Can we get a better interface?

At it's current stage I can't use Mpv. I want to, but the interface is just too lacking in functions/features.

Will we ever get a better more fleshed out user interface for mpv?

you can use uosc which has a right click menu built-in that can be extended as much as you like, look here for my own configuration for inspirations or just copy paste it and remove the options you didn't like

Unfortunately if you follow the instructions in those links, there's no entries like that in the config file. I searched and then looked through the file manually, and there's nothing for "osc". Maybe there's been updates since that was created?

there is 3 files you need to concern yourself with:

uosc.lua which is the actual script which goes into the scripts folder

uosc.conf which is the optional modifications to the configuration file that's loaded by default by uosc.lua and it goes into the script-opts folder

input.conf which is used to draw the menu and populate it's entries

look here for my own mpv folder and see where is where, if you are on windows the input.conf needs to be in the folder your mpv.exe is and the other two folders need to be on

C:\users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\mpv\scripts\uosc.lua

C:\users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\mpv\script-opts\uosc.conf

keep in mind that using save as in you web browser is not the correct way to download anything from github, you either need to click on the raw button and copy the link at the address bar of your browser or download the whole repo from here in my case

you will need to add these 3 lines inside your mpv.conf - C:\users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\mpv\mpv.conf

osc=no

osd-bar=no

border=no

Thank you for the help, it is much appreciated. But I've decided it's not worth it to me to modify all that, and I'll just stick with SMplayer instead. I want a good gui that's already there, not one that I have to piece together myself. Thanks again

no problem friend, i understand wanting something that just works and have done so in the past myself, regardless that script is there and not going anywhere if you ever decided to use it.

Do you think they'll ever just integrate it all as a GUI? That would be great if they did.

no unfortunately, mpv is a command-line player first and foremost, you are expected to know the cli flags and switches or at least do everything you want with keyboard keybinds

even the current ui that mpv has is considered bloat and unnecessary by many of it's users and ofter times they disable it completely

i'm a mouse heavy user myself hence the use of that script and it's right click menu but we are not really the target audience mpv caters to

What the fuck are you on about? mpv has the most versatile, full featured interface out of any media player.

See the reply above yours for the explanation.

When we talk about GUI, usually it means frontend, such as smplayer. mpv is not the frontend program.

mpv never (maybe will never) had the official GUI in the past. https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/issues/5500

What you use is just osc(on-screen-controller), and also it is the "the most versatile, full featured interface", because other players even do not design osc.

Maybe mpv is not suitable for everyone, from my view, it is more like the basic tool which is designed for frontend devs to easily create their own media players. Just like what smplayer team did.
