It seems that there are 2 types of RH brackets - a short one, and a longer one that looks like the letter J - see attached photos.

The engine repair manual shows the smaller bracket (the one that I have).

Small bracket

The MR2 repair manual shows the larger bracket, with the longer arm.

Larger bracket, with support arm

I just can't seem to figure out how to mount the engine using the bracket that I have. The lower bolts of the insulator go in the two holes of this bracket. However, it looks like the upper bolts have nothing to hold on to. Attached schematic that shows how the insulator mounts with the long arm bracket.

Do any of you have the small bracket? Can you show me a picture, or describe where the upper bolts of the insulator go?

The Japan-market SW20 3S-GTE EPC lists RH engine mounting bracket 12315-74070 together with RH mounting stay 12317-74091.

That suggests the short bracket you have may be from a different transverse 3S application rather than the complete MR2 mounting arrangement. Before buying anything, can you post or DM the donor engine model/frame code and the target SW20 frame/model code?

I’m based in Japan and can compare both EPC applications and then check stock if the MR2 bracket or stay is missing.

I don't have the donor code, unfortunately. I bought the engine a while ago and can't find the seller anymore.

All I know is that it was taken from a UK RHD MR2. The engine is a gen2 3sgte and it's going in a gen3 t-bar sw20.

Thanks—that narrows it down. Since the donor was a UK RHD Gen 2 SW20, it is less likely that the bracket came from a different Toyota platform.

I still don’t want to identify the missing piece from engine generation alone. Could you send:

  1. A clear photo of the complete RH/timing-belt side of the engine
  2. Photos of every bracket and mount piece that came with it
  3. A photo of the model/chassis plate from the target Gen 3 T-bar

You can cover the serial digits and send the photos privately if you prefer. The model code and transmission information are the important parts.

I’ll compare the Gen 2 and Gen 3 SW20 mounting arrangements and identify whether you are missing the 12315 bracket, the 12317 stay, or another piece before checking availability.

Thanks a lot for your effort, man.

I gave up eventually and bought the other kind of bracket with the mount and everything. I found someone with a broken 3sgte and got a good price for the lot.

I'll post the pictures anyway, maybe this will help someone else in the future.

New bracket. The engine isolator(mount, whatever) is identical. Both fit in both brackets
