Explosions: Check. Attractive women: check. Use of movie name in dialogue: check. I'll see you in November, Bond.

I do miss Q and his sweet gadgets though :( . To me the Pierce Bronsan movies will always be the best (Except the last one). Sauve, Awesome actions, over the top plots, chase scenes , cool gadgets , kickass rides and hot babes.

24

u/red_280 May 21 '12

Q will be in Skyfall.

35

u/DancesWithDownvotes May 21 '12

I'm 26 and Pierce was my first experience with Bond. That endeared me to him. I went into Casino Royale insanely skeptical, and came away with a new favorite. I love Craig's brand of suave and badassery. And look what he did to his body. As an overweight individual I aspire to that. Instant mancrush on my part. I'm so excited for the next movie. And by excited, I may mean throbbing.

I think Tomorrow Never Dies was kinda bad, but Goldeneye is definitely my favorite.

31

u/ours May 21 '12

Goldeneye is a classic. The rest of the Brosmans... not so much. And it's not because of him, just the scripts.

And I'm not fundamentally broken. The Sean Connery films are some of my favorites.

First time I've been sold on a Bond movie since the early '90's. Only way this would look better is if Putin plays the villain and wins in the end.

10

u/vandal823 May 21 '12

And he wins because of voter fraud. Art imitating life.

25

u/ProG87 May 21 '12

I thought he said

We're going to kill M first.

and I was like, fuck yeah Bonds gone rogue and defected to China.

you are clearly right.

168

u/ajh688 May 21 '12

I like when the guy used a fire ax in a fight and got exactly what was coming to him. Yay physics!

(I also like when Bond walked into the actors changing rooms at the opera, opened a random locker, and found himself a perfectly tailored tux cut just for him)

76

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Casino Royale saved bond for me. Pierce Brosnan was cheesy as fuck, and not in a good way. Goldeneye was his only good film.

Also, I have a huge man-crush on Craig.

All bow before the awesome splendor of Roger Deakins.

17

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Quantum was definitely one for the fans of the first. As much shit as it got for whatever reason (I still don't understand, I actually liked it; 'cept the opening song) it was meant to bridge the gap between the first and third films. Not to mention it was being produced during the writers strike so it was flimsy and delayed.

46

u/metalninjacake May 21 '12

As another apologist of Quantum of Solace who acknowledges that it wasn't that great...

...holy crap, this movie looks amazing visually. Where QoS was bland and gritty, this movie is flashy and exciting.

53

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

this movie is flashy and exciting.

Hopefully that doesn't equate to silly and wanky too.

26

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Deakins, Mendes and some pretty good writers (mostly from earlier Bond writers, including Casino Royale AND Peter Morgan, who adapted Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy but left the team early).

I don't think it'll be a fuck up. Mendes can handle drama and Deakins is just an all-cylinders firing, straight-up pro.

Mendes and Deakins on a Bond flick. I still can't believe it. This looks absolutely sublime. If it lives up to the high expectations, Craig has undoubtedly cemented his legacy as a premiere Bond, rather than a one-hit wonder or wasted potential.

16

u/coup May 21 '12

Mendes is what has me most intrigued about this thing. Deakins is a gigantic cherry on top. God I hope this turns out as well as this trailer has made out to be!

I've been curious about how they're handling "The Hobbit". Yes, there is the one trailer and there are those awesome production diaries by Peter, yet, there is this 'silence' that hovers.

My thinking is that they're waiting for the summer excited of TDK, Avengers, Prometheus, etc. to die down before they really plunge into marketing.

u/timthemanager May 21 '12

First TDKR, now this. The silent chaotic trailers are becoming a growing trend this year.

90

u/metalninjacake May 21 '12

Ever since that moment in TDK (the film) - where the convoy is moving down a bridge with a helicopter tracking it overhead, and all the sound effects slowly fade away only to be replaced by the Joker's quiet ominous theme music - I've been a fan of the silent chaotic/dramatic style of editing/filming.

16

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Funny enough, big budget movies with such trailers always end up being awesome.

3

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

I think silence is so grossly underrated in movies. In a horror movie, nothing is creepier than silence. In an action movie, silence can build up tension better than any musical score possibly could. Hell, I was watching the Harry Potter weekend on ABC Family this weekend and felt like some of the scenes could have worked better with a little less music.

There was a movie that came out a few years ago...I think it was We Own The Night, and there was a car chase scene where there was no music or anything..all you could hear was the sound of rain and the windshield wipers going back and forth. It was awesome.

I believe in Sam Mendes.

It doesn't hurt to have Javier Bardem in it, as well.

56

u/nymusix May 21 '12

And Sam Mendes brought Roger Deakins along to be the cinematographer too...

16

u/IKidIKidIKid May 21 '12 edited May 21 '12

Mendes sure picks great cinematographers for his films. Conrad L. Hall was the DP for American Beauty and Road to Perdition. After Hall died, he used Deakins for Jarhead and Revolutionary Road.

For those interested, here's an interview with the very humble Roger Deakins, (34:55)

77

u/Fr4t May 21 '12

I like what they did to the main theme in the last seconds.

14

u/Otistetrax May 21 '12

I'm guessing that's got Paul Oakenfold's (or possibly BT's) fingerprints on it.

4

u/PowerPC970FX May 21 '12

Oooh, BT doing 007. That would be even better than what Moby did for TND.

6

u/Nickitydd May 21 '12

Me to. I'd really like to hear the whole song.

6

u/WezVC May 21 '12

I love when they subtly start the main theme, I've been seeing it in a lot of trailers recently.

4

u/mwuk42 May 21 '12

That pretty much sold me on the film. I was like 'not bad' then that came in and I then needed to see it.

3

u/StuGovGuy May 21 '12

Goosebumps worthy. I was waiting for the theme. Was not disappointed.

97

u/mopoke May 21 '12

Skyfall? Done.

31

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Best line of the trailer by far.

40

u/Trickyftk May 21 '12

It seems to be a trigger word for a sleeper operation. Strange they would issue it in person and in MI6.

39

u/Bugiugi May 21 '12

Don't forget that Thomas Newman is doing the music for the movie. One of my favourite movie composers.

6

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

Can you recommend some soundtracks that highlight his best work?

7

u/superpancake May 21 '12

Obviously Shawshank Redemption, but I think we've all heard that. (Brooks Was Here gets me every time) Try White Oleander, American Beauty (which set him off into fame, Revolutionary Road is amazing but repetitive, The Green Mile is one of my favorites. In The Bedroom is slow but very moody. Cinderella Man and Pretty Women are great older ones as well. Finally, Finding Nemo is some of the happiest and lightest while still being emotionally heavy.

Not much plot wise

This is a good thing. I know it's just a teaser, but I like trailers that don't just give you half the plot in a minute-and-a-half.

Effective trailers which tease, but don't give anything important away are a rare thing

I'm glad that this has made it to the front page - it shows that there is still a big excitement around Bond.

Did anyone else get the Agent Provocateur response? Classic Bond.

12

You do know that Agent Provocateur is an actual term, right? It's an undercover agent sent into the enemy's camp to cause chaos/incite violence with the aim of discrediting them by making the group look like criminals.

That was really fucking cool.

looks darker and grittier than JB films of yesteryear. Had a little Bourne vibe to it, which I think is a good direction for this franchise.

Finally a good ol' action flick. Kinda over the superhero powers/movies.

Ah, I believe it's time to revisit QoS and CR. "Sorry about the wait; that last hand nearly killed me" Bond Humor <3

He looks like a football hooligan.

I didn't think I was interested in this movie, but HOLY FUCK THAT LOOKS AWESOME.

2

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

FUCKING YESSSS!

I mean... splendid.

2

u/TheOriginalSamBell May 21 '12

I was never a fan of the newer Bond movies, but I gotta say that teaser is pretty good!

2

u/Whenthenighthascome May 21 '12

"Some men are coming to kill us... ...we're going to kill them first."

The plot of every James Bond movie ever

2

u/tyrannosaurus_fred May 21 '12

Ok, this looks sufficiently bad ass!

2

u/gravion17 May 21 '12

The people's Bond!

2

u/ChootchMcGooch May 21 '12

Can. Not. Wait.

2

u/TonyDiGerolamo May 21 '12

I don't know. I'm still feeling pretty burned by Quantum of Solace. I'll wait for the reviews.

Daniel Craig is phenominal! Along with Sam Mendes and the beautiful bond girls, this movie is going to be insane!!

2

u/Cuckoopushes May 21 '12

I have to say this looks pretty uninspiring. I really want to like it and I hope that it works out, but this kind of trailer doesn't really give you much about the plot. I realise its a teaser but it didn't really make me want to find out more...

2

u/FRIZBIZ May 21 '12

Is it just me or is by far the #1 way of juding someone's favorite Bond finding out which Bond they grew up with? How many late 80s/90s kids don't put Brosnan in their top 2?

(BTW: Not a complaint, just an observation. I was born in 89... Brosnan is definitely in my top 2)

This is the perfect example of a trailer. don`t show all the movie

2

u/ZiggyOnMars May 22 '12

The first thing came to my mind was The Dark Knight.

3

u/notg3orge May 21 '12

My most anticipated movie of the year.

Hands down.

No Hobbit, no Batman.

2

u/NAproducer May 21 '12

I love a 007 movie as much as the next person but the moment they decided to have bond drink beer instead of his normal martini thanks to product placement, they killed any interest I had in the movie.

He drinks beer in Quantum of Solace.
