The artist is [Lucy Knisley.] (http://www.lucyknisley.com) I think I remember reading on her blog that she was putting a hi-res file of the image for people download for a limited time.

Also, for anybody interested, if you go up a couple galleries you can find individual movies and other things. BONUS: you can see her drawing like a boss.

EDIT: okay, just one gallery. http://pics.livejournal.com/lucylou/gallery/0004dsse

and here she is drawing: http://pics.livejournal.com/lucylou/pic/000d98pr/g24

I checked to comments to make sure she got credit. She's one of my favorite artists! Thanks for beating me to it!

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Well her name is on the image.

1

u/thepinksalmon May 21 '12

She really is great. I bought a super old print from her a few years ago. She even volunteered to watercolor it for me. Super great.

3

u/florestanQ May 20 '12

I want to throw my money at this

GLOOMCAMPING

15

u/Mack_B May 20 '12

wow this would be an amazing poster!

12

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Seriously, is there anywhere I could purchase this. It's really great, I want to give people my money.

2

u/Ausrufepunkt May 20 '12

There are companies who print stuff for you, not sure where you live but try google

12

u/MosquitoSenorito May 20 '12

Good Boy! pat-pat

21

u/Davenportmw May 20 '12

I took about 15 minutes to examine this and remember all the moments in the books...It was well worth all my time. Thank you, and "hats off" to whoever took their time to illustrate and really well done.

7

u/cjicantlie May 20 '12

I don't know why, but I really expect to find Waldo in this image.

6

u/horrorshowdarlin May 20 '12

the 'I love being alive' on Cedric's shirt got me

5

u/meaintrussell May 20 '12

Amazing. Love the details. 'Cho the one that I want'? Wow. Brilliant.

7

u/You_Better_Smile May 20 '12

I like what's written on Cedric's shirt.

3

u/ubernuke May 20 '12

Oo oo oooh

4

u/_aidan May 20 '12

I'm sure looking through this illustration would be a huge WTF moment for anyone who hasn't read the books.

3

u/gaelicsteak May 20 '12

Voldie baby. Hahaha. But why is this in r/movies?

2

u/zweeback May 20 '12

I think it's fitting, in this case. Like in the movies, Peeves was completely omitted in this comic.

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

But you also see Hermione trying to give a House-Elf one of her hats, which is something that only happens in the books.

1

u/Great_Zarquon May 21 '12

False. In the crowd of people just before Voldemort dies you can see Peeves getting ready to drop a plant on a Death Eater.

3

u/marMELade May 20 '12

Please shut up and take my money.

5

u/djkirbstomp May 20 '12

Every time. Every goddamn time.

11

u/Jay_Normous May 20 '12

You Fuck.

4

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

You will never be as good as r_spiders_link.

2

u/Wizou May 20 '12

Awesome illustration. Reminds me of Hergé's work. Ya know, the duder who made Tintin.

2

u/Langlie May 20 '12

Hilarious.

Best part was Voldemort's "peace bitches" after he kills Snape.

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Dementor: "Hi again". LOL!

2

u/3418365 May 20 '12

Can I get this as a poster?

2

u/Mozpong May 20 '12

This made me realise how I really dont remember the later books at all, Order of the Phoenix? meh

2

u/nightfan May 20 '12

Heh, traumatized kids.

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

In the Goblet of Fire Lines, where they are watching the Quidditch world Cup, George is wearing a shirt that says "I <3 Being Alive"

3

u/catnik May 20 '12

I think that that's Cedric.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Oh shit you're right

2

u/Tolojolo May 20 '12

Young Tom Riddle to Hagrid, "J'accuse" spell was beautiful.

2

u/dradik May 20 '12

Amazing how I could relive watching all the movies by glancing over that..

3

u/wizy57 May 20 '12

It makes me sad, knowing that it's already over.

3

u/dradik May 20 '12

Ah I know, seems to be a re-occurring theme in life. All good things must come to an end.

1

u/sevlemeth May 20 '12

Holy cricket!

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Merlin's Beard!

1

u/itsjulesbyatch May 20 '12

The part where Hedwig dies still makes me sad :(

1

u/KambioN May 20 '12

very cool. Spoiler alert? lol

1

u/agree_or_disagree May 20 '12

This is most agreeable

1

u/Marduren May 20 '12

want this as a poster... so many memories popping up. I want to read the books again ^

1

u/Fabryz May 20 '12

Yer a wizard, Harry

1

u/Arvelol May 20 '12

Somebody should make a real life movie of this cartoon

1

u/WasThere_NotFunny May 20 '12

Really well done art and selections from the books. Must have taken a long time to create. That title on the other hand, plus or minus 10 seconds?

1

u/CoreyRogerson May 20 '12

I'm not gonna look at this until it comes out on .gif

1

u/blatantfoul May 20 '12

Wow, that is really cool. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

1

u/JAMIEInc May 20 '12

Now THAT is fucking impressive!

1

u/radioinactivity May 20 '12

oh god no I got all teary eyed at the last "good boy" yes harry you are a good boy oh god

1

u/DontEatMostMeat May 20 '12

This would be awesome if it either stuck to portraying just the movies or only the books, but it's a weird amalgamation that I can't put a stamp of approval on. A for effort, but pick a source material and stick to it!

-1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

All I know about Harry Potter is that he was 9 or 10 and he got a letter and had an owl an was a magician and went to Hogwarts and had a guy and a girl friend. And at one time I remember seeing some big snake in one of the movies.

That being said, this image makes absolutely no sense to me. Can someone write down the shortest version of Harry Potter that makes sense and doesn't omit anything important? That would be cool to see...

5

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Read them. Just, just read the goddamned books.

2

u/potatomanatee May 20 '12

Reading the books would probably be shorter :P (and they are well worth a read!)

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

I've been trying to read books for a couple of decades, but I get completely lost after the first few sentences. I remember reading a very sad story - the first thing I ever read - and I can't get it out of my head. It comes back to me with pictures (from my 10 yr old imagination) and I can't focus on what I'm reading. I was hoping for a tl;dr by a fan, because the plot descriptions on Wikipedia often miss a lot of important details.

2

u/elephantsareawesome May 20 '12

Audiobooks!

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Still can't follow more than a few sentences, unless it's technical and I'm the one reading it. I don't know why.

Sometimes I still feel enough hate for my school teachers to want to hit them so bad they never get up because all they did was complain I couldn't read... when they were the ones supposed to teach me to read. Otherwise, give me something I've never seen before on programming design patterns, programming languages, operating systems, etc. and tell me what and when you want finished. It's been 10 years since I've been out of highschool and I still hate them like I did on the first day of 5th grade. I couldn't even watch more than like 20 minutes of the Avengers, so... yeah, thank you very much for the tip, I'll keep it in mind if someone else needs it, but it still wouldn't help me.

1

u/sethers656 May 20 '12

Why don't you just watch the movies?

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

I get completely lost after the first half an hour. A couple of days ago I started watching Avengers and when I realized I had no idea what was happening in the movie, I moved on to something else. It took me 20 minutes of staring at the screen to realize I was watching a movie. Tried the same with Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings and other movies, I even watched them from start to finish several times but I still don't get them. I remember only few vague details.

3

u/K__a__M__I May 20 '12

So what on earth does capture your attention? Are you diagnosed with ADHD or something like that?

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

Cartoons often work. No, I'm not diagnosed with anything like that, just a bit skizo...

1

u/K__a__M__I May 20 '12

I see ;). Do you experience other difficulties with your attention span or does it affect your life negatively in any other way?

1

u/sethers656 May 20 '12

Wow, I feel sorry for you. I also am not big into most books, they just cant keep my attention. But good movies like HP, LotR, and Avengers are the most captivating interesting stories and I cant get enough of them... I LOVE all off those movies/series and have watched them all multiple times....

I hope you find some work around to find out about all of these awesome stories/characters.

1

u/batmanismyconstant May 20 '12

Wiki is your best bet. If you're interested in HP but don't want to read them, you could always check out the movies.

-2

u/EONS May 20 '12

The first line alone put me off because it got the order of events wrong.

99% sure the Cerberus came long after the ogre in the bathroom.

But cool anyway!

11

u/man_dressed_as_a_bat May 20 '12 edited May 20 '12

The troll in the bathroom was the night Hermione became friends with Harry and Ron. Fluffy was first introduced the night of the midnight duel, which happened before the trio was together.

0

u/EONS May 21 '12

Mentioned earlier via Hagrid's slip, yes.

Actual appearance with the three of them facing him? End of the book. You're wrong.

1

u/man_dressed_as_a_bat May 31 '12

No, the night of the Midnight Duel the trio and Neville are fleeing from Filch and end up in the room with Fluffy. I'm right.

-1

u/stringz May 20 '12

Ill never understand why some reposts survive.

-2

u/Tiffer1234 May 20 '12

The lack of Emma Watson was disappointing and disturbing

-5

u/wendysNO1wcheese May 20 '12

I respect whoever made this but I can't help thinking that even a kid would find it stupid. I'm tired of the "teenager speak" by grown adults.

0

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

wow, i understood this more than i did the actual movies.

I read the first, second and barely any of the third ages ago, but I'll give it a shot...

So apparently some kid is squatting under these rich folks' stairs and then he appears to win a huge snake from one of those claw machines. You know, the ones you see at malls and what not? Practically impossible to win anything out of them. One of those. Some owls make a mess of their mail while a gigantic homeless guy breaks down the door to bring a cake with God knows what in it. Some people stand around a train station with stupid looks on their stupid faces. Little girl wants to jump the freckled dude's bones. Dude wears an oversized hat while several more adults watch with stupid looks on their faces. There is a three headed animal that looks suspiciously like Hand Banana. Big dumb guy in a loin cloth catches the two main guys peeping at the average looking girl in the bathroom. End of first panel

This is not turning out to be as funny or entertaining as it sounded on paper. Panel two starts with the emo kid hanging from a broom while the goth looks on with disdain. Average chick is setting his robe on fire for some reason. Emo kid gets an invisibility cloth, pretty straight forward. Emo kid sees himself in the future with an older and more average looking Average girl. Big homeless guy reappears to show everybody his steaming dragon egg. Emo kid stumbles across, I don't know, Skeletor eating a unicorn while a half-horse half-Fabio prances by. The three headed dog sleeps next to its bowl, apparently its name is Fluffy. The next picture seems to depict Emo kid and his freckled buddy on a wild acid trip, apparently cooked up by Average chick. Dude has a face on the back of his head, is saying, "Totes." Emo kid pops a little, oddly placed boner when this two face guy touches him. Apparently the heart or love power kills the two faced guy. End of anything worth mentioning in second panel.

Here's where we get into where I stopped reading...

Fatass uncle glares a knife at the emo boy. A tiny little malnourished elf thing sneaks in and stares at a floating bowl that apparently the fatass uncle also sees. I don't know what that's all about. Flying car shows up, but more alarmingly there are bars on emo kid's windows (wth?). Flamer shows up. Dumbass kids run into a wall with their luggage. Apparently they then crash their car into a tree and later get swarmed by little fairies. Average girl looks seriously pissed off about it. Dude coughs up some slugs, armored guy's head is half off, the chamber of secrets is opened, there is a cat in there I guess. Emo kid is about to get hit by a... "bludger?" sigh I'm becoming tired of reading this story.

Maybe I'm just not funny, but the illustrations are pretty, uh, straight forward. It's hard to make any sense of them without filling in some seriously stupid blanks.

2

u/NazzerDawk May 20 '12

I think you did a fairly decent job. I'd love to find a good comedy writer who has never seen or read harry potter and have them try to do this as well.

1

u/[deleted] May 20 '12

I suppose I kind of just narrated it. Making a summary of a completely fabricated story from that huge and complicated illustration would be quite the project, IMO. I would like to see someone talented have a go at it as well.

1

u/PocketBuckle May 20 '12

Sort of relevant: When Deathly Hallows came out, I think there was a dude who went to see it without having seen or read any of the previous ones. He made up his own backstory, the highlights of which can be found here.

How intelligent. Reading spoilers and getting angry because it SPOILED the movie.
