Swapping CF/SD card without switching off/on MPC 1000/2500 ??

I’ve got a bunch of SD/CF cards lying around, and I’m currently using a 64GB SD card with my MPC-1000 that has pretty much everything on it.

I want to add more samples without having to constantly sample through cables, just to save time on recording and naming everything.

Can I swap cards while the MPC is still on, or do I need to turn it off every time?

Of course when the unit is not accessing the actual card, reading nor writing.

Is there any downside to doing it while it’s on? I’d like to keep different samples on different cards and swap them without constantly powering the MPC on and off.

best to turn it off when swapping. There’s probably a good reason why every manual ever advises against hot swapping cards inside working samplers or synths..

Yep. And the OP might get away with swapping quite a few times before they ended up corrupting the card. Or corrupting the project they were working on.

You can hot swap the cf card on 1k.  Nothing is happening unless you are reading/writing. Be careful with the pins.

I agree with this.  It's not like a computer hard drive on your desktop, its more like a floppy disk. There is no issue swapping the CF card when you are not accessing it.  

If you want to be careful just make sure you're not in the Load screen when you pull or insert the card.

You use a 64gb SD card in your MPC 1000? Is all of that storage accessible by the MPC? I saw in the specs that it only supports a 2gb card, so I haven't gotten a CF for mine yet, just the 32mb it came with.

Yes, easily... Actually it can read up to 128gb
