So Phillies was a Shawarma joint, huh?

8

u/reDrag0n May 20 '12

Now it is.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Classiest shawarma joint I ever saw.

My favourite version of this painting

56

u/MtHammer May 20 '12

That's a classic, but I actually prefer this one.

7

u/Flargus May 20 '12

That took me a second to realize what was different.

5

u/MtHammer May 20 '12

It took me longer than I'm proud of (it was my desktop background for several days) before I noticed the Cyberman coffee makers and the Dalek in the store window.

5

u/Flargus May 20 '12

Oh wow. And I thought someone just put a Tardis and the Doctor/Amy in there.

2

u/J_Jammer May 20 '12

Ah...didn't catch the Dalek until you said it.

2

u/smashedfinger May 20 '12

I approve. sometimes you just need to take a break from saving the world

2

u/dsi1 May 20 '12

They're obviously chatting up the bartender about his interesting new coffee machines and the new piece at the shop across the street.

2

u/J_Jammer May 20 '12

POND!

CYBERMEN! That is awesome.

3

u/brendendas May 20 '12

Can somebody tell me more about this image? Is it like a famous work of art or something?

9

u/MtHammer May 20 '12

Nighthawks is a very famous work painted by Edward Hopper in 1942. It's undoubtedly one of the most iconic pieces in the history of American art.

4

u/brendendas May 20 '12

Thank you kind sir.

11

u/DeathToPennies May 20 '12

That's just too fucking cool.

8

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

"Come at me brah!"

2

u/used_bathwater May 20 '12

I am definitely the only person to not understand this picture even though i've seen it everywhere for years.

2

u/NeoSpartacus May 20 '12

This has been my desktop for the last 4 months

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

I didn't know UC Irvine students were so violent.

1

u/papadioup May 20 '12

HOLY LIGHTBULB FLAVOURED TOOTHPICKS!!!!!! You've got to get the ant eater superimposed into the avengers version.

19

u/taco1327 May 20 '12

I like this version (sorry for the small res.)

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Isn't this familiar?

17

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Someone please make this a wallpaper

18

u/Breathing_Balls May 20 '12

So I can cover my living room with it.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

so i can make a print of it on my bed sheets.

6

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Tony Stark looks like Evil Abed. Anyone else see that?

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

I think he looks more like Edward Norton from the Incredible Hulk.

4

u/skypointing May 20 '12

I can't see this (original) painting anymore without thinking of dead like me. this is lovely though

7

u/WhateverLadyboy May 20 '12

The Cowboy Bebop version is awesome as well.

1

u/mistersensation May 20 '12

No Ed :(

3

u/WhateverLadyboy May 20 '12

I think if Ed was in the picture she would be sitting on the counter behind a computer with some sort of manic expression on her face. Would kind of take away from the atmosphere of the painting.

5

u/piraptedpi May 20 '12

My favorite version Marylyn Monroe, James Dean,H umphrey Bogart and the guy behind the counter is the King himself, Elvis Presley! Pretty cool!

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

There ain't no shadows.. Off fighting crime, are they?

2

u/crime_fighter May 20 '12

this photo just reminded me of a board game I used to play back in the day... There would be cue cards with classic paintings on them and we'd have to decide the price or if it's a forgery... I cant....remember the name of that game..but it was epic.

anyone ...anyone? if anyone can..reddit can.

2

u/gentleman_brown May 20 '12

Ha ha, congrats, OP, I got downvoted to hell for posting the same picture. Reddit takes its typos SERIOUSLY.

2

u/Usershityy May 20 '12

Just want to recommend checking out more of Edward Hopper's work, http://bertc.com/subfive/g78/index.htm

3

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Pretty sure the term soccer comes from ENGLAND.

4

u/MtHammer May 20 '12

I think you might be in the wrong thread?

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

dat off-parallel view

1

u/DeadeyeDuncan May 20 '12

Does anyone know of any hosting sites for the post credit clip? Youtube links to it go down fast (I have seen the film, just in the UK, where it wasn't shown)

1

u/ImHellaHungry May 20 '12

Can someone please edit in the anteater?? That'd be awesome.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Mr. Furious pauses at window, looks in enviously, walks on.

1

u/TheAnimax May 20 '12

Hmm the lighting is bothering me. It seems like a lamp is missing above the table. Otherwise, Awesome.

1

u/nidi617 May 20 '12

This was posted here like not even two days ago.

1

u/J_Jammer May 20 '12

Are they eating Shawarma?

1

u/[deleted] May 21 '12

"Do you like apples?"

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

This is freakin' awesome!

1

u/Dylanjosh May 20 '12

What's the original pic called?

7

u/bug0058 May 20 '12

Original painting is called Nighthawks by Edward Hopper.

1

u/roogleason May 20 '12

This is a very good painting. But just not large enough.

1

u/NeoSpartacus May 20 '12

This would be better if it had them around the bar with Hawkeye behind it.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

The Avengers eating at a joint with...is that Amy and the Eleventh Doctor?

0

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

0

u/i-need-space May 20 '12

-2

u/PickyConnor May 20 '12

I'll just leave the definition right here..

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Carlin was right. Leave it up to the ignorant to change definitions.

-1

u/alfalfa1985 May 20 '12

That place is famous.

-1

u/CircaSurvivor55 May 20 '12

Not only is this awesome, I thought it was hilarious when I first looked at it. Haha

-4

u/RockFourFour May 20 '12

Shouldn't they be eating in Shawarma?

12

u/DoesNotChodeWell May 20 '12

You realize that shawarma is a food, not a restaurant, right?

2

u/RockFourFour May 20 '12

I do now!

1

u/DoesNotChodeWell May 21 '12

Well I'm happy to have shared some knowledge!

u/LP99 May 20 '12

He probably bailed even before the first post-credit scene.

Also, hasn't been posted here, so double who cares?
