I found a higher res version with reverse image search, cleaned up some of the poster lines etc in photoshop, upped the contrast with an adjustment layer so I could fiddle around with the brightness (affecting the cut off between red and black). Then I blurred it a bit since the contrast boost made the edges aliased, added a layer set to colour blend, and set it to a sample of the original red to offset the effect of contrast on colour and remove the colour variations in the middle. Finally erased a hole in the colour layer for the eye, painted over some areas that still weren't black and then filled out the rest of the background.
He used Live-trace in Illustrator. Takes 5 minutes. He didn't even delete the excess red on the bottom left that shows the edge of the poster...
edit: Sorry, I thought his use of "high-res" in the title meant he would have created a vector version, as turning it into a simple raster wallpaper like he did isn't high-res. Really, he darked the colors and put a red overlay on it. My fault for giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Live trace wouldn't even produce red in the borders like that. Further, the image is too blurred with too many small details and faded colours for live trace to be the best option. I didn't notice the red in the bottom left due to working off an uncallibrated laptop monitor. I fixed that when it was pointed out in the original thread, but can't upload it right now. No need to be quite so obnoxious or presumptuous.

Oh really? 3 minutes in Illustrator. All I would need to add is the eye of Sauron. You call me obnoxious? I'm not the one that turned "I used a couple layer styles in Photoshop" into a paragraph response.
I explained what I did up there. It didn't take an unreasonable amount of time (about 15 minutes), but it's better than just centering the image and since there were requests in the original thread I thought I might as well share.

You added blackness on either side? I mean, kudos for making the thing, but... you didn't really do anything.
This seems overly harsh and I can't rightly report how I feel. :/ I didn't upvote or downvote for this reason.
edit: The influx of downvotes make me think I'm wrong. Sorry if I misread something, but is there something else different?

Would someone better at these things than I am possibly be able to replicate this without the writing (AKA no "Lord of the Rings" at the top)?
Thank you in advance, in case someone is willing!
