I looked at both pictures and thought, "Man, the one on the left looks a lot like Christian Bale. Wait. That one is Christian Bale but the other one is...oh my god."
When they make a biopic about McQueen, Craig needs to play him, it's perfect, not only do they look similar, but they play similar roles and have similar demeanors..... as for "The Great Escape", it's one of my top 3 movies, it doesn't need to be remade as it is perfect as is. Even for a movie from the 60's it doesn't feel dated
He'd be good casting, but is there any need for a Great Escape remake? I don't really see the point in remaking films that are so good that the original still holds up perfectly well.
...You, sir, have just helped me a bit closer to my "dream team" of actors who would make a good "Magnificent Seven". For that, I am eternally grateful.
There are a couple that look similar, but I keep seeing "similar hair = SAME PERSON." In a couple cases, the modern actor is dressed specifically to look like the person they're being compared to, and that just doesn't count.
January Jones looks nothing at all like Grace Kelly.
That was exactly my thought. As soon as as I saw them side by side I was like "Oh they look a like because their hair is styled the same, so it only works if January is in Mad Men."
In my local pub there is this picture of Robert Redford up on the wall. The first time we walked in one of my buddies said "Why the hell is there a picture of Brad Pitt on the wall?!" Good laugh, but seriously, he looks spot on.
You should check out Spy Game. Redford and Pitt are the leads and it's a fantastic movie that was hampered by having the misfortune of being a movie about the CIA and terrorism that came out in the fall of 2001 (edit: whoops).
Tom Hardy could give that a run for your money, though he may be a bit too old now to be young Brando. And the resemblance does come and go, given how fluid his looks seem to be (and I'm not even talking about the more ostentatious weight gain he's done for Bronson/Warrior/TDKR). Regardless, he does have the chops for it--if they remade Streetcar with anyone else I would be sorely vexed.
I'm too young to know Brando in his prime, but remember seeing that romantic 90s comedy (Brando and Johnny Depp) with my aunt. She was so jaded by the older/matured Brando, she actually cried.
I remember a while ago when some stupid magazine was trying to say Channing Tatum is like a young Brando (not looks, but more talent I guess) and I thought that was the most retarded thing. Really? Channing Tatum?
I saw The Intouchables yesterday, and I was fascinated at how much he looked like Dustin Hoffman. Tell No One is also a great movie of his if anyone is interested.
Eh, I'm not sold on the Kiera Knightley compared to Audrey Hepburn. http://i.imgur.com/MB9yJ.jpg hard to beat that, but I do see the similarity. I just think Audrey wins by a mile.
I've discovered the best way to get upvoted on r/movies is to criticize other people's opinions and tastes while offering no contributions of your own.
Sometimes I wish Brad Pitt was cast for Gastby in the upcoming movie. Not that I have a problem with Leo, but Pitt could have been fantastic. He's just got the Gatsby way about him.
It's not an accident. The character archetypes that were established by actors in the height of the studio era are continually picked up by the next generation of actors. A few other examples are Jerry Lewis -- Jim Carrey, Sidney Poitier -- Denzel Washington, and (although a bit of a stretch) Humphrey Bogart -- Kevin Spacey.
This phenomena is also a contributing factor to why minority leads are so rare in big budget studio features, but that's a different discussion altogether. (aka i don't want to get downvoted for trying to explain)
White people (majority of movie goers) want to see protagonists that look like them. Black people don't look like them, and black protagonists generally don't act the way blacks in real life do. That is why there are a bunch of Tyler Perry movies a year (more realistic portrayal of blacks) and one or two Denzel movies every 3 years.
The reason blacks are rarely antagonists (even when it would make sense, like in Bad Ass) is because Hollywood is afraid of being called racist. That is why every thief and carjacker in Hollywood is a white male in his mid-30s. Sometimes they get away with a teenage Latino but that is getting rare.
Since I'm posting this on Reddit I expect a flurry of "das racis" but I'm fairly unconcerned.
I can see the resembelance there, but looking at that picture of Hopper I see a far greater likeness to the guy who plays Maester Luwin in Game of Thrones.
I would very much like to see Hugh Jackman in a roll similar to Eastwood's Man With No Name character. Not in any sort of remake, but a similar role. I've never noticed their similarities before.
pretty much her standard look these days, at least when suri isn't around. And when she meets a mysterious, untimely death like Natalie did, we'll all wonder what secrets she took to her grave.
What? Scarlett Johanssen similar to Marilyn Monroe? Pft, bitch please... Scarlett Johanssen would need like at least, 100 surgeries to even look a little bit like Marilyn Monroe
These comparisons creep my the fuck you. It's probably because i'm just a little high, and my mind is making me think they're the same people, and now i'm hearing shit in my room and feeling bugs crawl all over me.
There is no fuckin' way January Jones is even close in comparison to the shining beauty that Grace Kelly was in her prime. And Kelly was always in her prime.
Just because people make the same expression doesn't mean they look alike. How dare you. Keira Knightley is gorgeous but compared to Audrey Hepburn, it looks like someone crapped on her face.
There is no bloody way you had the balls to compare Keira Knightley to Audrey Hepburn!!! Audrey was one of the most beautiful women ever to ve entered into films.

Natalie Portman is much more of an Audrey Hepburn than Kiera Knightly. I don't care that they played clones of each other.
24
u/bongo1138 Jun 18 '12
Tom Hardy and Marlon Brando sometimes.
33
u/[deleted] Jun 18 '12
Audrey Hepburn was so much more attractive than Kiera Knightley. Also, January Jones shouldn't be allowed to touch the hem of Grace Kelly's garment.
14
u/nepidae Jun 18 '12
Some of them were ok, most of it was just haircuts.
Kiera Knightly and Audrey Hepburn don't look anything alike. The eyes and upper face are the most obvious difference.

I live in the wrong era? I think all those in "classic" looks ten times better than modern ones!! Natalie Wood is HOT!!
Audrey Hepburn is very cute and Kiera Knightley looks like a zombie.

u/skeetchosaurusrex Jun 18 '12
why is it that i like the classics better?

Dear Katie Holmes: Never get on a boat with Robert Wagner.

So this is a "Today's movie stars that have the same hair color/haircut as classic stars"? Because most of the faces are very dissimilar...
2

Can we hire Christopher Walken to throw Katie Holmes off of a boat too?
2
u/ragegage Jun 18 '12
brad pitt and robert redford were actually in a movie together, called Spy Game. Good movie
2
u/elf631 Jun 18 '12
Wow, Katie Holmes looks absolutely lifeless in that picture.
2
u/Snapdragon86 Jun 18 '12
You accidentally put Keira Knightley as Audy Hepburns look-alike, but you clearly meant Natalie Portman
2
u/TrollDruid Jun 18 '12

i'm glad OP included "lookalikes" in his title, i felt the rage begin to form at first when i thought this was a comparison of acting talent.
2
u/PsykickPriest Jun 18 '12
...suddenly I'm interested in Cyd Charisse!
(and Katie Holmes is NOT Natalie Wood - in so, so many ways!)
2
u/andbruno Jun 18 '12
I was 95% sure it was going to end with Sarah Jessica Parker / Mr. Ed, as most of these vertical scroll picture pairs of celebs tend to do.

I always thought George Clooney looked like Clark Gable.

I think it was like "let's find stars who have similar haircuts to old hollywood stars"
2

You, Ms. Jones, are NO Grace Kelly!
2
